he had been enjoying himself at the party for a few hours now. maybe this place wasn't so bad after all. keeping one of the key's he'd used earlier in the night, christopher stole-- well, no, he borrowed a bottle of tequila (it wasn't his favorite, but it was better than water) from behind a counter while no one was watching and made his way back up the stairs.
slipping into the room, accidentally leaving the door opened behind himself, he set the tequila bottle down on the nightstand next to the bed and let out a heavy sigh and unbuttoned his suit jacket. he needed a break, that was all. he'd go back to the party in a few minutes, after a few swallows, but right now he just needed some space to breath and relax.

with his back to the door, he began to smooth out the bed in the room so he could sit down on the cover when the sound of creaking floorboards cut through the muddled noise of the ball.
turning around quickly, he came face to face with someone pushing the door to his room open further. "sorry," he spoke up as he held up his hands to show he meant no harm, "i was just taking a breather but you probably need the room," he assumed they had someone with them, he assumed they were wanting to use the room for it's intended purposes, "i can-- i can just leave. i should just leave, head back downstairs and get back in there," he offered with an awkward laugh as he made no genuine effort to move.

"it really depends on the alcohol itself and the proof. liquor is going to be more flammable due to having a higher alcohol content and wine," christopher explained with a nod to the glass the other had just downed, "needs to be fairly warm for it to produce enough vapors to be flammable..." it took longer than it should have for him to stop and furrow his brows in response to the question the other had just asked. why did want to know if alcohol was highly flammable?

"you should be fine?" the man turned to face the shorter stranger more fully, his mask hiding the details of his face while still managing to highlight the confusion in his eyes. "right? you should be fine? should i be worried that you're asking about that?" he questioned with a weak, halfhearted laugh. he was only a human, after all; at a party, in a town, populated mostly by supernatural creatures that had all sorts of powers and abilities. oh, and he knew absolutely nobody here so maybe he should be worried about things being flammable.
there was no telling what could happen in a place like this.

Usually balls weren't really his thing, but sometimes Grey could be persuaded to attend the parties around town. He wasn't always too caught up in his work, the young dragon could cut loose. And that was exactly what he was trying to do. With the entire vibe of the ball being hedonism, debauchery and a good time, it surely wouldn't be that hard to get into the spirit of things.
After snatching a glass of the first thing that passed him on a tray, Greyson practically downed the entire glass of wine, peering at it through his dragon mask. Perhaps the choice of mask was a little on the nose, but Grey wasn't overly adventurous with such things. "You know, now that I think about it, alcohol is highly flammable right?" The dragon mused as he frowned at the empty glass. Maybe he shouldn't mix wine and fire.

"no, it's fine. really." the human argued as he swung his feet over the edge of the bed so he could pull himself up to stand. despite originally wanting to take a breather for himself and be alone, he found himself gravitating towards the stranger; even going so far as to close off the space between them so he could gently place a hand on the other man's bicep, cupping over the muscle, to show that christopher wasn't telling him to leave. "if our roles were reversed i'd be a bit curious too; i'd want to know how shows up to the so called event of the year and almost immediately hides." he teased, himself mostly, with a soft smile.
"nerves?" he offered in defense of himself. "which is why i grabbed this... which, i'm not sure if i was allowed to take the whole bottle so let's just keep this between us." the man laughed weakly under his breath as he took a few steps back to pick up the handle of tequila; eyes cutting back over through his mask to glance at the stranger darkening his doorway. "i don't know anyone," christopher added on, unprompted, as something made him feel like he needed to at least try and a make a case for himself to the handsome stranger. "th-that's one of the reason's why i'm in here by myself, and why i'm in here in general. surprisingly the mask's don't help the whole feeling out of place thing..."
"sorry, i don't know why i'm dumping all of that on you. here," he twisted the cap of the bottle, breaking the seal, and took a swig of the tequila before smiling and holding it out for the stranger to drink from. "i'm making things awkward, the least i can do is offer you a drink."

although bayram's parents insisted that he attend the ball and that they'd be fine for a few hours, he had this nagging thought eating away at the back of his head to go check on them and make sure they were fine. sneaking out of the ballroom, the harpy made his way upstairs until he found his parents room. his mother scolded bayram, telling him she was fine and didn't need anything and he better not come back until the ball was over.
once he was sure they didn't need anything, the harpy finally left and headed back towards the ballroom. the hallway was mostly empty still, the evening had just started so people hadn't excused themselves upstairs to the various rooms made for this very occasion. except for one door that was cracked, although bayram knew he should mind his own business he couldn't help but peak in to see for himself.

it was a handsome guy who was sitting on the edge of the bed, just as he was about to turn around and leave the guy he stepped on a creaking floorboard and got the mans attention. "oh no no," he tried to assure the stranger, taking a step back. "i was heading back myself and saw your door open." he tried to explain. "i shouldn't have been snooping."

"no, really, i can go. i've been in here for far too long anyway." it was a lie but he was trying to be nice. it was funny, in a way; these two had separated themselves from the party and yet in that moment they still seemed to find themselves dancing through politeness and social niceties as they tried not to step on each other's toes.
taking a step forward, his lips settling into a neutral line, christopher let out a slight sigh as he placed his left hand on his hip and gestured back to the bed with his thumb. "you know I think we should share..." he was implying that they could more so share the room itself than the actual bed but now wasn't the time to worry himself with semantics.
"if we're in here together no one can really accuse us of slipping away from the festivities by ourselves to hide out, and we get to take a break from it all; eat, drink, and just relax for a minute-- plus i don't think it would be smart for me to drink that entire handle of tequila on my own. which is, really, just my way of saying i think you should stay..." he offered with a soft smile. "...and i'll stay with you..."

the banshee was having fun, somewhat at least and as much fun as a recluse can have at a social event. yet at some point in the night, too much was enough and he needed to retreat into the house. he grabbed one of the keys without thinking and just moved around until he was going up the stairs and finding the number that coordinated with it.
thankfully, he was already doing the best he could to blend in. that meant that no one was going to follow him up the stairs unless they were hungry and wanted the small plate of appetizers that he managed to bring with him. he didn't think that they would want actual food, since most seemed more worried about the bodies around them, so he was in the clear.

when he did open the door and managed to slip in, he noticed he wasn't alone. katriel sucked in a quick breath out of surprise. he almost closed his eyes in fear that they were undisposed.
finally, he opened them back up again when he realized that they were clothed. it seemed like this man just had the same idea that he did, escape to a place a little more quiet. "please don't leave on my account." he blurted that part out first. he would've felt terrible if he ended up kicking someone out of their room. "i was just looking for a quiet place to have a couple of snacks. i can find another room." before turning around though, he did want to be a gentleman. katriel noticed the bottle of tequila. "did you want some food?"

"right, you don't breathe fire." christopher repeated with a slow nod of his head. instead of taking that to mean the other doesn't breathe fire in his current state, the human assumed it meant he did expel fire... just not through his breath. with his brows still furrowed, he started imaging all the other ways the other could shoot out fire and for a minute longer than it should have lasted he imagined how dangerous it would be to sleep with someone like that; because, logically, in his mind if it wasn't his breath it was his *cum*, or something insane like that, so his mind was flooded with images and ideas of going down on the stranger and having to make grab a fire extinguisher to put out his clothes and the bed after the other finishes. "i need to get out more," christopher grumbled as he rubbed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose with a sigh.

"sorry, i just-- i can't keep up." he added on, explaining himself, with a soft laugh. "the more i learn about what's out there, the more questions i have. nothing really makes sense anymore." looking up at the other, the confusion and caution starts to fade from his features around the mask he was wearing to be replaced with a more relaxed, easy smile. "i feel like i'm annoying you. since you don't breathe fire and haven't had any problems in... two centuries, you said? can i grab you another drink?"
Grey listened, the dragon following along to the explanation...mostly. He understood chemical properties but more so when it came to baking. After all, that was his passion, his whole career considering the dragon owned the bakery in town. "Okay, makes sense." He agreed with an easily satisfied smile as he set the now empty glass aside on any spare surface he could see.
It took the dragon a moment to notice the other's sudden concerns before he offered up another smile behind his dragon mask. "Well considering I've been drinking alcohol of all kinds for two centuries and nothing's caught fire yet...in theory, sure!" He reassured casually, clearly unbothered by the thought. "I was more...talking out loud. I mean I don't actively breath fire." Not while human anyway. "And I'm sure I'm not the only fiery species here either."

the playfulness in how he spoke and the wink he'd tossed christopher's way already had the human relaxing into his company. he should have followed after him to try and help but as he took a step forward, the human found himself unable to move. nothing was stopping him. there was no spell keeping him in place; there was nothing impeding his movement or restraining him. he was simply mesmerized as he watched the other flit behind the bar and freeze the bartender. magic; or something along those lines.
christopher was fascinated with all of it, he wanted to learn as much about everything out there that he could... that was half the reason he made his way here to alexandria.
"hmm?" he hummed, that lazy southern drawl echoing in his voice as he came back to attention as the stranger joined him again and proudly displayed his prizes. "you either have incredible taste or you're just lucky. or maybe a bit of both." his lips pulled into a loose smirk as he nodded his approval at the two bottles the man had grabbed.

blinking, surprised to have his hand taken so quickly, christopher stumbled over his own feet but managed to catch himself as he fell into place; following along as the other pulled him through the party. "that's a good question... an' i might sound a bit crazy here, but i didn't actually consider how i'd introduce myself to people tonight." hell, he wasn't even really sure he planned on talking to anyone-- at least not this early on.
"i figured, since the whole point of the masks was to play around with anonimity, that no one would bother with names but you've got a point. i'm gonna want something to call out tonight-- i mean, something to call you tonight. or just in general. what do you think?" christopher poised the question as he looked over at the man with a playful glint in his eyes. "what do you reckon you want to call me? my name or... some kind of nickname; something else altogether?"
hearing the masked man agreeing to his proposal, the edges of the young kitsune’s lips curved up into a smirk, he wasn’t expecting it be that easy, he thought he would at least have to do a little convincing to get the man to go with him. “something stronger you say? a man after my own heart, leave it to me, handsome.” he shot the man a wink, before he was spinning on the heels of his feet and heading towards the bar. waiting until the bartenders were busy with other partygoers, he slipped behind the bar, using his power of molecular manipulation to freeze one of the bartenders whenever he got close, so he could move and grab two bottles of the priciest booze there, a bottle of bourbon and a bottle of vodka, because you know, choices. once he had the two bottles of booze secured under his arms, he unfroze the bartender and slid back out from behind the bar and made his way back towards his first conquest of the night. “will these do you?” he asked, holding the bottles up for the other to see, if there was one thing the kitsune knew, it was his alcohol and he knew these two bottles were expensive, probably saved for the people with big bucks. before he even gave the unknown person a chance to reply, he was tucking one of the bottles under his arm, taking the mans hand into his own and leading him to one of the rooms he had gotten for the night. “so handsome, you got a name? what am i going to call you for tonight?”

"i haven't been a religious man for a long time now but if this night somehow manages to never end i might have to change my stance and start believing again because that sounds like actual hell." he halfheartedly joked with a hint of a smirk pulling at the corner of his lips. part of him knew being out like this, being here, was good for him but at the same time he could have easily stayed at home without really missing out on anything. with the masks, and anonimity being the driving force of the night it's not like he was really meeting anyone new.
"don't worry, your secret is safe with me tuxedo mask." grabbing the handle from the dresser, christopher unscrewed the cap and dropped it onto the floor at his feet as he took a healthy swig of the tequila.
"that almost sounds poetic. i was hoping walking out of here was enough for people because if they asked i was just going to tell them to mind their own business... but something tells me people don't really do that around here." stepping forward, the man seemed to hesitate for a moment before finally stepping out of his own shoes as well and joining the other on the bed. "i'd say i don't usually get into bed with someone on the first date but that, uh... that isn't exactly true." he teased with a soft laugh and an easy smile as he settled onto the bed; making sure to leave plenty of space between them so it wouldn't feel as if he was trying to crowd the other. "to exploring each other and still being able to walk out of here," christopher teased as he took another sip from the bottle of tequila before holding it out for the other to take.

"it seems like the night is never going to end, so i don't think there's a time limit of how long you can spend in the rooms." for katriel, this did seem never ending. sadly, there was no light at the end of the tunnel until he was back home or at the cemetery in his solace. maybe that was why the joke seemed to have went over his head.
the idea wasn't a bad one. in fact, the banshee thought that it would keep people off of both of their backs and he decided to just go for it. "don't tell anyone i said this, but i like the way that you think." maybe the masks were helping him open up. katriel turned around to closed the door, locking it in the process so they wouldn't be bothered. then he walked over to the bed and set the tray down on the nightstand.
"and if anyone asks what we're doing alone, we can just say we've already used up so much of our energy exploring each other that we needed a break for food and drinks." who said he wasn't crafty? katriel smiled softly as he kicked his shoes off and climbed up on the bed, grabbing the tray again. "and i don't think i should eat all of this by myself if i actually want to have enough energy to walk out of here when all of this is over."

"do i though?" christopher challenged a slight playfulness to his tone as he let his head cant to the side a bit. "does it count as knowing you if all i have to work with is the fact you're charming, kind, and very handsome despite the fact i can't even see your face? it almost feels like you're the mystery masked man in some smutty romance novel here to seduce me." he teased as a blush began to spread under the rim of his mask, dusting over his cheeks. "not that i'm accusing you of trying to seduce me. i'm just, i don't know..." he laughed as he rubbed at the back of his neck and shook his head in amusement and disbelief. "i'm not usually like this, i promise. i'm just a bit out of my element."
"see, there you go being charming again." christopher tried to bite back the smirk as he watched the man take a sip from the bottle he'd stolen borrowed. "now that you mention it i was dancing a bit when i first got here, at least i was trying too. the music wasn't working for me, though. someone said it was a siren song, that it was supposed to make me feel good and basically lure me into the dance floor and enjoy the closeness of everyone being on top of each other... but all it did was give me a headache. i couldn't even get hypnotized right."

"this," he added on as he took another sip of the tequila after taking the bottle back, his eyes lingering on the man with him for a second longer than necessary as he looked up at him from behind his mask, "is nice though. so far."

bayram could hear his mother telling him to mind his own business and leave other people alone, he knew he should haven't been snooping around other people's rooms that were left unlocked but curiosity killed the cat. right? the harpy knew he should have just returned to the party by now but there was a part of him that was captivated by the stranger who seemed to like him, clinging to his bicep that bayram noticed he flexed to show off. the guy didn't seem to want him to leave, maybe even flirting with bayram who couldn't hold back the grin that began forming along the edge of his lips.
he could understand that, the town could be intimidating to someone who had just arrived. when bayram first moved down here five years ago, he brought his brothers and parents. what would he have done if he didn't have such a strong and supportive system to help him adjust? of course the harpy didn't know what this stranger was, but he must have been drawn to alexandria for a reason. "well, you know me now. that's a start, isn't it?" of course neither knew the others name but he seemed to be opening up to bayram quite easily. perhaps the masks helped ease those nerves that might normally be there?

"no, don't apologize." bayram had been a shoulder to cry on for many people, this was a role that seemed to come naturally to him. he didn't hesitate to take the bottle from the stranger and take a drink for himself, before offering it back to christopher. taking a step forward, he guided the other back to the bed so they could sit and relax. "i'd much rather have company like this than be down at the ball. the music isn't as good as the hosts think."

"i want that to be a joke but honestly? something tells me you aren't messing with me. should i be worried that i'm not surprised by that?" he questioned with mild amusement mixed with a hint of exasperation. being human, especially in a town like this, left him in a constant state of having to catch up and it felt as if he never would. "i appreciate the heads up. sounds like i will be avoiding the caves until i figure out what all i want to believe in." christopher mused.

"oh, uh, less of a nickname and more of a, uh," what? how was he supposed to explain that, since he didn't know the other's name, he was attempting to flirt by addressing him with the moniker of one of his favorite anime characters growing up because they were both a) handsome, b) in a suit with a mask, and c) charming. "placeholder?" christopher questioned with a weak laugh and furrowed brows. "until you tell me to call you something else, or until we abandon the whole masked mystery aspect of the night."
"--but i don't mind you calling me tequila, though i prefer whiskey. i've been called worse."
"sounds like alexandria has a small town vibe." christopher knew what that was like. even though the city he was from wasn't small, the locals were very small-town minded; everyone knew everyone's business, sometimes your neighbors knew what was going on in your life before you did; no one was a stranger; no one had any privacy. "i think i'm still in that safety net of being new enough that most people aren't paying me any attention, but i can wrinkle your suit up a bit for you if you'd like so they don't swarm you when we leave." he offered with a smirk lifting the right corner of his mouth.
"thanks," the human added on with a nod of his head as he reached forward to grab a piece of the fruit for himself and pop it into his mouth. "i've been on worst first dates." he joked with a sigh. "who knows, could do my reputation some good if people think i could land a guy like you. then again, i have no reputation around here. guess that's a blessing and a curse caused by hiding out in my garage for a month. this is actually my first time since moving here getting out and trying to meet people..."
"did you know that the caves at the edge of town are one of the portals into hell? i'm not trying to make you a believer, but just saying hell is closer than you think." which might've meant that there was also a portal to heaven nearby. the cupids and nephilims probably knew, but that wasn't something that he was going to get into the semantics of. Again, this was the first time that he actually didn't mind have to go out and socialize. Even without anyone knowing the other, he was worried someone would find out he stood the whole night home.
"now i have a nickname? i wish i could be as clever as you and give you one aside from tequila." that was really the only thing that he knew about him. especially seeing him take that swig.
"i've come to find out in just three months that people are never going to leave well enough alone. they see you walk out of here alone and with your suit all nicely pressed they'll hound you. you should roll around the bed or floor if that's not something you want to happen." katriel took one of the pieces of fresh fruit and cheese, popping both of them in his mouth and chewing them down. he leaned back on the bed and couldn't help but scoff, lightheartedly. "i promise not to tell anyone you're jumping into bed with me. rest assured since i don't know who you are anyway." they could take off the mask and end that, but the banshee thought that was the only reason making him talk so freely. "cheers." he took a quick, and small, sip from the bottle before handing it back with a piece of bread. "please eat something."

like avatar. taking a moment to think about it, comparing them to the benders from that show did seem to help him wrap his mind around... whatever the other's power was; whatever he was. "that... does help actually. a lot. i wish it was all that easy to compare too," he answered with a loose, almost bitter laugh and shake of his head. "unfortunately twilight didn't really cover the my boyfriend, ex now, cheated on me and was turned into a vampire and tried to rip my throat out and murder me on my birthday so now i know about vampires experience."
"definitely set me up for failure. vampires don't even look bedazzled in the sunlight."

letting out another sigh, christopher relaxed even more in the other's company. did he know what he was? no. did he care? not particularly. yeah, he wanted to learn everything he could because it was fascinating but he didn't want to be rude by outright asking what are you; plus, even though they were having a bit of a rocky start he was enjoying the other's company. he was handsome, seemed to have a good sense of humor, and was patient. what's not to like?
"okay, we're definitely going to get back to sirens and merepeople but before you wind up blowing my mind... let me get you another drink. me too." christopher laughed with a soft, warm smile working it's way back into his features as he leaned over the counter. "do you want another wine, or you mind if we go for something a bit stronger? i prefer whiskey... makes things easier to swallow." he teased.

"No." Grey repeated for clarification, frowning a little when the other seemed confused or concerned by the notion. He thought humans would prefer something not to breathe fire...didn't they? "Think of it more like fire manipulation, like....Avatar! Have you seen the fire benders in that show? That's kind of how it works." He explained, trying to paint a clearer visual although maybe it was just lost on humans in general.
The dragon shrugged, smile easy around his mask, not overly concerned with the other's worries. "I get it's a lot to take in, but you get used to it eventually. Took me ages to understand the difference between sirens and mercreatures. You know...I still don't really get it." He chuckled. "Sure, and you can get me water if you're really worried - I won't be offended."

walking through the town there was something that seemed to linger in the air around him, riding on the breeze and wrapping around him, that made alexandria feel nostalgic despite the fact christopher had only been here for three months. it was strangely calmer even though it was home to every kind of monster he thought had only existed in stories and more he had yet to learn about it. maybe it was the magic in the air or maybe christopher was adapting quicker than he was giving himself credit for. either way, it made him anxious.
"a what?" saved from his own swirling thoughts by the strangers voice, the mechanic looked over at him with confusion knit into the lines between his furrowed brows; in the downward curve of his lips. at least the stranger continued speaking without being prompted and ultimately repeated himself and his offer. he was rambling. it was cute. he was cute.
"oh, wow, are you sure? thank you?" wiping his hands on his shirt out of habit, usually they were covered in dirt and grease, christopher relaxed as he reached out to accept the pastry being offered to him; his lips curling back into the faintest hint of a smile as the rest of his features eased and softened. "hey, maybe they were trying to flirt with you. you know, giving you extra because they thought you were cute or something. i would have done the same thing if i were in their shoes," he admitted with a loose shrug of his shoulders before he unwrapped the croissant and took a bite. he definitely needed to come back here; the croissant was really good. "shit, where are my manners." tucking the pastry back into it's sleeved protection, the human unceremoniously tucked it into his left armpit to keep it from falling as he once again wiped his right hand off on his shirt before reaching out to offer it to the other. "i'm christopher, kinda new here. it's nice to meet you..."
Location; Outside The Cinnamon Dragon Open to; Anybody || @unveilstarters Note; Lucas has been around town for a while, so there's every chance he could already know your muse, he's generally friendly.

"Can I interest you in a croissant?" The question came as easily as the offered bag, one of the frankly unfairly good pastries already grasped in Lucas' other hand, flakes of pastry already stuck to his fingers in the best way. It was one of those few treats he allowed himself, but spotting the other half way through bringing it to his lips had at least encouraged the offer. "They gave me an extra or some reason, so I supposed it was only fair to share the goodwill?" There was an idle pause, before the need to keep talking won out. "Of course if it's not to your taste I could see about something else now I've made the off- Please stop me talking. I fear I've started rambling."
Hell, there was even genuine panic in his eyes for a moment. He'd been cooped up in his room for the better part of the last couple of days working on his most recent pet project and it wasn't until now that he registered just how long it had been since he actually spoke to another being.
