sadly yes and that martyrdom ideology persisted for a hot minute into my teens even as my actual religious and political beliefs shifted raised in the South no specific denomination as my parents bounced between churches but Baptist and Wesleyan were the main ones I attended so yeah they were BIG on the whole 'onward Xtisn soldiers' thing cw religious trauma also does anyone else remember Flyleaf and that song “Carrie”? and how often the more Alt Xtian folks would spam it as a martyrdom anthem??
