No Day And Night Are Not In A Relationship - Tumblr Posts
So, I almost never work with OCs. I have loads from my 2015 Wattpad Era when I was young and inexperienced at writing in general. I've made a few more for the fun of it over the years, but they've all belonged to fandoms. They all had a narrative they were somehow attatched to. My first attempt at trying to make something entirely on my own flopped. I didn't try again for years.
Attempt number two was great! Two years ago I made a small set of characters and a pretty good world for them to live in. For the sake of keeping them to myself, let's call them the Spirit Gang. They consisted of about five-ish characters with a sixth that I didn't really like at the time. Around the same time, I had to write a short story for an assignment. I made a pair of characters that will henceforth be referred to as the Twins. The Spirit Gang and the Twins had nothing to do with each other and soon dropped from my mind within a year.
A few weeks ago, I grabbed a notebook that I hadn't used recently. Reading through it, I had an unfinished work about the Twins. It technically involved the Spirit Gang, as well as a very old OC of mine. And that's when I revamped the whole thing. I knocked a couple of weak characters out of the Spirit Gang and properly introduced the Twins into that world. The Twins got family, and the Spirit Gang got elaboration.
In the Spirit Gang, there are two characters. I originally wrote them to be very black and white, one, who I'll call Night, was a dark themed character who was soft and fluffy. Day, a light themed character, was meant to be a cold and heartless person.
When I began my rewrite, I needed to elaborate on how these two had a centuries long history of working by each other's sides. And as I was writing, I gave Day personality. I did not like Day as a person when I first made them. They were not a morally good person. They still aren't. But they aren't completely heartless. They care about Night more than anything.
All of this is to say, as I was writing Night and Day's past, I stopped for a full minute and thought "what the heck? This would never happen in canon" and made a move to delete it before I stopped again because, I AM the canon. Which is wild.
