Mascot Costume - Tumblr Posts
hi i found a couple more photos of this specific Garfield costume at some other locations!!
there are also these images, which appear to be the same costume, but they look ever so slightly different from the one used in the special. take a look!
(this image is kinda broken on the site it's from but it did show up on google, so i was able to download it)
i wasn't able to find any of Odie though which is a shame :(
p.s. here're archives of the image sources as well as a couple other sites that have photos of this costume too
(wasn't able to snag a working archive of this one unfortunately) (also use a content blocker)
i was watching the 'Happy Birthday Garfield!' special and these clips of these old Garfield and Odie costumes are so funny they oughta be memes
i love the classic early 80s style these costumes use, they're very unique! to my knowledge this is the only time we've really seen these costumes used (unless there was something else i don't know about), and i really wonder where these things are today! are they in a warehouse somewhere or were they auctioned off? i need to know.......
(also Jim Davis celebrating his own character's birthday is one of the sweetest things ever)
1934: I mean, they don't seem TOO bad. Though the photo kinda makes it look like something animated, so maybe that softens the visual...?
1937: OH GOD DON'T FIX WHAT ISN'T BROKEN! THEIR FACES ARE MELTING AND I CAN'T TELL IF DONALD IS STARING INTO THE CAMERA OR INTO THE VOID HELP ME (Also, the man with the hat? His expression sums things up PERFECTLY)
1950 - 1960:
It's a definite improvement... sorta
NEVERMIND THEY LOOK LIKE THEY'RE ABOUT TO EAT THE KIDS
Uncanny valley at its finest, folks~!
Okay, not that bad! At least Mickey and Minnie don't look like they have face lacerations... but those eyes...
Conclusion: I was never crazy about mascot costumes.
"I wonder why they're making a horror movie with Steamboat Mickey."

Sometimes a god is the imploded personification of flesh trapped in a mascot costume. And often it's your friend.~
