VOYAGE // 12-2-2014 // SELECTIONS FROM THE BOOK
For my thesis, to receive a BFA in illustration at PNCA, I set out to create a visual essay focused on the Voyager 1 interstellar mission. The journey was long and rigorous. It took three months to propose this project in the spring then 3 more months to execute this fall. Voyage evolved into my own visual remix of the Voyager’s history and experience. I wound up with a story that was more than just a love letter to the achievements of astronomy and space exploration. I realized a deeper story of distance, loneliness, curiosity, and wonder woven within the Voyager’s history and its existence. I found, for myself, a way in which I want to continue to tell stories through research and lyricism in my image making. Through written word, hand-type, image, research, and conceptualization I created this 48 page book and concluded that there is still so much more to tell - so many new ways for Voyage to take form. This experience has been tough, bittersweet, and incredible.
For now, let me share with you 8 of the 20 spreads that I had quite a bit of fun making. I will find a way to get Voyage into the hands of those who are interested in the experience. The poster will be on sale in the next couple of weeks as well as a pdf. version of the book. I also want to expand upon Voyage with more volumes, collaboration, and research. This could take the form of a story about Voyager 2, New Horizons, or a revisiting of the content in Voyage itself.
Thank you to everyone who supported me and helped this project grow. Thank you to those who came to the defense and laughed at my Space Jam jokes. Thank you to all of the support from the Illustration Department at PNCA. Thank you to Linda Kliewer for being the Queen of Thesis. A very special thank you to my peers who I defended with last week - especially my girls: Taylor Smith, Patience Tumblesome, Cate Andrews, Zoe Mcguire, and Sarah Hayes. Most of all, Thank you Meg Hunt for being the most amazing mentor in the world.
Keep a look out for what comes next in my work and with the Voyage project!

Hello, everyone.
I am so proud to be on the cover of The Scientist for their May issue: Chipping Away at HIV. Lisa Modica (AD) and I considered the progress being made in identifying HIV reservoirs in the body. We also focused on HIV vaccine progress. Overall, we wanted the image to evoke how scientists are working hard at figuring out how to target and eliminate HIV – and the accumulation of these efforts are in sight. Thank you for another fantastic collaboration AD Lisa Modica!

Hello everyone! Today is my birthday and to celebrate I have started a Patreon. If you love my illustrations, comics, and would like to support me; this would be an incredibly thoughtful and helpful way to do so.
Full transparency; things have been very difficult financially this year and I’m struggling to keep this whole art thing going. Whatever help I can get is so greatly appreciated so that I can keep telling stories and sharing my art with you. Thank you for sharing and considering! 🧡
