Ngl, the parallels between Goncharov and Andrey vs. Katya and Sofia are so perfect

Like, Andrey saying that’s he’s scared of what he used to be, and Goncharov replying that he’ll never not be scared of who he, himself is, and Katya saying that Sofia doesn’t scare her when Sofia admits that she likes girls

And then AGAIN when Goncharov is smoking and says that he’s not scared of death when Andrey chides him for it, and then leaning on him.

The way I see it, not being afraid is being in love , and being afraid is denying that you’re in love- which is why both guys say that they’re afraid first, but unafraid later, and Sofia says “nothing can scare me anymore,” before she and Katya kiss for the first time

Andrey/Goncharov is better than Katya/Sofia because Andrey and Goncharov died knowing how much they loved each other while Sofia will spend the rest of her life thinking Katya abandoned her.
