He remembered the first time you danced together. He remembered holding your waist, your hand on his shoulder, your right hand intertwining with his left one, your dress swaying with every moment. He remembered you stumbling over his feet in the beginning, awkward laughter escaping your lips and your flustered expression when he dipped you and leaned in close.
Over the years this dance was repeated except you got better at it. No longer were you stumbling and the awkward laughter became genuine and delightful giggling. But you always turned flustered when he leaned in close.
On your wedding day when dipped you during the dance, he had kissed you and that of course had made you even more flustered than normal. During your honeymoon he danced with you outside in the cottage garden. When you told him you were pregnant he had danced with you so gleefully. When your children had grown old enough they would sometimes interrupt in the middle of the dance much to his frustration.
Your dances would continue through the decades until the day you got too tired to get out of bed. Your weakened limbs didn’t have the energy to dance anymore and soon they would no longer move at all. When you had drawn your final breath he had broken down in sorrow and grief. Your children were grieving with him, but eventually managed to recover the strength to move on. He on the other hand could not, years later he still dances with your ghost, recalling the steps, the memories of you, the stumbling, the laughter and the romance. He knew that one day you would leave the living world but he could never let you go. Till death do you apart was only a temporary separation, eventually he would join you. But till then he would continue dancing his sentimental waltz.
