This series is so much fun! Annie, the cat, is one of the main characters and the author does a great job of writing her in the cutest way possible.
It’s a long series and my library has most of them as e-books. I recommend these books if you’re looking for something that’s a quick read and a light cozy mystery.

Meow Means Murder - Jinty James (Norwegian Forest Cat Café Cozy Mysteries, book 2)
Synopsis
A gorgeous Norwegian Forest Cat, a cat café, a food critic, and … murder! The small town of Gold Leaf Valley is aflutter with a food critic’s arrival. His online column has made him famous in this part of Northern California, but not everyone is pleased he’s in town. When café owners Lauren Crenshaw and Annie, her silver-gray tabby, stumble across his body, what should they do? Investigate the crime themselves? Or … leave it to the police? Is Lauren under suspicion for delivering pastries to the dead man’s motel room? Or did his intern bump him off in order to gain a promotion? Lauren’s cousin Zoe is keen to help investigate the crime. But are there too many red herrings in this case to uncover the truth? Zoe is also busy turning knitting club into knitting/crochet club and teasing Lauren about her budding romance with attractive Detective Mitch Denman. Can the trio uncover the truth about the food critic’s death – before the killer strikes again? This is a fun, clean, cat cafe cozy mystery with female amateur sleuths – and a beautiful Norwegian Forest Cat!
My Thoughts
It didn’t take too long for Annie, the titular Norwegian Forest cat, to steal the show in this book. From showing customers to their seats, finding lost teddy bears, and even sniffing – or meowing – out murder, Annie is a cat of many talents.
And while she’s busy being adored and fawned upon by customers and her owners alike, Lauren and Zoe, the aforementioned owners, are puzzling out the mystery of the murdered food critic.
And honestly, the guy got what was coming to him. But I digress.
This book was fast paced in that it was fairly easy reading. Annie kept the flow going, tending to customers in the café in her own way, while Lauren puzzled out the mystery – while definitely not getting involved, and not crushing on the handsome detective in town.
But one thing that bothers me about this book is the relationship between Lauren and Zoe. They’re cousins, but Lauren tends to scold Zoe like a mother would a child. They’re both grown adults, but Lauren tends to scold Zoe for being herself – outspoken and straightforward. And that doesn’t quite sit right with me.
Despite that, I still find myself hooked on this series. I enjoy the twists and turns, and I definitely enjoy Annie’s contributions to the story!
With this mystery all wrapped up (and while I still say the murder victim was a scumbag), it’s onto the next one for our clever feline and her humans.
I’m on Book 5 of the series and Annie the cat is seriously my favourite character. The depictions of her personality are so cute!
I agree that the books are a bit formulaic but they’re quick reads and perfect for when I need something light and fun to read.

Whiskers and Warrants - Jinty James (Norwegian Forest Cat Cafe Cozy Mysteries, book 3)
Synopsis
Lauren and Zoe sign up for advanced latte art class. What they didn’t bargain on was … murder!
Cat café owner, Lauren Crenshaw, and her cousin, Zoe, attend their first advanced latte art class, excited to learn intricate designs. But when their world-famous instructor is murdered, they decide to investigate!
Annie, Lauren’s gorgeous Norwegian Forest Cat, helps in the sleuthing department as well.
Zoe is also busy crocheting a coffee cozy to sell online, and Lauren continues to knit her never-ending scarf.
While Lauren’s romance with Mitch, the police detective, blossoms, Zoe despairs of meeting ‘the right guy’.
But when Annie finds a clue in the café, everything is put on hold while the trio investigate the murder.
Who is the killer? One of the other students? The barista’s business partner? Or a mysterious vagrant that one of the students claim they saw?
This is a humorous, clean, cat cozy mystery with female amateur sleuths – and a gorgeous Norwegian Forest Cat!
My Thoughts
Another mystery, and another slow start. I’m starting to get the hang of the patterns of these books, and while I still can’t say I’m all that emotionally invested in Lauren or Zoe, I am very much so attached to their Norwegian Forest Cat, Annie.
While I find it takes too long to get to the murder, and some of the dialogue mildly daunting, what I do love is that these books are such easy reads. And sometimes, my brain just needs to fall into something that requires little to no mental energy. So far, this series is absolutely perfect for that.
What I lack in connection with the characters (Zoe drives me insane. All surface, no substance), I make up for in easy reading, and intriguing murder mysteries. It’s the mysteries themselves (and Annie, obviously), that will keep me coming to this series. And I’m more than okay with that.
I've been in a major reading slump the past few months (I'm assuming it's due to my grief). I keep starting new books, trying different genres, only to DNF them. I'm sticking with my recent comfort series, The Norwegian Forest Cat Café books. They're cozy mysteries, quick reads, the main characters not only run a café that's only open during office hours (so inconvenient!) but also live in an adjoining Victorian cottage (sign me up). Oh, and Annie the cat is my favourite character and the absolute cutest. Look at her! 😽
