new oc alert!

eugene lawrence robinson, born to charles and eleanor robinson in 1944. he is the heir to robinson industries, a very successful oil business that was started in the mid 1920s by his father. charles is the only one that knows most of the money he made came from bootlegging illegal liquor. but robinson industries is an honest one now, and eugene would be the heir to it if anyone could find him.

he ran away at age fourteen. he didn’t want to be a businessman. he didn’t know what he wanted to be, but he knew he didn’t want to be stuck in an office and wearing a suit all day. he ran to chicago, figuring it was far enough from home that his parents wouldn’t think to look for him there. he started pickpocketing relatively early on and by the time he turned twenty, he was a pretty good thief. he’d started going by james walker around his fifteenth birthday, and he would often tell people to call him jay. he found that it made them trust him easier.

eugene had, unfortunately, found his calling. he could’ve had all the money he wanted with just a phone call home, but, in his opinion, stealing was more fun. by the time jay turned twenty three, he had a system going. he would pretend to be a journalist and interview people for magazines or newspapers or television, and then once they left their house, he would return to rob them. somehow, no one suspected the journalist they’d been interviewed by hours or days prior. in addition to theft, james was also a natural at forgery. he had thousands of business cards that he’d made over the years. all of them looked authentic.

james has yet to be caught. the people of chicago have yet to put together that they’re being robbed by the same journalist that’s interviewing them about their tomatoes or their children or their pets. james hopes to keep it that way.

while james is based in 1967, i have absolutely no issue moving him up the timeline to the modern day.

james has no experience in journalism aside from what he’s picked up over the years, both from interviewing people himself and shadowing other journalists under the pretense of an internship.
