Okay so, I had an idea while scrolling through Pinterest. (Also I'm delulu) WHAT IF, Sherlock and William actually DO love each other, but just don't really show it or are, like, trying to hide it, due to the period typical homophobia. I mean, according to Google, Mtp is set in like, 18something and being gay was still considered a sin and since those times were very religious driven, it was seen as a crime in some countries/parts. So, maybe it is canon but just not shown due to the time the story is set in.
