Reblog To Save A Writer's Life - Tumblr Posts

some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

As an almost 30-something, I resonate with this so hard.

It took me until just about a year ago -in the throes of my divorce- to muster the guts to just say 'the hekk with it' and finally publish the fanfic ideas I'd held close to my chest for years. Over a decade, y'all.

And let me tell you... best. decision. ever. ❤️‍🔥

Not only has reading others' work improved my own skills, but it opened up a whole wide world of community that is literally GLOBAL! I've connected with writers I've loved from afar for so long, and am following their stories that have moved me, soul-deep. Getting glimpses into what inspire these people to write means so much to me and is so validating when I feel like I'm the only one who feels the struggles of creative blocks. And I'm talking writers of all ages: students, post grads, parents, grandparents-- writers from all kinds and creeds that create amazing works worthy of reading! No matter your family dynamic or vocation, I've seen firsthand there's always a place at the writer's desk to come back to and pick up where you left off.

The comments, notes, and reblogs I've received are all so nice and have blown me away-- and yet honestly to me, if even one person enjoys what I've put out there just means the world to me 🥰 But to know my age and marital status don't really matter here is the most freeing feeling. You can truly do anything if you have the heart for it. The things I create (barring the Internet doesn't completely explode) will long outlive me, so to me, it's never too late to create fanfic. There's no timeline in my life where it will not be appropriate, because my love for stories isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It will always be there, and so will others who engage with it🥰🥰🥰🥰

I've been in a flurry rush of busyness lately and have not been as active as in months past, but my love for this site and the act of writing lives on... And craves more downtime in the fall to pick things back up again! 🍂🍄

Oops I made a tedtalk. If you made it this far, enjoy a cookie 🍪 Love yall~

I hope this doesn't come off offensive but I saw you were 30 and as someone who is 23 and worried I may have to give up fanfiction one day it made me less anxious. I love your writing!

Hi there! This is not offense at all, anon. I used to have the same worries at 23. I was afraid I'd have to give up my hobbies once I 'grew up' and left college. I never wanted to live the 'milestone' life tbh - I'm a childfree woman, marriage doesn't interest me, and I work so I can supply money for my hobbies. So I've always felt out of place in most societal situations lol.

Nothing says that, once you're out in the full-time job world, you have to give anything up. Watch animated shows forever! Collect that Funko pop! Draw your fan art and go to cons and read your fics.

Almost all of my mutuals on tumblr are 30+ year old people that write amazing fic while also living 'adult lives'. They have partners, they have jobs, they may even have children. One of my best friends from school legit still reads 400K fics and buys them 'bound' as real books on the shelves of the house she bought. You're going to still have naysayers in your life who think it is 'childish' or weird, but... that's life. Someone's always going to put you down for something you're passionate about, because misery loves company.

I promise you, my ass will be 50+ still reading (and probably writing) fanfiction. And I won't be the only one, because many 30-40 year olds on this website were the pioneers of the internet as kids and it isn't something that's going away anytime soon.

TL;DR: DO NOT FRET. AGEISM IS SILLY. READ/WRITE THOSE FANFICTIONS.
