lmao the druck tag is insufferable like. matteo is having a totally normal reaction to learning about trans people for the first time?? actually he’s being pretty great, going off to do research, not making rash decisions or making promises he cant keep?? but the backlash against every little detail is so fuckin hypocritical. as if any of you were just immediately researched and accepting, no questions asked. just walked out the womb knowing all the correct terminology and gender theory. cus i know i didn’t and I’m A Fuckin Trans Man Myself. matteo only accepted his sexuality like a couple weeks ago. this is all new territory. of course he has to think & consider. like, him dating a trans man obviously doesn’t change the fact that he’s gay, but it’s still an adjustment of perception, a concept to be processed. you actually think he wouldn’t need to think about where he stands for a sec? please. i’ve read the fanfics where he just accepted it off the bat and tho very nice, its also wildly unrealistic. and do i believe stories need to be realistic? no, write your fluff in worlds devoid of transphobia, i love that shit. but given that realism is drucks principle ethos of storytelling i would have been very disappointed if they’d just glossed over the messy, complicated detangling of life-long assumptions that comes with encountering trans people for the first time. we dont live in a pristine ideal world. druck has never sold itself as an escapist fantasy story, and expecting it to be one is measuring it by the wrong metric. i thought we were here because it was grounded, and wasn’t afraid to tell complicated stories of identity & experience? dont jump the gun on how druck has or will handle the subject, because i fully expect and welcome matteo saying something dumb before he gets it right, like everyone in the world does when introduced to some new shit. and if at the end of the series, you’re a trans person and you’re not satisfied with the rep, then cool! you’re entitled to feel however you want! but id advise against jumping the gun – who knows what’s coming! i could eat my words, it could end terribly offensively, sure, but as it stands now, matteos done nothing transphobic or whatever. so just wait until we have a full story before disavowing the whole thing as actually bad for the trans community somehow, because it didnt nail every detail perfectly or exactly how you specifically envisioned. meanwhile im going to enjoy the one fucking show on the planet where i have seen myself as a gay trans guy represented with detail and care. because the thing about this show is its not like any other show has even tried to do what its attempting with representation like this. there’s no plethora of other gay trans guy love stories to fallback on if this one isn’t ideologically pristine enough. so let’s all remember the media context it exists within & how revolutionary its existence is, regardless of the extremely minor storytelling beats & phrasing’s from clip to clip, that aren’t even that fuckin bad.
