"I can't."

He tilted his head, bringing our lips even closer together. "I shouldn't have come here."

I knew why he acted the way he did when Plague took over. He was protecting me, attempting to stop her from using our love for each other to hurt me, and himself. If you push everyone away they can't be used against you and your attachment to them can't be used as some sick punishment. Knowing didn't stop it from breaking my heart, though.

He had once told me he was sorry if he'd ever hurt me, how he didn't know any other way. But he did. He had proved it to me for ten years.

"But you did," I replied with a relieved smile, just before his lips covered mine.
