i think they didn't go to the same elementary school but they met at some chess tournament. i always thought knight's motivation was kinda childish so i imagine miles beat his ass at chess so he went like wait i need to be better than everyone even those who're older & have more experience than me to earn the approval i want :( and then the rook thing happened. imagine caring about the character named bronco. couldn't be me
