Even though windows 10/11 says it can run on 4GB of ram, it's terrible to try to use. (sorry @windows11-official)

@linuxmint-official is a great starter distro and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the system

so, i've been using linux for less than a day, and honestly? i'm never going back to windows.

everything is so smooth! my gifs and videos load without any lagging or buffering! i can multitask and code while having a youtube video or anime on in the background! the people in my phone show up on the top right as discord notifications and it's so fun! everything runs as it should, and using my laptop is fun again. i used to have a lot of anxiety with windows as my previous laptop blue screen 4 separate times. so having everything smooth is a blessing.

even typing this now, it's not lagging. on windows the words would come up a few seconds after you hit the keys. here they're acting as they should! and i haven't tried steam yet but i hope that's a fun experience too.

for my low end 4GB ram laptop i definitely think this was needed. i'm kinda bonking my head over not doing it sooner. but i'm here now and i'm never going back. i'm now swearing loyalty to linux it seems. (but dw, i won't annoy people about switching.)

currently i'm running linux mint mate, but if i feel like i can get even more ram, i'll switch to xfce. for now mate is meeting all my standards and requirements

*clapping noises*

If I seemed to have been quieter the last few days, it's because my Windows PC crashed, and I couldn't get it recovered. So I gave up and switched to Linux. It took me a couple days to get the drivers working, but I think (hope) I'm up and running again!

Sorry for the troll post(s).

I was testing a theory: if you explain tech wrong, you will get corrected faster than if you just asked a question.

I also did this to learn more about Linux/UNIX/MacOS.

Sorry for wasting your time, but thanks for giving it.

Also, if this were a real Mac user, you guys would have scared them away from Linux, but I suppose that's probably fair.

Dear distro blogs,

MacOS is different from Linux mainly because it has a completely separate kernel. K? Whether or not the fundamentals of the OS are BASED OFF some obscure nonsense called Unux is irrelevant.

Sincerely, a MacOS user

The code for MacOS isnt based off of unix. It IS Unix. Specifically, its a mixture of the XNU kernel and a lot of code from FreeBSD, Which is a direct evolution of UNIX. So the way MacOS works is that the main OS is developed by apple, under the name Darwin. Darwin is constructed of 3 main components: The closed source drivers, the Closed Source GUI components, and the Open source Darwin bit, which encompasses literally everything else that computer needs to run. Darwin is a lil frankenstein made up of the XNU kernel and I/O kit, The networking stack and File system of FreeBSD, and some code by apple to make it co.patible with their custom ARM silicon.

Linux is also based off of the UNIX Kernel. It relies on the GNU coreutils to provide a way for the user to interface with the system, to state it simply.

So at the end of the day, your technically right. They aren't the same thing. But ignoring the fundamental design and history of the computers which run and control your daily life as simply "irrelevant" I believe is an extremely concerningly ignorant and frankly close-minded stance to take.

And also your just mad we put linux on the new macbooks lol eat shit anon trying to get me to monologue as an attempt for engagement.
