Percabeth Au Fic - Tumblr Posts
RAHHHHHHH
Like don't get me wrong the percabeth kiss is cute and all but an au where it doesn't happen. Where like maybe Percy is going to tell Annabeth about the Styx thing and then just sees her face covered in blue cupcake icing and decides right there that he can't do this. He can face Titans and monsters and be the kid of the prophecy but he can't ruin this friendship. He doesn't know if she feels the same, he doesn't know if everything over the years has been pure desperation because Percy was supposed to die, he doesn't know if she'll want to kiss him the same way he does, he doesn't know if she'll say yes only to regret it later because 'Percy, I think it's better if we just stay friends' and it will become oh so awkward he doesn't know okay?
So he smiles at her and tells her 'Nothing Wisegirl' when she asks him to tell her what he was going to say unlike in canon. He smiles, teases her about the cupcake and says he's going to head to bed. Annabeth is beyond confused. Because she thought they were going to- weren't they about to-
In the end she lets it go. She's happy being his friend of course, nothing will change that they love each other. Besties for life and beyond. But she realises it might be another one of those things the war took away from them. She lets it go.
And Percy? Percy pines?
Imagine how much more angstier the SON will get, the only memory he has is of this blonde fierce girl, for who his chest aches a little bit. He thinks she might be his girlfriend, and he tells Frank and Hazel as such. He rejects Reyna because he's staying loyal to his gorgeous girlfriend thank you very much. Imagine on Annabeth's end? Just ten times more angstier because they were supposed to have time. Dammit. She's a little more hostile when Piper asks who Percy is to her. She doesn't know. How does she even begin to explain that?
Come MOA and the Argo ll comes to New Rome. Percy's staring into the eyes of the girl who's the one for him and he can't tell her that, because his best friend is judo flipping him and crying How dare you Seaweed Brain? How dare you? And he laughs when she pulls him up, hugging her hard enough that her toes lift off the ground. He teases her about growing short and she punches him on the arm. He wishes she had kissed him instead.
On the ship, Annabeth sneaks them into the stables. She recounts their trip when they were twelve and she's so tempted so tell him, as he laughs at the memory. Do you know I had a crush on you then? Do you know I love you now?
Come morning the entire Argo gang cracks jokes at their expense. Annabeth keeps insisting they're just friends. Percy is blushing, but he's always been shy about things like this. He used to blush so much when Beckendorf would let him into the forge. She just wishes he were blushing for her this time. He nods along with Annabeth also insisting Nothing happened guys, but the blush is still there. And Coach Hedge decides to keep them separate no matter what they say, and Percy's whole face is red at the satyr's implication.
When she tosses her dagger in the water he comes. He drowns the Romans with a vengeance, hands her dagger and bows because to him, she's a goddess after all. She takes it back with a mocking courtesy of her own. And she makes a joke about him being her knight in shining armour. Always he says, smiling like it's part of the joke. He doesn't say he means it. He doesn't think now of all the places is the time. Not with Hazel watching him pityingly.
When Annabeth has to go on the quest he argues. He screams and it's ugly. They're yelling at each other's faces like they did before the Manhattan Battle. And his stupid brain can't help but think how beautiful she looks when she's dangerous. Just like canon he wins that argument. He can't help but think of the advice his mom gave him. Always walk your date to the door. She's not his date, but this is the least he can do.
When she has to leave, really leave this time. To a place he can't follow her, he feels like he's fourteen again. Like he's watching her fall down that cliff and disappear all over again. He considers just for a moment telling her. Maybe she'll stay. Maybe she won't leave. But ultimately he sits back down on the chair in the cafe, watching her disappear. She needs to do this and he can't stop her from doing that. Just like she wouldn't stop him.
Annabeth is being pulled into the place where monsters are made. Their friends are screaming, and she knows it's inevitable what's going to happen. But suddenly her hand jerks. A tight grip on her wrist. She stares up at her best friend who's holding onto her and himself by his fingernails over the ledge. His face is scrunched up in pain at the effort, and judging by the angle of his wrist it's at least badly sprained. He makes Nico promise to meet them at the doors of death. She begs him to let her go, save himself. And this beautiful, selfless, reckless boy winks at her. Letting go of the lifeline that could have saved him.
Idiot she calls him. I love you she whispers as the wind rushes past. He doesn't hear her, as they plunge and plunge and plunge.
