This guy must have been the loneliest mf before, like Grius doesn't act like this and Gallica definitely doesn't it's just Stohl. Man raring for connection so hard he's doing the shotgun wedding version of best friends. He'd probably cry if protag friend-divorced him at this point.
I love how the Knight archetype has a really cheap heal skill you can't use in battle. My Brawler Stohl is begging Hulkenberg for a heal but nope too bad she's too busy focusing on the battle. What's that? Need heals? Then maybe he should have been more careful with his HP huh. She already topped him to 100% before battle, not her problem if he mismanaged.

In Metaphor one of the first things your fairy companion does is warn you it's racist in the city. Your protag's hick ass is still in "I'm a JRPG protagonist in the tutorial I don't know what a sword is" mode and she goes hey. Hey. It's gonna get real in there.
And it does! There's one side quest where you have to buy something and the seller goes "Yeah so the price is usually cheaper but I'm going to make it more expensive just for you. Hey don't be ungrateful, usually I don't sell to your kind at all."
There's an inn where if you talk to the staff they go "we're not racist but the customers don't want to see a certain kind of people around here, so unfortunately minorities need not apply. Please leave."
One of the most common dialogues you overhear from NPCs is wondering what the hell are you doing here, get away from them. There are many variations of this!
The most obvious moment is actually the first scene, where they're hanging a guy for stealing who's saying he's innocent and everyone's laughing it off, and your fairy goes "yeah nobody's going to listen to him he's a minority" so it's implied they just grabbed the closest one to pin the theft on.
By the end of the demo there's a point where the protagonist can be asked how he's holding up with all the racism. The very first option is "I hate this place".

Really hope protag never finds out the truth about the real world. "A world with no discrimination and war and everyone is treated equally" I'm sorry man that's not true...

So my guess is that the theme of Metaphor Refantazio is that fantasy can inspire change in the real world. That's why there's so much focus on the protagonist's fantasy book, a vision of utopia which will presumably inspire the protagonist to become elected king on a platform of equality.
Metaphor Refantazio itself is a work of fiction, and More's question in the beginning is basically "can works like this have an impact in the real world"?
The emphasis of the game centering on an election is like the game telling you that yes, democracy can lead to change. Which is interesting, since hasn't Japan's conservative party been the ruling one since the 50s? Then in a way the "fantasy" that is inspiring the player is that elections will change the status quo.
Will's village burned down. Strohl's village burned down. Burnt village backstory buddies. They can bond over the aftereffects of smoke inhalation.
Things I noticed from the launch trailer:
Girl with cool black and white cape with circles on it. Seems important, in both shots her face isn't shown (back is to camera, wearing helmet)
Strohl dramatically falling through the sky!
Weird lance thing Louise has, where blade reaches from one end of the lance and attaches at the other. There's a shot of Will holding it, and also of another character with a bracelet grabbing it (it looks all burnt up in this shot, so maybe a different weapon here?).
Thor SMT! Probably from one of the archetypes, maybe the same one that summons Jack Frost.
The most unrealistic part of Metaphor Refantazio is that nobody has called the protagonist a slur yet.
Just a normal amount of fantasy village razing, it's great bonding experience. They could kiss maybe idk.
So Will's gonna catch him right? Either through the skydive reach or Strohl's gonna float into his arms, right?
Yes yes Metaphor Refantazio is the baby of mainline SMT and Persona, it's Persona 6, it has a Metascore of 94, it's got a rec from Yoko Taro, whatever. Big deal.
The real question is whether or not it'll bring back crossdressing in the overworld.
"Sometimes it takes a real man to be best girl" but instead of a femboy it's just Strohl.

I like how Will has a range of responses from "uwu im just the kindest sweetest thing you've ever met" to "Fuck this shit I'm out". My headcanon is that he acts the former with people he's unfamiliar with, then turns to Gallica and goes "omg did you see what that bitch Louis did this time?"

The white part of the background makes a crown, but also Metaphor: ReFantazio text logo! Each parts are in the characters' respective colours!
