summary: as a plant store owner, you are bound to see a number of unique personalities enter through your doors. but there is one regular that has thoroughly charmed you, despite being unable to keep a plant alive.

note: i tried to do the write even if it's small thing and somehow this still came near 1k?? it didn't take long so i'm not complaining and i was able to post again quickly enough...

"hello, what would you like to buy today," you hold back a smile as you recognize the boy entering through the door.

sunlight streamed through the large bay windows, delicately caressing the greenery filling up the shop.

your family owned a nursery further in the countryside, but you had begged them to let you try and start a small outlet in the city with the smaller plant species.

city people deserved to take care of plants too!

the boy pouts at your words, "what, y/n, no personal greeting?"

you roll your eyes lightheartedly, "sorry, whatever may i assist you with today, dear jungwon?"

"much better," he beams at you, and it's like your whole day has been lit up.

you hum and continue tending to the plants near the register, waiting for jungwon to browse through your catalog and decide on his weekly plant.

you hear the man clear his throat as he browses though, "so, any plans for the weekend?"

this prompts a head tilt, a little confused. it's not like the two of you never speak, but the conversation is usually a lot more natural? he seems nervous.

and you don't want that of course, so you brush off the odd tone.

"uhhh, probably stay in to be honest... or visit the cat cafe that opened up."

jungwon whips around eyes alight, "that's what i was going to tell you about! i went there recently and it's the absolute best."

you smile at his excitement, incredibly endeared by his mannerisms.

"yeah?"

an idea strikes you, and you decide, why not? jungwon is cute, kind, and despite his utter inability to keep plants alive he seems to be very caring. all things you deeply admired, all things that prompted you to have a small crush on him.

so before he can respond, you continue, "show me around?"

jungwon freezes, his beautiful eyes widened as he stares at you. you stiffen, sighing.

"or not! nevermind, it was stupid--"

he interrupts you, tone gentle but firm, "I'd love to."

you laugh in joy, "that's great, now have you finally decided what plant you're going to murder this week?"

jungwon pouts at the admonition but nods, holding up an aloe vera. good, an easy one.

as you scan the item and pick out a care guide with some materials (customary to your store) you look back at your weekly ritual with endearment.

"so, what's this one's name?" you ask curiously. jungwon named every single one of his purchases, despite their inevitable fate ending up in a fertilizer graveyard.

he hums, considering.

"i'm thinking sunoo, after my friend."

this causes you to burst into laughter, slightly surprising jungwon but pleasing him all the same.

"are you still doing that?! last time, you named the pink princess philodendron heeseung and we know what happened to it..."

jungwon snickers, simultaneously heart warmed you remember your encounters with such detail and happy to name his plants after his annoying friends.

"yeah it's on purpose. he's been on thin ice lately, what with all his teasing," he trails off with a mumble and red face much to your curiosity.

teasing on what?

you don't press it though, sensing his embarrassment.

instead you write your number onto the receipt and wink at jungwon, laughing when he splutters.

"this--"

you look into jungwon's eyes, utterly enraptured, "well, how else are you going to contact me for the cat cafe?"

the word 'date' is barely held back.

jungwon takes 'sunoo' with him and as cute as the boy is you still mourn the plant in his arms.

your date-not-date ends up being planned for later on in the week due to issues in your scheduling, but you can't wait. you wait for every day to go by quicker.

just as you're about to pack up for the day, excited about tomorrow finally being your date, a blonde boy walks in.

it's a little late, but you find you're not bothered by his presence. he doesn't have an unreasonable or upsetting vibe.

"hello, how can i help you today?"

"oh!" the boy startles, "sorry for bothering so late, i was just walking by and realized this is the plant shop my friend's always talking about."

oh?

"is your friend a regular customer then? do you mind letting me know their name! i'll be sure to give them a discount for spreading the word next time they visit."

the blond smiles, "yeah, his name is jungwon."

and wasn't that a funny coincidence, you burst out laughing, imagining--

"wait, wait," you speak through giggles, continuing despite his perplexed expression, "are you sunoo?"

he raises a hand to his mouth, "yeah! how did you know!"

"i'm sure you know, but jungwon named his latest victim after you."

"victim...?" sunoo tilts his head, and you can definitely see how he's jungwon's friend considering they have the same endearing mannerisms.

"yeah, he comes in every week to try and finally succeed in taking care of a plant."

now sunoo's eyebrows shoot up, "but jungwon has the greenest thumbs I've ever seen... i don't think he could kill a plant if he tried."

you laugh, waiting for sunoo to join in, but then you realize it's not a joke.

"wait. for real?"

sunoo's smile has edged into something knowing and amused, realizing what the situation is.

"yeah... but. that's probably between you two to discuss! i'll come back later to buy something! bye bye!"

he rushed out the door before you can get a word in.

ah, jungwon, you adorable fool. you seriously had a lot to speak about tomorrow.
