a couple of additional portraits of luralaith & rithlar that i really liked!

β the knight of the waning gibbous wields a blade like no other. the weapon is a magnificent work of lethal art. the craftsmanship is superb and unparalleled. its intricate designs reflect the court of the lunar revel, and the knight himself.

day 1: race
gareth sorel (he/himself)
gareth is a human. i've seen discussion of people's first character being the one that ends up being their commander. that wasn't the case for me! gareth is one of the earliest characters i made. but he's the first character i made with being a commander in mind. when i first got into guild wars 2 i made a human character because i thought the humans of tyria would be the general everyman. (like many other fantasy settings.) so i thought humans would one to learn the game and lore. oh boy i was wrong! tyrian humans have a very rich lore! the first game focuses on them. so there's a whole legacy to humans in this world! so i ended up crash coursing myself on human lore while first plotting out gareth. it was a wild ride! to this day i'm team human, and i have quite a few of them on my roster.
the wyldcaller (he/himself; it/itself)
the wyldcaller is a sylvari. between my two (current!) commanders, the wyldcaller is the one that i made the most recently. as it turns out: the sylvari are great for learning the gw2 lore on! i love sylvari they very quickly became my favorite. so it only felt right to make a sylvari commander. after all: sylvari make up most of my roster.

day 2: profession
gareth sorel (he/himself)
in game: revenant; vindicator. lore: guardian; revenant. gareth is a bit of a multiclass between revenant and guardian. gareth was a guardian up until his death at the hands of balthasar. after dying, gareth effectively became an undead mist entity. his abilities as a revenant aren't what they could be. lacking any real training, gareth wields the mists more like guardian magic.
the wyldcaller (he/himself; it/itself)
in game: ranger; soulbeast. lore: ranger; soulbeast. the wyldcaller is a soulbeast in the truest sense. it has a strong affinity with the dream and dragonkind. the latter is something it was deeply averse to for a long time. saurians showed an affinity for it. so the wyldcaller and its pod sibling ended up with a few saurians between them. but it's not until path of fire that the wyldcaller learned there are soulbeasts: rangers with dedicated techniques to bonding with their animal companions in a unique way. the wyldcaller has since leaned into its affinity with dragonkind a little more. it's bonded with two skyscales and utilises them regularly.

day 3: pact
i developed a bias to the vigil pretty early on. to me, it's the most interesting of the three factions. and i find the founding members to be as fun as they are memorable. (and tragic! π« ) it's been interesting exploring the relationships each of my commanders has with the vigil and how they react to everything that happens over the years! (all three characters use he/him pronouns!)
