Reigen and Reader
I just wanted to self promote my Reigen arataka x Reader platonic relationship a little. I did It for fun and it has about 13 chapters !!
Reigen x reader tag is for clout
The first 10chapters or so follow Reigen and YN and their journey through the ups and downs on being young with a sprinkle of trauma might I add
.I've also added a few OC's here and there for good measure to make the story a little bit more fun !!
Tbh I live around asia so my English might get a little wacky every now and then but any feed back helps !!
The story has a slight tonal shift once you enter the adulthood arc which is after chapter ten.
There is and hopefully will be a whole overarching plot that I hope i pan out the way I want.
(Also I just want to add that I constantly go back and edit all the chapters because of either grammatical errors or huge story po holes, so if you see a random change in word count I apologize in advance)

How YN meets Reigen in middle school
[Chapter one of chilli flakes !! I expanded YN's character and you can insert yourself into her as much you you please !!]

You can read the entire story that has 13 chapters here
silence.
Things were good, life was good.
At age 10 her mother got her first “special friend” YN was confused but accepted this new development.
He was a nice man, YN often struggled with language class, it didn't help that she wasn't fluent in it, only knowing a few numbers and greetings but he always took some time to help her.
YN was getting frustrated with the ever changing syllabus in her school, numbers kept getting bigger.
Words were getting longer and more complicated, everything kept changing.
It was only natural of her to accept her dad’s offer to live with him and go to a private school, so she took 4 days to conjure up a letter to break the news to her mother.
The letter wrote.
Dear mom, I love you and respect you but i want to live with dad more often NOT BECAUSE YOU BAD CUZ YOU GOOD !! but i feel like i wanna be with dad, school has been getting rough and its okay if you can't afford private school. I’ll only be gone for a short period and then I'll be back.
I promise to visit you during every holiday <3.
Her mother looked at the paper confused but it didn't bother her too much as they walked home.
Nothing was wrong, she even told her she was quite mature for YN’s age to be so genuine in the letter, nothing was wrong.
It was night when she realized her mistake
Don't say things to make mom mad
She remembers the plates, the plastic plates coming down on her as she screamed and shouted, yelling hysterics at her.
This was her fault, she made her mad.
She shouldn't have said such things. Nobody helped her, not even her neighbors.
She was at fault, she has done so much for her.
She is at fault for saying such things, nothing was wrong.
She should be happy that the plates were not fine china and were plastic, she would laugh at her own joke if the situation wasn't like this, but it was her fault.
h̸͙̜̏̓̏̔͛̿͆̏̑͝͝͝ę̷̯̞̲̖̼͋͑̿͑͛̎̓̎̑̓̅͠r̶̡̢̺̬͔̝͈̘͉̜̉̇̃͒͂͋͜͠ ̷̡̲́́̅̀̿͘͠͝f̷̮̪̱͓͕̗̙̝̬͖͍͛̌͐͒̈́̂̈́̾͘ą̵̧̡̯̟̜̜̤͍̩͚̖̬̙͙̔̅̇̕u̸̫̩̱̬͓̺̫̎̓͑͘l̸̡̤̹̟̆͆̈́̍̄̈́͜͠t̷̮͍̙̜̲̼̪̼͈̱̲͒̎͐͛̚͜
YN wailed wordlessly begging for forgiveness as her mother embraced her crying saying apologies that she immediately forgave.
The hug felt a little less warm than it used to be but she felt safe in her arms.

A new kid had joined the class, he introduced himself, it wasn't all that special but YN made a mental note to invite him for lunch if he was lonely but in the end, he was able to make new friends instantly with his amazing social skills.
Amazing might be a stretch it seemed like he got along with everyone with ease.
He was kinda cool, she guesses. She looked at the school clock reading 12:45, kids over the age of 11 go home later than usual.
Groaning in annoyance she caught the attention of a fellow student who was staring at her weirdly.
YN quickly paid attention to the teacher (but she failed) who was this kid anyways?
Judging her for getting bored in math class, rude.
Hearing the recess bell was like hearing angels sing a choir to her.
She reached over to her bag and opened her lunch box, ravishing her slice of toast with no crust that she took too much time making in the morning.
Before blessing her umami with the meal she was interrupted by a kid “Hi, I'm the new kid. What's your name?” Oh crap what's his name? she thought eternally.
Rob Araba? no, it's too cool.
Reito Araba ? no, it's too random.
Reigen Arataka? …...no it sounds wrong.
RUBEN ARASHI !! yea that sounded like it was his name.
“Uh…..names YN?”.
“Great, do you like AVAMOB by chance?” That was that old cartoon, right? Scratching her head, it took a while to process his words before it hit her
“WAIT YOU WATCH AVAMOB TOO?! HOW DID YOU KNOW” she said, flailing her arms violently. Her class gave her a quick annoyed glare, she quickly took the hint and lowered her voice, and flailed her arms less violently “how did you even know?”
Reigen placed his fingers to his chin grinning shitlessly “Heh well I guess you can call me a psychic”
What
The
Heck
THIS BOY COULD LIKE READ PEOPLE OR SOMETHING LIKE THE COOL MOVIES.
YN could not move, she in fact was melting and her classmates were witnessing the death of their fellow classmates.
All of them looked at Reigen for answers as YN slowly ascended from earth but he looked just as confused and shocked as they were.
The class monitor went yelling for a nurse to save the young girl while the young Reigen looked petrified that he killed a girl with his words“TEACHER YN IS MELTING HELLO WHAT DO WE DO”.
Well, his mom always did say he had a way with his words, but he never would have thought that it might kill a girl, let alone his first friend who liked AVAMOB.
-
The nurse's office was uneventful, she gave YN some headache patches and let her rest in the infirmary for the day.
She stared at the ceiling recalling how no one in the school liked the cartoons she liked, usually, it was either UltraMob or some kind of trending band that she wasn't all interested in but Reigen......
He was weirdly cool for liking Avamob and YN quickly decided that she wouldn't kill the boy after she helps him achieve world domination, was that maniacal of her? Maybe, but it's never too early to think about the future.
A gentle knock came from the door interrupting her thoughts.
It was Rebun Arashi.
“H-hey” he was shuffling his tiny feet towards her, his hands clasped against each other nervously while his right leg rubbed on his left leg nervously in anticipation for YN’s reaction.
Shaking his nerves away he walks towards the infirmary bed holding out some MnMs, YN tilted her head in confusion.
Was this a peace offering of some kind?
Regardless, the half-conscious girl accepted it with no fuss.
She decided something significant as she ascended to heaven with the candy giving her some strength since she wasn't able to eat lunch.
Ruben Arashi was the greatest guy she's ever been given the chance to know, she never expected a person could be so wonderful.
Oh, and Ruben was a psychic.
He knew her favorite snack was MnM's without guessing.
With that thought, YN quickly grasped her hands towards herself and took a deep breath “Ruben Arashi, would you do the honors of making me your apprentice?!” she said enthusiastically.
The younger boy stuttered backward “Hu-huh? I just w-wanted to give you some snacks after the class monitor carried you here and that's not my name”
The boy was sweating buckets at this point, flustered at the bold announcement yet intrigued.
YN flicked the hair out her face trying to look cool but she ended up with her spitting the sweaty locks out of her mouth
“How did you know I liked AvaMob?? AND LIKED MnMS?!” she moved closer into his personal space looking deep into his eyes, she was ready for him to take a step back but he stood still.
Ruben was so cool to her and if he was truly a psychic, she could become his apprentice and learn the ways of becoming a true psychic herself.
Maybe fly to ‘Ghibli Land’ as she called it.
She can finally be with Haku, her lover and run away.
While YN was fantasizing about her soon depart from Earth Reigen’s thoughts were racing in his mind, he had already given up this chunibyo dream of his becoming someone special with powers.
Wait, did YN want to be special? Did she think he was special?
Both tweens were in deep thought, the dense aura of their thoughts traveled around the school causing a shiver among their classmates.
The girl with bandages wrapped around her head, stood on the cheap lumpy mattress - fist in the air that made her look heroic like ‘SuperMob’ but only this time, she looked way cooler in the eyes of Reigen “RUBEN ARASHI YOU-”.
“Its Reigen, Reigen Arataka”.
She stared at him with annoyance after he interrupted her.
“Whatever Reiben Arataba" He sighs and whispers "Close enough" before YN continues "We shall work together as a team and I , YN LN shall work by your side as your loyal apprentice. Only if you want to” She said the last part rather softly, but before he could even give weight to her sudden outburst YN clasped her hands in his.
‘It's sweaty’ Reigen thought, maybe it was his hands.
Maybe they both had sweaty hands, Reigen internally thought he met his platonic soulmate.
They were gonna be sweat bros for life.
He felt captured by her aura, the optimistic attitude she has.
The way the sun illuminated her skin, acne and all.
Her words captured him like a lasso made out of takoyaki but only this time, it was an endless supply.
Words bubble up from his throat but never seem to pop out of his mouth.
“So what do you think about it, Reigen?” she was still holding his hands.
“I don't see why not” he said in the most cracked-up prepubescent boy voice but YN never noticed, she only smiled with glee and asked for his number.
Little did YN know that Reigen only knew she liked avamob from her Appa hair clips and everyone loves MnMs, but to YN it wasn't that simple.
She just met a very cool friend that she would be definitely meeting again.
The feeling of warmness inside her begins to grow with joy.

Reigen x Platonic!Reader

a/n: YN has trouble with her co-workers and goes to a seminar recommended by a friend.
YN decides to attend the weekend slot for the seminar.
(hEY HEY !! I thought about dipping my toes in tumbler just to self-promote my fic teehee because of the end of MPO and the fear of the fandom dying T^T Anyhow my fic has about 13 chapters which is about 80k words as of now. It is far from complete but also is complete? Well, the side arc is done but I marked it as complete because it can be seen as complete !! I think its worth checking out and uhm yeah !!)
Also this is chapter 12 of the fic, I just posted this chapter here because its less plot focused and more adult shaninigans.
Reigen’s presentation was not what YN expected, it was a sparkly Hello kitty-themed.
With dramatic music.
Was this why it was free?
“Number one the thing you need to do to increase productivity in a workplace filled with lazy slugs! A presentation by me” Mob dimes the light as his Shishou starts stating the sponsors for the presentation which makes YN tilt her head with disbelief at him.
The slideshow begins with a drawing of an otaku holding a body pillow that looks straight out of Wikipedia “This young lad has a problem with gaming and seems to be addicted which prevents him from doing work. What would you do?” Reigen stares at the audience which was a total of one since YN was the only one there.
He flamboyantly points at her “Ah YN! You want to answer?”
She turns around suddenly feeling like she was in class again “Me?”
“Yes, you! Now, what would you do?”
“Tell them to uh…..stop?”
Reigen stalks her chair for a moment then turns screaming “Wrong!”
“Confiscate the electro-”
“Once again you are mistaken mesmosele. Mob next slide”
The next slide is a gif of a grim-reaper taking a selfie with someone “You gotta show your enthusiasm to work, even if you feel like death!” Reigen signaled Mob to come near him “Mob, slap me”
“Shi-shishou what?”
“Nevermind” Reigen slams himself on the wall, YN thinks there's blood on the wall now “Always SHOW YOUR ENTHUSIASM” She gets up immediately and hands him a tissue to wipe his nose with, he takes it and grins “Do you agree with that?”
“Uhm? ye-”
“WR-WR-WRONG AGAIN!” He sounds like a wrestling moderator now.
“Shishou please sit down-”
“Never take shit from anyone!" He makes an 'X' sign with his hands "No matter what, show that you're the boss. As you saw just now, Mob didn't slap me because he takes himself seriously and knows his boundaries!” Mob just nods his head blushing.
He does a mini spin and there's now a disco ball? He throws around edible confetti which he strangely kept clarifying with her, she thinks it's probably from one of his sponsors because he is now shoving a bag of skittles in her hand.
YN thinks of how absurd this is yet, she finds some weird type of comfort.
Was she ever going to use this information?
Probably not.
Was it entertaining?
It might have been one of the best things she has ever seen in a while.
Even almost beating that one time she witnessed an old man cheat on his wife in the park, that was pure cinema - but this was pretty close to topping it.
-
YN stares at her paperwork and the old man “YN please you've got to do something about the elevator”
She takes in a breath and smiles, something she learned at the seminar “Yes Suki, I've already informed you that it's already fixed”
“It is not just that YN! It keeps making weird noises and-and I keep hearing this gentle whisper…IT'S FREAKING ME OUT! Do something about it!”
“That might be your hearing aid, even I can hear it”
“YOU CAN HEAR THE RINGING TOO?!”
“What's all this fuss about?”
Suki then berates the boss about the weird sounds along with some of the other employees, even Mika “Even you?”
“I dunno? I just saw people crowding the boss and wanted to join” This was the only time YN relates to Mika.
“Sir, I BEG OF YOU TO CHECK THE ELEVATOR FOR GHOST, EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT”
He turns to YN raising his non-existent brow, the boss was bald “Sir, I’ve already called maintenance, and it all fixed, the noise is probably from how old it is, we would have to use our entire funds to fix-”
“Mrs.LN meet me in my office”
Everyone stills.
YN just says a small yes in acknowledgment and pushes her hair back “Y-YN I'm so sorry I didn't mean to cause you so much trouble” YN knows there was no point taking it out on an old man and just nods and bites her tongue until it bleeds and proceeds to the room.
“Sir-”
“LN, what’s the problem?”
She pulls out her files “He’s complained about the elevator even though I told him that it's just the screws making the noises, I already called the company who fixed the elevator, and like I said before, they said it can't be fixed unless we do a full-”
“Whoa whoa, why so serious?” The boss chuckles nervously.
“Huh?”
“I just called you here so they all can shut up, want a mint?” YN accepts “They said they think it's haunted right? Its been a running trend in this stupid country”
“Yes, he says he hears whispers”
“So call an exorcist, it's cheaper anyways”
“You're serious?”
“Why would I not be, I'm always serious” He spins his chair “YN as assistant manager, you need to ensure everything is up and running, do I make myself clear”
The scissors on the desk look sharp enough to cut her neck.
“Crystal”
YN hates everything, stupid job.
Stupid people.
Stupid-
Cute puppy cat……She named him Sherman…
He’s been such a brat lately, he takes up the entire bed. Whenever YN moves him to his DIY bed she made from drifted shirts, he always ended up sleeping on her face which always gave her a rash in the morning.
YN watches a Youtube video on how to make a healthy cheap meal for Sherman, Tuna, and rice were fairly cheap and tasty. Though Sherman likes wasabi for….an unknown reason…but also enjoys the helping of daffodils.
She wonders if she could sell the creature for science.
“Sherman don't jump on the table- SHERMAN DON'T SCRATCH MY BAG AND RIP MY PAPERS!” The puppy-cat was already inside her bag, YN sighs in relief when the cat-dog walks away, her paper was still in its file.
The relief is cut short when he starts barking, YN runs to shut him up, animals weren't allowed “I swear to god if you don’t shut up I will starve you…..” She sees Sherman clawing on a flyer that she picked up.
It was Reigen’s flier.
Wait.
YN forgot that Reigne ran an exorcism company, she still thinks it's fake but calls him anyways when she flips the flyer with the payment - which was cheaper than the other exorcist she tried to find around the city.
Like really cheap.
So cheap it made her skeptical for a moment.
But it did say he was certified on the back at least, shouldn't that information be on the front instead of the back....
She dials the number “Spirits and such with consultations! I’m sorry but we’re about to close but you can call tomorrow!”
“Oh sorry, I’ll give the number a call tomorrow-”
She thinks Reigen might have coughed and burped from what she can assume is shock “Y-YN?! W-wait why are you calling this number, how did you get the number”
“I mean I got a flyer….you are an exorcist or something”
“Oh yeah,” She hears some shuffling “Completely forgot, wait you said, exorcist?”
“About that, apparently my office is having some issue with the elevator being haunted or something… even if I don't believe it ….I think it would be better if you checked it out, I checked your website and it said you're certified?”
“Of course, I'm certified” Reigen proudly says “Do you want to book an appointment?”
“I thought you were closing? I don't mind calling tomorrow”
“Nah it's fine, I have my pen out anyways. So what day and time”
-
YN meets Reigen at a train station, which was a bonus since Reigens stop was a few steps away from her workplace.
She spots him and waves him down “I wanted to say thanks again for helping me last minute”
“No worries, it is my job anyways”
“Speaking of, why is mob here? You babysitting him?”
“Morning Mrs.LN” “I’m actually working with Shishou”
“Wait….your working for him?” YN can’t even hide her shock, it is a little shocking for a high schooler to work with a grown man for exorcism. She wonders if she should just distance herself from the whole situation but realizes it's none of her business.
They enter the crowded train and YN is still experiencing some type of shock, was Reigen exploiting this kid? I mean she knows he would never, would he? “Mrs.LN your face is making a strange face. Are you hungry? Here have my onigiri”
YN didn't realize she was making a face that resembled a squashed cartoon character until she starred at her own reflections on the glass “O-oh, thank you Mob but I don't think eating on the train is allowed, maybe later”
“Of course! My brother Ritsu made these on his own, I tried some when he wasn't looking and it really is amazing” YN had to cover her eyes from how bright the boy was glowing.
“I actually was about to decline you, but free foo- I mean the way you described the food sounds good”
Mob swats away something with a cloud of green dust “..she…not…pig” Was all YN heard before Mob see’s her staring at him strangely the snaps his finger “Sorry sometimes I just talk to myself”
“I do that sometimes so don't worry” Reigen watches the interaction as he is squashed between two sumo wrestlers.
As they reach the building YN warns them about the unpleasant smell which they both dismiss at first saying they could handle it until they actually reached the building. YN thinks Mob is holding it pretty well, gagging a little.
Reigen on the other hand was full-on gagging, needing to lean on a nearby tree for stability.
YN hands the two a tissue that has been infused with peppermint knowing this might happen “Mrs. LN do you want my tissue? I think I can still stand the smell”
“No worries Mob, people who work here like me have gotten used to the smell” YN lightly reassures him.
“Question” Reigen asks raising a hand.
“Yes?”
“Do you still have your sense of smell after working here?”
A rude but reasonable question “I suffice, now here's the elevator”
They all enter the tiny box “Work doesn't start till nine-thirty and all the elderly people are already upstairs since they do taichi and come here early on a Thursday, so we have the whole thing to ourselves”
Mob inhales on the tissue more.
YN looks and him and feels sorry for making him tag along “Hey kid, I don't mind if you weren't here and I'm sure he won't mind”
“It's okay Mrs. LN I can handle it” she just nods at the boy and looks at Reigen “You said there was a ringing noise?”
“Yup, but its probably from the rust, since the elevator is so old”
“Hmm…I don't sense anything actually. There are no spirits”
Mob crouches and touches the floor “Actually Shishou I do feel something from the lower floor”
“-From this floor at least” Reigen saves himself, luckily YN did catch on “We should go downstairs”
“Well there are only two floors”
“No” Mob suddenly says seriously looking around “Mrs.LN, me and Shishou can handle it from here so you can step out”
“Wait am I that heavy, gosh I thought-” YN teases.
“N-no t-that's n-not w-w-w-” Mob was short-circuiting which had YN giggle in nostalgia.
He was saved by Reigen who stroked his hair gently “There there Mob, she knows what you mean. Would you explain it to her….and me” He whispered the last part.
“I can't tell how dangerous this will be since we're dealing with an older spirit. I don't want Mrs.LN to get hurt”
What on earth were the two going to do? “Hurt? I thought you were going to just exorcise a spirit”
“Oh he is definitely going to”
Mob nods his head “Yes, I sense something below. Something weak, as I said, it's an old spirit. If they feel like they're in danger they can be dangerous, it's like that time when Shishou and I went to a farm to exorcise another spirit” He explains like it's a fact.
When YN knows that it is clearly not “Listen, I think…I can be late let me text the boss that this might take some time. Seriously, guys, I know what you're doing here, the little thing that's going on. Don't have to lie to me to just ‘sell’ the act”
Reigen falters “Sell the act? You might be mistaken, there is no act being done. There is an actual spirit. Right Mob?”
“No seriously Reigen, I could not care less about how you're making money, I'm just saying you can relax, you guys are still getting paid, no need to get worked up over it”
“I am not worked up, you called us in for a job and you are disrespecting me. Mob, how far down is the spirit”
“S-Seven floors…down” He whispers suddenly feeling overwhelmed with the situation.
She senses Mobs discomfort and yields.
“My bad, I'm sorry I disrespected you like that” YN bows her head “I don't mind being late to work, I’ll watch your little exorcism, I don't mind getting roughed up”
Reigen places his hand around his neck “It's fine…You sure about it?”
“Positive, I might even be able to skip work if I get hurt so it's a win-win scenario for me”
Mob looks back at his shishou for approval which he nods at and gives him a smug face “Let's do this then”
YN decides to play along “So how are you going to do this, there are only two actual bottom floors in the building and you said six?”
Mob inspects the elevator “Yes, the remaining floors have been abandoned, which is probably where the spirit roams at”
“Okay….but how are we even going to go down the buttons don't even go that low”
Reigen has a shit-faced grin on his face when he sees the girl have a confused expression on her face “Watch and see”
“Please hold onto the railing Shishou and Mrs. YN” Reigen braces himself on the wall and looks at the confused YN expecting her to do the same “You heard the boy”
“What do you-” The girl lost her balance, the pressure of the elevator going down makes her fall to her knees, Reigen grabs one of her arms for stability which she accepts still on the floor as she clings on it for dear life.
It stops abruptly “We’re here, sorry for the bumpy ride”
How did he even? Must have been some wiring that she didn't know about.
The place smells like upstairs but ten times worse, it reminds YN of how she felt when she just joined the firm, she wraps the scarf she had in her bag around her mouth “God what is that damn smell, I'm going to pass out”
“Please don't faint Mrs.LN, I really didn't want to get you hurt”
“Don't worry your little face mobbu-Mob, sorry that slipped out”
“Reigen flips out his phone as a flashlight “He likes that name, he's even blushing right now let's move on, I think I saw a tail”
“Tail?!” YN shouts, a tail could mean an animal.
An animal living down here should be impossible.
Said animal would and will be dangerous.
“Shhh we don't want it to know that we’re here,” YN thinks back on her life and regrets not staying in the office “It's over there Shishou, it's strong but I’ll be able to handle it. You can just wait here” Mob then walks in a straight line forward, slowly disappearing as the light fades.
YN watches as Mob ventures deeper while Reigen just plays Candy Crush “Are you not going to go after him?”
“The kid says he can handle it, he can handle it, Plus he said this a relatively weak spirit and told me to just wait”
“There might be an animal there that might hurt him, do you not care?”
“Relax, we can go after him if you're so worried”
They both make their way forward, which was basically the only way.
The hallway is dark and the air is thick, she never knew that the lower floor was even a thing until today even after working here for years.
Then she feels it, she feels pushed back by a force it knocks her back slightly.
That slightly shocked her enough to yell out mobs name “Mob! Mob! Hey, you don't have to do this job, I’ll just grab some salt and throw it around and even pay you guys! Mob!” She shouts as she sees him putting out his hands like he’s casting a spell “Reigen, REIGEN! Get your ass here!” She hears the shuffling as she clings on the slimy wall not caring if it kicks her.
The air feels heavier when she sees his Mob's stance change like he’s pushing something heavy, how much did they pay for a special effects team? She thinks she’s dreaming when there's a colorful blue-ish hue surrounding an unknown object.
There's a clang and a bang. YN can't see much due to the darkness but suddenly something illuminates and she sees it.
Then she has to blink.
Mob is floating in the air.
He floats with such grace, and the light around him glows a little brighter along with some shapes. It's strange how YN is almost in a trance for it, stepping closer to see it better.
She isn't proud to say but she was quite captured by the fact that the schoolboy was floating.
She was not so captured when he had been flung into her direction which resulted in her and Reigen who was right behind YN thumping on the floor “Mob immediately gets up and checks on YN who looked pretty dazed at the fact she’s been knocked back so hard and Reigen who looked pretty pissed - not at Mob, but the spirit.
Mob walks menacing slowly to the ‘Thing’
Spreading out his arms and YN thinks she sees his hair float.
“Y-YN? Are you okay? Are you hurt-”
All she can think about is how Mob was doing She feels dizzy but tries to keep steady “Get Mob out of here! What's even happening? I think I just saw him float!” her words slur slightly from the impact, Reigen kinda help softened the blow.
YN lifts herself up, giving a hand to Reigen to help him get up “I know this is the last thing you want to hear but, Mob has this and he is a psychic”
Before she can say anything else the smell of the room lessens, it feels clean and less like dead birds.
“Mrs.Y-YN? Are you hurt?! Shishou?!” Mob walks out from the smoke seemingly unharmed other than his hair is in a mess.
YN doesn't know this boy all too much.
But she would die for him.
She runs up to him and checks for wounds which consisted of a scratch on his leg which was blue, she can only assume it was painted but there was no paint around - or maybe it was from before and she didn't notice.
The injury looks familiar.
“YN Mob, you can call me YN” She hugs him like he’s going to disappear, then let's go “S-sorry for hugging you suddenly, It's probably the adrenaline”
“It's alright Mrs- YN, I don't mind hugs. I’m alright, the spirit was a little stronger than I expected but gave up really fast when I lost control a little”
She has no idea what all of this means but just nods dragging both of the boys the ‘elevator’ that she will never use again.
“See, told you he had this under control” Under what circumstances is was this under control at all “Mob you alright? I’ll treat you for some ramen…”
YN places one hand on her hip and one on her face trying to get rid of the headache forming “I have so many things to say...But my head really does hurt so I’ll say one”
Reigen anticipates an insult or a complaint and readies a reply.
“That was so cool”
Mob blushes.
Reigen wants to grin and say something smart, but can't so he just mutters a little “I know” as Mob brings them up, this time with less force since it was going up.
“Uhm, you guys can wait outside while I go grab my checkbook…and probably go ask my boss for a day off”
-
The boss's eyeballs were popping from his skull, he has tried for years to get rid of the smell “Holy shit, did the exorcism company clean the elevator?” even investing in a cleaning company years ago but it never worked.
“No, but they did actually get rid of the ghost”
“Psh get rid of the ghost, anyways I can always trust you to fix things” He signs the check and hands it to YN “Actually, you don't look so good”
“The exorcism was pretty intense and I feel pretty dizzy”
For a moment YN wonders if he worries until he says “Oh, well there are headache patches in the cabinets”
“Actually, I was wondering if I could have the day off?” YN picked on her fingers nervously.
“That was sudden, may I ask the reason?” you just told me I don't look so good?
“Well I was pretty knocked up when they were doing the exorcism”
“I see….I hate to say this, and I actually mean this but I have to go for an actual meeting with the Wasabi firm all the way in the soy sauce district so I won't be here the whole day. Kelsey could do the job but I don't think she can handle everyone” YN turns pale “But I’ll add this on your sick day”
“I’ll hold you on that boss” She tries to chuckle and holds her head in her hands “Have a good day”
Outside she hears everyone praise her for finding the exorcist, she really is too dizzy to deal with this.
She hands Reigen the check “Me and mob are going to Family Mart to go grab some drinks, do you want to follow?”
“I would love to” She sees her boss get into his car “I have to work”
“What I thought you said you weren't feeling well”
“Welp, duty calls”
“Mrs. YN, here take my onigiris”
“Mob…Thank you, but I can't possibly take all of them” He places the whole Tupperware in her palm and steps back smiling “Don't worry, Shishou is going to treat me for brunch anyways so these would go to waste anyways”
"Thank you...I'll cherish every bite" She held onto the onigiri like it was a newborn baby.
Reigen tells Mob that he can go ahead and wait at the train station saying he'll catch up with him later "You know if you ever have problems like this you can always call us"
YN smiles, her head still hurts but Reigen reaches into his pocket and hands her a headache patch, she slowly accepts it - the tiredness is still there, but the warm feeling felt nice.
"I'll be sure to I guess come over for more seminars, they are quite entertaining the more I think about it"
"It is my job"
"It is indeed, I'll see you soon? For the next seminar next week"
"I'll prepare my slides, with more pizzaz this time" When was this man never anything but pizzaz.
Just like that, she's walking back to her office.
YN takes the stairs.
It doesn't reek of dead birds.
At home, she greets Sherman who wags his tail at her return.
While taking her bath, her bones were still sore from everything, something she didn't expect from a mere exorcism.
It took her breath away.
She had work tomorrow and is still trying to make sense of her idiotic co-workers.
What she witnessed today was nothing she's seen, well obviously - you don't always see a young boy fly in the air and body slam you or magically find out that your office was haunted for years.
It feels childish to admit but, she wants to see more of it again.

PLATONIC REIGEN X READER

In which Reigen and YN make a bet
A snippet of chapter 5 of chilli flakes on AO3. The current chapter takes place in middle school
“No I don't get it, run me over your plan again"
“All...I'm saying h-hah god...is that we should participate in the twin bicycle competition f-for our hah school, I hate the stairs”
Reigen stared at her suspiciously “YN….you are literally out of breath as we speak.”
The school cultural festival was starting soon, everyone was getting ready to make their fair buck for their own booth. They had walked past the school bulletin board while taking out the trash and saw the sign.
Come all students, let's all participate in the once a year school canteen program !! where you show off your class’s hidden talents
You can sell food, open cafes, and many more (with terms and conditions)
YOU CAN ALSO COMPETE IN OUR ANNUAL WRITING/BAKING/COOKING COMPETITION THAT WILL BE HELD IN OUR SCHOOL’S AUDITORIUM
YN turned a blind eye while Reigen saw the reward.
Students can win prizes such as a
-10000YEN
-5000YEN
-Second-hand camera
He totally wanted one of them, Reigen grabbed one of the posters, ripping it from the school board. It might be vandalism, but nobody was there to see, so it's not technically vandalism.
Reigen then shook YN, who was beside him “YN LOOK!” He shoved the piece of paper in her face “I can't exactly see anything...IF YOU'RE SHOVING IT IN MY FACE” She comically yelled back, snatching the piece of paper “Okay...and?”
“Is that the only reaction you're gonna give me?” He said he wasn't getting a reaction, so he placed the paper in his hand pointing “Idiot, look at the prize.”
YN rolled her eyes before letting them wonder about the paper “So? Reigen Arataka, we need'th not spend our time on such childish activities” she gripped the paper and started glowing.
The school’s way of competition was super rigged, Komina participated in all three competitions which were not allowed but she did anyway. Every year, Komina (a mean girl) would win just because that's why YN was so hesitant in joining.
"You can do it, but I am not" She makes a serious face.
“C'mon YN doesn't give me that look, I know you want to participate” She giggled “Was my tsundere look that convincing?”
“Please, you couldn't even fool a fly” In reality, Reigen was totally not fooled by YN’s acting skills and did not in fact get worried.
YN and Reigen walked down the halls, skipping club activity to hide in a secluded part of the school where no teachers would walk since it was ‘haunted’ but the two teens lived for the unknown and just went along.
This was a routine for Reigen and YN, skip club, hang out, gossip about the art teacher and so on - they would smuggle PokeMob cards inside the sole of their shoes to get away with bringing what the school likes to call ‘contraband’
“Anyways….Are you serious about this?” YN quired taking a right “Yeah for sure, I was thinking you could participate in the pie-making comp-”
“Since when were you deciding my plans Arataka? We’re not even married yet”
“U’huh okay anyways, you always talked about how your grandma made pies, I thought we could y’know do that” They reached towards a door that was loose enough for them to squeeze their tiny bodies between
YN looks at him thoughtfully before replying “Well, I do…..but it's not that often..”
“I pay attention... when you ramble”
“Sap” Cute
“Shut up” He gently shoved YN and got their PokeMob cards ready to play.
YN pondered while shuffling her deck, if she were to participate in this competition she would have to ask her mother for money for the ingredients since she highly doubted the school could prepare jack shit for them.
“Hmm, I’ll think about it” She placed her fully evolved Magikarp down to eliminate Reigen's legendary “Pikachu'' card “You may win with luck my friend but…..never underestimate me at a card game.”
Reigen laid his head on the wall, hitting it in the process “Dangit! I thought I had this one” Every time they would play PokeMob YN had instantatioly won every game she played with Reigen, the game was more on intuition than luck - which normally would work in Reigen's favor, but sadly, YN was a God.
She grabbed a deck of cards, holding it as if she was a news reporter “Incoming news, REIGEN FUCKING SUCKS AND.I.RULE” She shoved all her glory in Reigens face, which to be fair was quite an amusing sight.
RING
“That's our queue to leave” They packed their belongings and made their way carefully towards to main school grounds, fortunately all the teachers were zombies t notice the teens make their way out of the closet together “I have made my decision Arataka” she stopped mid-walk that also made Reigen stop in his tracks.
“I’ll be participating in the pie competition~” She was going to do this for many reasons, to make her granny proud and…
“In return, if I do~”
“Huh, what do-” She shushed him with her finger “Shush dear boy, I mean if I win at least third you will be my wife” Reigen was in disbelief, he shook his head frantically “No no nope” He said, popping the ‘p’. He wasn't mad, just confused? “What do I even get out of this?” He wasn't mad, it was just confusion?
“Simple. If you win, then I’ll be your wife”
Reigen did not just blush, he was absolutely not embarrassed.
He was now shushing her “D-Don't say that type of things” God why was YN so shameless at times like this.
“Psh, c’mon Juliet~ I want to teach you something today, let's go” They walked out of school, Reigen knew YN didn't mean much from what she said, knowing the girl she could accidentally tell a student she had a pole and everyone would think she actually had POLIO which was completely off - but since some of her classmates would mishear her over the recess they thought otherwise and showed up to her table with flowers and goodbye cards. This may or may not have happened last month, they don't talk about it.
A small rustle and giggle could be heard from behind them, Reigen snapped his head left and right to see if anyone was eavesdropping on their conversation, there was no one.
The duo set their way towards the local market before heading to their little spot, scanning the foods YN decides not to buy anything as Reigen buys his soft drink. Setting it on the counter he looks at the girl “You not buying anything YN?”
“..Nah, I wanna save it for another day” Reigen shrugged, a little suspicious of her action, he did know how to read people after all.
He grabbed a chocolate bar and placed it on the counter “Hey I'm not buying anything-”
“Uhuh, you say that now but come steal my food, don't worry about it. It's on sale anyways” YN looked slightly guilty but did not reject the offer.
They both skipped to the garden eating/drinking their snacks to only get stomach cramps on their sides “We should not have skipped-ow” YN clutched her stomach as Reigen and her limped their way to a dry flower patch to sit down
“Soo, what do you have in mind we do today?” YN reached to her pocket pulling out tomato seeds “Well, i thought maybe since I've been here for what 69 years we should-”
“YN that is not possible-”
“Shush boy, as I was saying. I always respected this place, watering the plant and stuff and maybe I want to leave my mark here. Hence, this” She waved the seeds in front of him
Reigen squinted his eyes “You want to plant a….what is that?”
YN called him over to the soil patch “Well these my friend, are daisies” Reigen let her continue “I heard that their super low maintenance and look” she pointed at the sidewalk of the entrance “They even grow on concrete”
“Why do you even have seeds in the first place?”
“Well for starters it's just the yellow part of the flower and I walk to school and collect them”
Reigen thinks, then replied shrugging his shoulders “Sounds weird but I guess that's nice, we ought to decorate this place with some of our things anyways”
“Woah daisies are pretty rough huh, the government should use them for war and….stuff” They both thought about bombing Komina’s house at that moment but didn't fancy the thought of cleaning up Komina’s body. Well YN thought that, not Reigen.
YN digs a small hole trying to loosen the soil a little, Reigen placing the seeds in before covering them in soil “I think that ought to do it” She says admiring her handicraft “Now we have to water it every dayyyyy”
“Dude we come here like...almost every day”
“True……” YN leaned on him with her dirty soil-filled hands “Then?”
He just looked away, his face scrunched up “Ugh, I didn't want to say this now but it's about my mom...” YN didn't move, still on him “Oh yes Mrs.Mom, what did she have to say? I hope I get more leftovers, my mom hasn't been cooking much lately”
A sigh left his mouth, it was dry despite him drinking only a minute ago “I don't...don't know if we can hang out after this month a lot…” YN got up “If you want space I totally don't-”
“No! That's not it...It's…..It's about me and you changing…. OH yea I don't wanna miss watching adventure mob, yea adventure mob, we won't be able to record it” It was a lie but he couldn't tell her, not yet - another time, not when their friendship is on the line
YN sighed in relief. She knew he might be hiding something, but maybe he wasn't. She was being a little too paranoid. Slapping Reigen in the back, she laughed “Phew dude, you scared me for a second, getting all serious and stuff”
He tried to laugh, but it came out sounding like a choking cat “H-hehe, totally..” Changing the topic he chirps in “So you're participating in the pie competition?”
“Oh yeah, I am. You're doing the essay one, right?”
The knots in his stomach grew “Yup, I'm a little worried”
“Why? You're on top of the class for your amazing essays, I'm sure you can write an amazing story or something”
The way she worded it seemed so easy. “Yeah but….what if..”
What if he couldn't do it? What if he just made a fool of himself? What if-
She stroked his hair gently, pulling him out of his thoughts “Hey ‘Taka, if anyone were to win that competition and make me their wife, I'm sure it's you”
The way she so shamelessly said it made Reigen not react, he was going to make her proud.
He leaned into her touch, taking a deep breath while taking her hand in his, shaking in an awkward position with a smile.
“May the best wife win”
[Hope you guys enjoy this!! Tiny reigen and YN bring me so much joy I can't even explain it, and yes platonic is like the best way to go with these cuties]

Crossing the borders illegally legal
In which you follow the slow yet melancholic lifestyle of YN with a hint of joy while also defying the goverments laws in hopes of the betterment of solving a silly case of missing people.
Twenty-nine.
Twenty-eight.
Counting back the steps to get home.
It gets a little dull, YN concludes while walking home. She knows that people around her are getting married and stuff, it doesn't bother her.
It shouldn’t.
She’s just a busy woman with work, that’s accomplishing enough.
Two.
One.
Getting a mini apartment might have been the best thing she’s done since she yelled back at her mother, though it does get lonely.
Luckily she has Sherman and her favorite series to watch on her laptop, TV is overrated.
It’s nice to watch a slice-of-life show, keeps her sane.
YN is pretty sure she’s seen this at least more than four times, but something about it makes it comforting.
Something about people coming together and genuinely caring about each other has her bubbly every time she watches it.
It's nice.
Sherman is a concerning animal though, he’s now what looks like reading a book— she would be more concerned but she decides to sleep it off evaluating her day to drift into sleep.
Another day will begin.
-
It's a horrible one.
She doesn't know when it started but she feels so small.
So alone.
The best way to describe the feeling is if you imagine your chest.
Then imagine your childhood, when you were happy.
Then your life now, how you wish to hold yourself and hug them senselessly telling them they’ll be okay in their trying times as they tremble in your arms unsure of how to react.
That might have been a little dramatic, but YN writes down the thought in her little notepad.
Maybe she could write a novel one day she thinks.
Talk about her life experiences and—
The shower water turns lukewarm.
She goes to tie her hair in the mirror when she notices.
She has already covered it with newspaper.
-
Once every other month YN calls her mom to check in.
Well, they both reluctantly check on each other.
Her sister was always the more promising one, always seemed like she was always a step ahead.
“Just wanted to say hi that's all” She twirls a strand of stray hair while speaking.
“Well, things have been okay at home, nothing much has changed. Your sister is entering an international competition this weekend for the ballet” Her mother says proudly, something she’s yet to hear directed at her.
Everything YN would try at and fail.
She excelled in.
She just hums in reply, not saying much as she continues.
“Oh that's great”
“It is, I wish you were more athletic as a kid, you always stayed in your room all day and not help at all around”
As a moment passes, her chest becomes stiff, and suddenly the glum feeling she was getting creeps over her shoulder.
She hangs up and lays in bed, Sherman on her side.
“Well I'm going to go now, I'm tired”
“Alright, good night”
He’s warm.
She just holds him and stares at the ceiling closing her eyes.
Her chest feels tight.
She’s twenty-nine for god sake, small stuff shouldn't have this much of an effect on her anymore considering how small the issues were.
But why was she still bothered?
-
To work with people, she needs to be people.
“You know about surfing slang?!” Oh, that might have been the wrong slang.
“Wait, you're telling me you would work out on the weekends?” Jermain exclaims, dropping whatever he was doing to give YN his full attention.
“Carrying boxes builds extra muscle, so I can't say no to a free workout session, brah,” YN says, trying to add some sports slang and expression.
Jermain reaches into his back pocket and starts digging. Man, do male pants have too much space in them because he has two mini notebooks and a pocket knife? Was this guy some type of criminal?
Finally, after digging in his ass for about two minutes, he pulls out his smartphone “My dad owns this entire land of this beach and there are these free surfing classes they have. To be honest I didn't know anyone in the office would be interested in this so I just…Anyways I’ll go tell the boss about this!”
The employees are somewhat bearable, YN finds ways to communicate with Jermain when Reigen gave her a list of things to say that relate to football with work.
This increases productivity by 0.09 percent, she can now get back to her weekend job.
She was actually enjoying work before her boss interrupted “YN to the office”
-
Another lecture was given, at least it was a positive one.
Or not.
“You should put on some makeup, I mean just saying the eye bags are growing and the company's image and stuff"
"Nothing as for now, there have been some improvements to the new workers, good job. Kelsey's positive vibe might be rubbing off on them"
YN hates the existence of Men.
“I mean I don't really have the time or money to do it. But I’ll keep that in mind” She won't "Anything else?"
Yeah, like Kelsey - oh yes Kelsey, her nails and hair are always perfect. Even when it was messy she looked straight out of a modeling magazine that sells shampoo for curly hair.
She wishes she could be like that.
Just this time maybe, YN will take this obviously rude advice.
-
While fixing the makeup she sat looking at the mirror.
More foundation to cover her eye bags.
More blush for her pale face.
It wasn't enough.
She probably needs more eyeliner there—no that looks bad.
But what if she—
She slams the makeup down, the eyeliner that she overdid just now - was running down her face.
A realization set in, well it's not really a realization if you knew about it before.
Why bother?
She thinks of what happened in high school.
YN covers the mirror again.

'Children coming back with strange injuries Tonkatsu Prefecture’ and 'Do not let your pet off of their leach, do so and it will be your last'
These are a couple of the many articles that have been becoming a sensation recently, where teens who had seemingly misbehaved and run into the forest — come out with either injury or come back a completely new person.
Most of the netizens just commented on how 'Nature scared the kids fr', later on, it came out that teenagers who engaged in activities like drinking would enter. One particular day a known group of four teenagers were venturing late at night but only three came out the next, none of them seemed to really remember their friend who drowned.
Well, no one she knows lives in that town anyway.
Seems like townsfolk mania, towns like that are often closed-minded and blame everything on some type of devil or teenager.
It was pretty common for pets to go missing and teens to cause havoc but not at the amount that was happening to that town in particular.
But it seems that there was a specific pattern for all of this, like the kidnapper or influencer.
Strange.
Her shoes are all soggy from the rain, she shouldn't have washed her shoes yesterday.
Ah, this is great.
She kneels to grab the shoes and holds them close to her. It must have felt tired of her, being washed feeling cleaner than to be dirtied again - YN emphasizes with this object, she might be crazy.
She just wants it to be gone.
-
She can feel all her bones coming back and they’re craving motion. It was like her life was stagnant, nothing changing, unmoving.
Nothing.
Thinking about when she was a kid, she wanted to be an astronomer discovering new planets and helping people.
That dream crashed and burnt the moment she realized she needed to be great at math, her mother explicitly saying she wouldn’t be paying for her college fees because astronomy was a pricey major.
Working a desk job at a company managing people shouldn’t be all that bad right?
She should be grateful for this.
Being almost thirty with just a business diploma.
She amounted to nothing.
Pity.
Closing her laptop she says goodbye to everyone, sliding to Kelsey’s desk before she leaves “Kels, want to grab dinner? I think I have enough money for the week to try that new western place”
“Oh dang, I would love to but..” YN knows this, she knows this “Your husband made dinner?”
“Yes! And the kids are starting school soon so I have to be home more, we can do it next time if you want to"
It's probably what she felt for her, she doesn't want that “No, no it's fine Kelsey. Uh, I’ll go but some ice cream then”
"I don't mind you know, I can just tell him to save some for me, you've got to be starving-"
Twenty-eight-
"It's fine" YN doesn't elaborate and walks.
Twenty-nine.
It's the same.
YN stops in her tracks, and she finds a wall to lean on.
Reminding herself that people were starving and dying and she was some basic girl in some type of midlife crisis, she needed to set her mind straight.
The train station, oh right.
Todays Thursday.
Her seminar, that's right.
Honestly, she’s too tired to care.
“Sorry I’m late, I completely forgot about today,” She says as she rushes through the door, Reigen seems to be arranging some documents on the table before he ruffles them out of the way.
Wiping his forehead he replies “No worries! Mobs actually also running late, has some type of thing with his friends today, and actually, let me text him to have the day off”
“Oh, then will we just do it?”
“I was about to cancel, but let's do it anyways pupil” He throws a plastic chair at YN, which misses and smacks her right in the face - it goes unnoticed by Reigen as he scrambles to the room.
Reigen comes back from the other room with his laptop and scratches his head looking a little stressed while holding his laptop “There might be a problem”
He walks back to his desk and sighs nervously “So you've been coming here quite often- which isn't bad, it's great because we finished the program but the problem is…..we finished the program”
“I see” They both sat there quietly for a moment before YN broke the silence by clapping her hands and gathering her things “I guess I should get going, on oh” She handed him an envelope “Can't forget your fees"
He accepts them but stops her as she makes her way out falling in the process from the water leaking from the air-conditioning that he forgot to put a bucket, YN puts out her arms to try to catch him but he plays it off by resting his head on his hand and posses?
They both just look at each other before YN swears she hears a whisp from her shoulder saying 'real smooth man'
"Do you remember what I told you last time we met?"
"Slap an employee if needed and take up sponsorships but make sure I have all the rights to the company?" She says with a monotone tone.
-
Reigen ignores her voice and twirls his hand "Yes but the other thing"
"Gossip and brunch?" YN replies puzzled, tilting her head to the side.
"Exactly!" His eyes sparkled "When I tell you I got gossip, I mean it"
"You think of me as lowly, I'm obviously gossiping about that other exorcist down the street. Even Mob says that there wasn't an ounce of spiritual energy and was scamming them"
Reigen ends up ordering some fries from down the street and they end up eating in the office from the lack of chairs.
"I hope this isn't about your customers" YN gapes at him crossing her arms while eating.
"Isn't that what you do-"
"Tut-tut friend, tut-tut. I solve the problems, not create more. This guy purposefully massaged my back in all the wrong areas, he was really going for my thigh. Apparently, the other ladies that went there had similar experiences"
"Reigen that might be a different type of problem, we might need to consult the police on this one"
"And your point is?"
He gasps, scandalized "You don't think he-"
"He just might, why do think people left the one-star review plus police report on the website review" Reigen mumbles something under his breath realizing some stuff.
"Well other than the strange massage, that I already anonymously exorcised" YN just stares at him "Well Mob did...But never mind that, I found out about a thing that might be my big hit"
"The one with missing cats," He says casually while he plays with his fries and tomato sauce drawing a penis.
YN's eyes widen "You can't be talking about the one at..."
"Tonkatsu prefecture"
YN almost spits out her drink "The manic town case with missing cats?"
"Wait mobs coming?" She says stunned, Reigen brushes her off and continues "Duh, as I was saying"
She quickly thinks about something "Doesn't your mom live nearby?"
"Yeah...I don't really talk to her anymore" He hesitates "She lives right outside of the border so she should be fine but that doesn't stop gossip from spreading across the small town. I'm leaving tomorrow actually, getting that cheap train fare and parent discount since Mob is coming-"
"No way his parents are okay with this"
"Surprisingly yes" YN contemplates calling CPS "And the lady who needs our service bought us an extra ticket on accident, so I was thinking...." Reigen draws more penises with the fry that has gone cold "If you wanted to tag along, just-saying-since-y'know-for-fun-and-stuff..."
YN smiles fondly and thinks Reigen is charming "I would.." She says then stops, her boss is making her do more things, what would he say about this? She could get fired and it all would be over.
She doesn't know what-
Reigen interrupts "You don't have to come if you don't want to, I just don't want to waste the ticket"
"I would..really, just that-"
"And how did you even come to that intuition?"
"Your work" He says placing his hand on his chin "I say to let your new employees handle themselves for one day, if they can't then they should get fired"
"I don't think how that works" If only it could be that easy "I would get fired"
"Not if you tell your boss that they should at least try to handle themselves for a day, he probably will agree since its part of the training manual"
"My gut obviously darling"
"My gut usually tells me I'm constipated but go on"
"You should see a doctor about it but don't you think it's pretty odd for a bunch of animals, especially cats disappearing, a list of missing people, and children cases"
"A doctor is too expensive, I rather explode. Even if you feel suspicious how are you even going to get past the border? They've got it on lockdown" She states nonchalantly.
"True but exploding doesn't sound fun, try Chinese medicine or something before it gets worse. That's right but you forgot one thing"
"I'll think about it and what thing?"
"I'm Reigen Arataka" He shoots up to his feet, then rummages through his first aid kit and hands her the medicine, which she gladly accepts.
YN grows fonder every second, every ounce of possible bullshit made her grow fonder. A feeling that she wants to repress, though she can't hide from how he glows "That sounds fun"
"And?" She questions doubtfully.
"You underestimate me"
"I think I overestimate you"
"Sure you do" He chides "But seriously I have a plan"
"So.." He twiddles his fingers on the side of his pants nervously, "Do you want to join us?" He asks again, even though it really isn't a question.
She blinks, genuinely taken aback by the request. So she sits a little straighter "I'll try"
She meant it, she really will.
-
YN somehow managed to convince her boss to give her some time off in the middle of June, thank god she has four December holidays stockpiled.
They all sit on the train, Mob sitting next to YN before he stares at her hands.
Confused, she asked him "Is there something wrong?"
Mob glanced at her, his face calm but curious "Could I..hold your hand?"
Odd request.
But she agreed, she did recently cut her nails (she did an amazing job at getting the edges to be perfect)
Mob looks at Reigen and then back at YN “Huh, I never sensed this before”
Reigen, not missing a beat snorts “Her beefy hands?”
YN just stars at him and nods her head back at Mob “I’ll take that as a compliment, I do lift boxes” she chuckles, damn her hands must be rough.
Mob holds her hands with a glimmer “Have you ever felt a connection to the ghost?”
“Not really no? Why do you ask?”
“It's just that" Mob grips hovers over her hand "I think feel a hint of psychic abilities within you”
“What?! No way, not even me- I mean” Reigen coughs in his sleeve “What does this mean?”
Spirits?
“Well, if Mrs.YN would allow me to awaken them, she could maybe see spirits”
What the hell?
Mob gently places his hands out for YN to grab, he whispers a little "strong rough hands" under his breath in amazement, YN has to control her giggles.
She dosent think for a minute before replying “Hell yeah”
“Heads up, you might be able to see the annoying green orb that gives me brain damage every week” Reigen says, Mob nods along.
“Green orb?”
“He means dimple, he’s not too bad once you know him.” He suddenly swats his ear "Shut the hell up, sheesh. Mob do your thing"
"Tell me if you feel anything" Mob says softly, YN nodded, the only thing she could focus now was his hands warming in her own— almost like his hands were a heat warmer.
The flowers grow in her eyes, and the feeling of Mob's gentle hands suddenly feel like there's a barrier between them.
Her pupils dilate a little when Mob lets go of the colors around her.
A hue of blue, she can actually see a blob of green in front of her whose picking its nose.
YN thinks she sees Mob scold the blob saying 'Dimple, don't pick your nose in front of people who can see you, it's rude'
Trying to play it cool, YN excuses herself to the toilet which earns a glance of concern from the two boys...and blob.
Once inside, she splashed cold water on her face, gripping the sink tightly.
She can actually…See them…
She walks back to her seat “You good?” Reigen questions.
She has never felt so elevated in my life.
Reigen could easily tell by the way her lips crinkled she was trying not to explode, she kept looking around the train to see if she could see more spirits (there were none other than dimple).
Dimple on the other hand was swirling around her head.
Mob even told Dimple to stop but YN said it was alright, taking in the wonder of the spirit.
Until she felt the urge to vomit.
The rest of the trip was spent in silence.
-
If only the silence could last.
"What the actual fuck do you mean the place is on lockdown and you conveniently decided to leave that part out" YN thinks she might pop a blood vessel.
Reigen huffs, turning to face the green blob "Dimple I told you this was meant to be a secret"
She turns to him unconvinced "How exactly do you have it covered dear 'Taka, do tell" Her voice filled with frustration at the sheer absurdity of the situation
Dimple just shrugs unapologetically "What do you expect? Would you rather have her freak out here or in front of the officers"
"Officers? Yup alright" YN mutters, her blood pressure sure to spike "Yup alright, keep calm YN. I just need to get another ticket and leave-"
"Relax I've got it all covered" Reigen interrupts smoothly.
"So I'm going to jail for trespassing, child endangerment, and forgery? I skip work once and this is what I get"
Unbothered by her frustration, he calmly reaches for his luggage from above them, his confidence not faltering for even a second as he takes out a thick file from the bag "I've got these"
YN blinks in disbelief for the second time today "Oh great a folder" YN deadpanned "The authorities will love that you organized their criminal activity the first one being trespassing with our names...God, they might charge us for child endangerment.."
"Please don't you think I've got it covered? I've got these documents" He smiles, then looks around sneakily and leans in to whisper "That I forged"
"I think you should have a little more faith in Shishou" Mobinterjected "If he messes up he'll promise to take the blame"
"Exactly Mob-"
"All the blame" Mob says suddenly intensely with purpose.
YN wonders if Mob was always intense.
Reigen sighs in defeat "Yes I'll take all the blame, happy now?"
"Not in the slightest" She dryly replies "But..... I trust you, so what's the plan?"
Reigen's smile was back, confidence oozing out of every pore "Just follow my lead"
She couldn't help but wonder how her mug shot would look.
-
Before YN could retort, an officer stepped in front of them "This area is strictly off limits"
YN sends off any dignity she has because right now, she is going to give it her all "No babe you can't be serious"
"Oh I'm serious alright, our son is going to meet his grandma whether you like it or not"
"Sorry officer just give us another minute" YN says sweetly before pulling Mob gently to her "That woman was a horrible wench who disowned me and threw out everything I loved"
"I-"
"They were my limited edition ninja turtle figurines, you would know this if you actually paid attention to me instead of sitting on your lazy ass all day"
"Your mother was not the best I know but-"
"Wasn't the best is an understatement for what she did, ah the woman who hated me so much for dating you and having this child" She turns to Mob and pats his head "No offense sweety, I love you so much"
"She didn't want you to date me because..."
"Because what Howard" YN pressed, she didn't know how long she could keep this charade up.
"I-I'm" Reigen looks away ashamed "I'm...lactose intolerant"
"You can't be.."
The guard looks bewildered and gasps in the background "I am...Your mother was worried that my inability to consume dairy would affect your cooking skills or you might just kill me with the amount of cheese you would cook and feed me"
"But I made you an extra cheesy and creamy pizza yesterday with extra cream"
"I take medicine for it" Dimple quickly blows a gust of wind to the officer's face to distract him which gives YN enough time to poke her eye releasing tears.
"Of cancer, the foot type and it's the last stage" YN cries harder, she poked her eye too hard.
"Honey...I didn't know.."
"I just... Loved you so much...As your mother did, she has been sending letters to you for years but since you just burned them she- I don't know had an intuition and found my office address and sent me a letter saying...she was dying"
"Oh ehm gee!"
From the corner of her hurt eye, she can see the officer sobbing with her "This is all so emotional, these documents seem somewhat feasible but don't bother about it right now j-j-just, one moment please" he runs to another officer to explain the sob story which ends up with them crying.
He hands YN flowers that seem like they've been freshly yet fiercely plucked from a bush of flowers "Please give these to her and enjoy your trip, if you guys need help or notice anything suspicious about the town don't feel worried to call us"
Dimple floats to YN "Damn I didn't know you were that good at acting"
She grins at him whipping her hair back "What can I say, I was a theater kid- Oh shit he's coming back"
The officer comes back a sniffling mess but hands YN and Reigen back the file "I just talked to my higher-ups and they gave you guys the green light" YN and Reigen thank the officer saying more things like 'YN's mother would be thankful' which leads to more sniffles.
A super buff security officer stops them in their tracks "I just checked with my superior and...."
Before they can let out a sigh of relief an officer yells from afar "Hold on there just a minute!"
They were totally going to get thrown in jail.
They all hold their breath.
"He says to escort you guys personally"
YN's legs almost give up from the panic "Thank you..."
Once they get escorted to a local shop and leave Reigen melts on the floor, YN feels like she just done drugs and Mob is just devoid of emotions still processing what happened.
The officer gives her a nod "No worries ma'am, it's just that with the news about the disappearance and aerated water factory it can be dangerous if you and your family wander too close"
"Factory?" YN piqued in interest.
"Yeah" The officer replies, tone casual but there was something uneasy in his eyes "It was a factory near this church orphanage that produced aerated water in large quantities but got shut down after a while, but the factory was never destroyed, so it was just left to be abandoned. It doesn't stop punks from entering and getting themselves into trouble though"
YN nods "If I could ask, what type of accident?"
"It's alright" The officer replies even though his voice tightens, Reigen and Mob listening intently "Some kids were getting brave for their own good —one of them jumped into the pool of aerated water. The kid died on the scene even after resuscitation because rescuers had to fish him out from below"
"Was it that deep?"
The officer shook his head, eyes darkening "That's the thing ma'am, the kid was a national swimmer"
"Then why couldn't he swim up?" YN couldn't hold her curiosity, even though she was getting uneasy by the second.
The officer turns his gaze to her as they reach their stop "That's the thing about aerated water— you don't float. You sink"
Reigen instinctively starts to talk to Mob, talking louder to drown out the silence from the conversation.
-
Reigen heaves out a shaky breath "See I told you...I'm Reigen Arataka"
She looks at him panting "You...Definitely are"
“Are you the exorcist?” She asks peering through the tiny crack of the door cautiously.
YN grabs her stuff out of the taxi "Our old church..."
"A little shocked right? I feel you" He lugs his bag and knocks on the door, it takes a while for the person to open the door, probably peeping through the peephole to check before opening the door to reveal the nun.
She shakes off the feeling when the two are out of sight and quickly follows behind.
“Yes indeed we are" He replies smoothly "This is one of my old friends she’ll tag along if that's fine”
“Yes it is no bother, the pastor always said the more the merrier”
“Alright, so what's the problem?” She escorts Reigen around, YN can't help but let her hand run through one of the chairs that she used to sit in. The memories of being young and somewhat free make her heart thump a little.
“Ah, by the way, don't tell the pastor that…” She looks down and mutters something, Reigen tries to ask her to speak up but she’s muttering even softer.
“I once tried telling the others about the oddness of it all, but they just called me deluded” Well maybe this lady was a little in YN’s mind.
So he bends down to her to hear her better, she seems alright with this “Don't let the pastor know you’re an exorcist please, calling an exorcist at a church is considered an omen of the devil”
“Oh, Uh, can do ma’am. You hear that Mob”
Mob nods, his eyes shifting left and right “Yeah, I can"
Reigen looked around to see if anyone was within earshot before speaking "You mentioned in the call, that the children here have always been tired but now more than before, right?"
After all the random getting sick and stuff could be from a bunch of things that aren't spirits “Follow me to the back please, I told the others that I’ll make the dinner today so we could have some alone time”
“If you wanted alone time we could go to a coffee shop nearby,” Reigen says when they enter the kitchen.
“Actually most workers of the church are not to go outside unless for groceries and such”
“I see, anyways continue”
“The children in the church have been getting sick every month and we can't seem to see the problem, I tried to make them veggies for an entire month and disinfected the whole area as much as I could but…”
Sister Sana nodded, her features scrunching up from the memories "Yes, it usually fluctuates from time to time after the pastor prays for them but..." Her voice softened, and a small sniffle could be heard "..We almost lost one of the kids the other day"
Mob's eyes twitch ever so slightly, a flicker of anger and concern washing over his features.
YN thinks that the lady might be a little unhinged but Reigen is writing everything intently in his notebook, she peaks at it.
Reigen catches his expression "Are they fine now?"
"Just barely..." She takes a deep breath to compose herself, then sighs shamefully “They keep getting ill.....Well they always have been ill in a way..but now it takes a week for them to be in tip-top shape”
“If that's the case why won't the church close for the orphanage? Seems unsafe”
“We can't possibly do that, well the children do get better after a couple of days moreover some people of the town rely on the priest for healing - but it's what happens in between” She shudders “They go through so much pain in the time between, it's horrible but we get reporters and donations after, then they get better. It's strange, and I always hear creaks upstairs and the whisper of something oh it's horrible"
YN grabs the boy's shoulders gently to stop him. “Oi Mob, why are you spinning?”
It's just a fat question, does this man know what's going on?
Reigen catches her glances and shuts his notebook “Mob do you sense anything?”
“Not really Shishou, but we should look around because I feel something..” Mob trails off turning in a full circle.
YN doesn't get what he means but she can already tell that it's going to be a hard job
“It's just" He stares out the window "I feel something everywhere and nowhere…I always feel like this with spirits but it's stronger but also not?” He paused, clearly struggling to put his thoughts together “I’ve been feeling this way since last week so I can't really tell the difference” Reigen nods at this looking around more.
“Odd” Mob does a final spin before speaking again "I can feel it everywhere but nowhere...It's all around me but at the same time...not?"
-
Upon arrival, YN didn't sense anything creepy about this place, only the lingering feeling of something that she shrugged off.
But now she’s certain, that something felt off with the building.
“Reigen…” she said worryingly "Can't Mob do his magic and get the spirit out of here like he did before?”
“Exorcise” He corrects then proceeds to walk forward “But no he can't, he needs to get really close and the spirit will know if something's up. It's already sketchy that we're here, to begin with”
Dimple pops behind YN, she feels the urge to smack the blob of gas if not for the fact he was made out of gas "It was my pride and joy"
“How do you know that?”
“Well, there was this cult near Mob’s place called ‘LOL’ or something, but Mob couldn't really exorcize it until he got close to it. And now we’re in a church so there's a bunch of other spirits so it's hard to tell which is which”
"He made some guy spit in my face," Mob says nonchalantly.
"What the hell Dimple"
"Hey-hey don't look at me like that, it was a…."
"But was the spitting necessary?"
Dimple just opted to fly closer to Mob instead of her, which was better anyway since his aura kind of tickled against her neck “Back on the topic on hand, I’m just going to assume that the spirit is as I hate to say this but” Reigen tries his best to muster out his next words “The spirit is as smart as Dimple”
“You prick! Did it really hurt your pride to call me smart” Dimple shouts, face scrunching up.
Reigen shrugs “Whatever we’re dealing with is definitely sentient and knows what it's doing”
YN feels a little out of place in the panning tao she does the next best thing, not helping "I guess I'll finish last week's sodoku in the-"
“And to think this guy started off by scamming people, he sure knows his spirits now”
Reigen turns to Dimple seriously “Shut up, we need to think logically”
“Maybe if we survey the place for long enough we can catch it” Dimple says.
“Exactly, and once we do… Grab it, Mob what do you think?”
Mob shakes his head in agreement “Shishou is right, we need to be sure of it also in case we cause too much trouble”
"Yes but that's exactly why you and Dimple will be talking to the priest, you can definitely pull it off"
Reigen grape her shoulder pulling her back "Oh no you are helping"
YN groans "With what? don't you think that it'll be suspicious if were all huddled up together"
"Reigen I am not flirting with the priest"
"The one with the hot priest, Anthony Scott?"
"First of all why would your mind go there, secondly I think you're the best and also I don't want to do it"
YN groans but just nods because she doesn't know how to play sodoku, Reigen senses that she isn't too convinced so he adds "Fine, and also I've been watching a bunch Fleabag"
"Yes obviously him" Reigen says with so much offense and sass "Who else could play him he's- I'm getting distracted, let's go Mob"
Dimple scoffs and turns to YN "You watch shows with a hot priest and you're at church? I can see why you're interested in coming here instead of being home" YN sighs and smiles at the thought of Reigen finding the priest hot before mentally preparing herself.
-
The room has a yellow brooding hue with a hint of purple dusting the air if that was possible.
Probably.
She sneaks up behind him before coughing very nasally into her arm to get his attention “I am…Interested in donating”
“Oh, why thank you, bless your heart” He smiles brightly ushering YN inside, and then sits down on the long chairs “Since you're new, do you have any questions?”
“Well technically speaking, I'm not new. I used to go here when I was younger”
“I never forget a face, what is your name?”
“YN, YN LN”
The pastor takes a moment to think then does a mini hop like a rabbit “Oh my have you grown, just look at you” He takes a closer look at her “You used to come here with three other friends did you not? You were all so adorable, other than your children playing tic tac toe with the handouts”
She laughs remembering some of it “Yeah, it was the good times. Speaking honestly, I was hesitant about coming back here” She doesn't know why she feels so open all of a sudden, this could be because finds comfort in talking about a time she was happy.
A small silence settles in, the pastor sighs “We can only hope for the best decisions” YN looks at the pastor to see what he means by that but she decides to stay silent when his face shows one of remorse, thinking to himself with deep grief - she regrets bringing the subject up.
“Really?”
“Well recently, there have been many missing cases, and it's not advised to cross the state, especially when there is a lookout team at the moment. I don't know how we managed to come here without trouble”
He stiffens at the mention of it while gripping tightly on his arm which looks like to is injured and is covered by a gold silklike cloth “Why yes… I’ve heard of those”
A laugh interrupts the silence, it feels like the gloomy room is lit up without light.
“The children must be having fun”
“They seem to be, yes. They’re always running around causing a ruckus around here but in a way, I envy it”
“Envy?”
“I don't have a leg yet I’m faster than you, pick up the pace squirt”
“The joy in a sense do you not YN?” He turns the question back to her “-That was out of line for me”
Her answer is an immediate “Yes”
They both smile, knowingly.
“H-Hana, m-my stamin-a can't keep up with your whee-cha-chair”
YN bids goodbye to the pastor who just gives a fond smile as she rushes out to see what's going on outside.
What she saw was none other than a crime scene, a girl in a wheelchair laughing like a Disney villain and poor Mob on the floor hyperventilating.
YN quickly asks him if he needs an inhaler which he replies “I’m super weak an old lady even beat me in running”
To which the girl in the wheel-chair, howled with laughter clutching her stomach.
Once Mob calmed down Hana (wheel-chair girl) passed him a bottle of water “I still can't believe an old lady beat you, you're so freaking funny”
Mob turns to YN for help for a reply and she just shrugs “She….was really fast…”
It was so contagious that YN let herself laugh a little until the girl fell out of her wheelchair, Mob ran to her assistance which she accepted wobbly from laughter.
“Sure sure bowl-cut boy and I was speeding my way to victory. Maybe you're the grandma”
“I am clearly a boy”
“No but- I’m going to die” The girl indeed looked like she was going to die from how red her face was getting, she kept laughing.
The laughter was cut sharp when Hana spoke "So now that I've proven how much better I am compared to this chump, can I help you defeat the demon that you're here to exorcise"
YN wouldn't be shocked if she was, wait maybe she might be one.
YN feels a light thump on her chest, looking around for anybody overhearing them "Whaaaaaaa? Us exorcist? At a church? Mob will you get a look at this fool?"
Mob nods his head rapidly but also shakes it, agreeing and also disagreeing to not be rude to both of them "Not a fool but I agree, I agree"
Hana sighs and points at YN "Sure, now why are you here sneaking around the blond dude who is definitely not your husband after you said to the receptionist you guys were?"
"Well because we c-"
She shushes YN up with her hand "Sure lady, I'm sure during the lockdown where cats and some adults go missing is a good sign to come here to visit your fake mother"
YN and Mob just stare and gulp "You caught us, are my acting skills that bad?"
She looks at Hana who rubs her head in shock "Not gonna lie, I just guessed this so it's glad to know I have great intuition. I must be a psychic or something"
Before YN could say more she noticed Reigen discretely not so discreetly waving his hand to signal them to him.
"But why not?" YN cant slap a child but might be able to explode one with her brain. Hana kept being persistent with YN running out of excuses to come up with when suddenly, shockingly Mob spoke up.
"As much as I love this little thing that's happening-"
Hana stops YN from talking again, this reminds her of her office but she doesn't feel like slapping anybody "I know you guys are going to defeat the cool demon, can I come?"
"First no we are not going to the demon and secondly even if we were no way we're bringing you" YN says slightly sternly as she would be with Sherman.
“No, you can't help” Mob says with the voice she uses when she scolds the interns.
“What? Why not Shigeo” She crosses her arm across her chest.
“It's going to be dangerous”
“Oh I see what you're doing here”
“What am I doing? I'm standing still-”
“You think I can't do it because I don't have a leg! You're an ableist, I knew it”
“What? W-WHO”
YN walks over to Reigen who has gotten tired from looking like a creep behind the tree, tilting her head to whisper to him “Do you think we should step in?”
Do all children know how to gaslight?
Angel's wings appear on his head before she sees devil horns “Nah not yet, I wanna see what happens” They both grin watching Mob stumble over his words, Dimple eats some popcorn he found in the trash and watches from the distance.
“I am not an ableist, i-i just think you-”
She shoots him a peace sign, pulling on her eye “Just kidding”
Mob feels his psychic level go up, he has never felt so….. many emotions "If you let me finish…” he inhales “I don't want you to get seriously hurt if anything happened”
"So let me come along, I clearly beat you in a race so I can hold my ground. Are you calling me weak?"
"That's not what I meant"
"What did you mean then?"
Reigen claps his hands together finally deciding to cut in before his student destroys the whole church by exploding. When Mob struggles again YN interviens "What he's trying to say, Hana, this is a super top-secret mission"
"That makes me want to join more" She whines back.
"Which is another reason why you can't come along" This time puts a firmer face "Please?"
Hana and him have a staring competition which ends with Mob in tears.
Mob rubs his eye before his face goes back to normal
“You really care about this mission going well not to include me?”
“I think I do care if you get hurt, well anyone. I want to make sure we can race again and I'll beat you in a race”
Hana stops talking, Mob didn't know it was possible “Don't go saying stuff like that…!” She throws a water bottle from the side of the wheelchair with her red face and rolls away so fast Mob couldn't see if she turned left or right.
"Okay.....Well Reigen" YN says folding her arms "Would you like to enlighten us on what we're supposed to do"
Reigen just snickers "Ah Mob I always knew you had a thing with that Teru kid but I didn't know you were a ladies' man"
Mob looks at Reigen like he wants to both go into a shell and strangle Reigen for saying anything.
"Oh right, okay listen up team. While you guys were slaking off" Mob looks at Reigen again who coughs "I might have found something. Remember the nun that hired us?"
"What about her?"
"She started making grammatical mistakes but not the normal kind" He says lowering his voice like he was revealing a grand conspiracy.
"Uh-huh" YN replies unimpressed "And how does this help?"
"Just wait!" Reigen says holding up a finger "I was walking around and got hungry so I ate my jelly—"
"Of course you were" YN muttered.
Reigen quickly grabs her arm to stop her from walking away "Listen there's more! Her eyes. There was definitely something in them"
"—And I saw her walking around. I was about to ask her something before she just stopped walking"
"What a weirdo" Dimple says, YN swats him "Shh"
"Anyways she just looked at my hand and walked away even after I called after her. I might have pissed her off"
"Oh gosh what did you do"
"I might have touched her shoulder that was sticky with jelly juice?"
YN groans "Great, so we have a nun that's pissed at you because you touched her shoulder with sticky jelly juice. Let's just go apologize and get this over with"
Mob nods understanding what's going to happen calmly.
"Like conjunctivitis?" YN replies, confused about the relevance.
"Like something swimming in them, she apologized later but something's definitely up"
YN lets out a sigh "So what's the plan?"
"I'm working on it" He replies, clearly winging it.
-
Back in the mini cabin near the church Sister Sana rented out for them, YN took a step outside to take a breather.
After all, she was going to talk to her tommorow.
She hears someone open the balcony door and sit next to her “You okay?” It's Reigen.
“Why wouldn't I be”
“You're staring at a dead lizard”
“Well go ahead and ask”
“That I am..” She watches a group of red ants slowly but uniformly make their way to the dead lizard .”What else can I do to mentally prepare myself to talk with a maybe possessed nun?"
“I'm not the best at comfort but-”
“It's nothing, I mean now that I say nothing it has to be something” YN looks at Reigen like he’s about to walk away the moment she speaks when he won't, Reigen just grabs a bag of chips and opens it for both of them to share “We got all night”
“I don't want to keep you up though”
“You won't, I forget it's not good to smoke before sleeping plus” A soft gust of wind blows in the air, it smells like trash but they don't move “Mob’s sleeping and coping somehow…I wanted to kill time quietly” He wiggles his leg over the balcony “Any hot gossip?”
“Like I have drama in my life” She scoffs “You know what. Talk about yourself, the exorcism thing I saw that day, was the only ‘dramatic’ thing that happened in my life”
"Okay let me think" She looks at Reigen for a moment "I never came around to ask but do you have hearing aids now?"
"Oh you noticed" He says playing with his hearing aid on his left ear "I've had it for over a year"
"What happened?"
"Some explosion, I'm lucky I'm only deaf in my left ear. Somehow my right side is completely fine"
"Thats good- Wait a minute, explosion? Are you referring to the terrorist attack with the whole broccoli?"
"Uhm hehe" He coughs into his hands "Okay next question"
Choke.
YN stares him down before giving up “How did you and Mob meet?”
He thinks for a moment, and smiles fondly “Well I and Mob have been together for a long time, we met when I was about to close the shop. Sometimes I think he’s an angel like I believe in. But in a way, he’s made me a better person”
“Really? Well you have always been a good person, to me at least”
Look.
Swallow.
Realize that was gross.
That was what Reigen did in that specific order.
YN quickly hands him water, he wipes his mouth looking away before saying anything more because he could implode at any moment “You…I haven't been the best, trust me. He could turn an angel into a better person"
YN suddenly feels her heart relax after a couple of minutes of silence.
“Yes YN, one hundred times seriously”
“This has to be my favorite way to spend my yearly break” Thinking about it more, it seems a little depressing she adds “Usually I just wallow in my bed or work part-time jobs”
“That sounds hard”
“Eh, it pays bills”
“Don't you have friends”
“Of course I do” Reigen says confidently while sweating.
“Well, do you?”
“Well…If you ever feel- I don't know, feel bored? I don't know, I'm bored. You can visit us and watch Mob do his psychic stuff”
YN looks at him, Reigen sees something in YN's eye, and it's definitely not conjuntivities “Are you serious?”
He sees stars and answers her “Serious for reals”
“Serious serious?” Her heartbeat quickens, is he doing it out of pity?
“No seriously I don't want to—” She doesn't actually care because Mob is cool but is so unsure.
Reigen shoves her to the side gently with his elbow “Tagging along doesn't really distract Mob, to be honest. He likes showing off a little, little rascal and keeps getting more confident by the day. With you around, he could even get better and learn new tricks”
“You think so?”
“You question my judgment a lot”
“I mean…” YN laughs, she misses him. His hair looks like it never aged, she can’t stop smiling so she turns away to look at something else “Nevermind, thank you. I’m happy to be with you again”
Mob’s silent snores can be heard from the room, it must be getting cold in there considering they left the balcony door open. Reigen suddenly seems to change in demeanor, “YN, can I be frank”
Well, that was sudden “Uhmm, sure?”
“Why did…” He wanted to say it, yell it “You did not change your clothes? You've been in those disgusting things the whole day, you might wake Mob up from the smell”
She was already making her way to the shower room.
YN faltered backward on her palms face changing from nervous, to shyly pissed.
“W-what? I already took a shower asshole, there's a drain below us. When did you get so rude,”
Reigen raises his hands to the side “Well, sorry if I can't stand to smell your stench” YN will have to hold her punch for another day.
“I…am going to sleep, you should take a shower….you’re shoulder kinda smells like rotten milk”
“What?!”
Reigen sniffed himself, he does kinda smell like it.
He has a faint smile on his lips as he replays the conversation that they just had, which for some reason kept him in a dream-like trance as he stares of into the distance.
-
The next day YN wants to chicken out when she reaches the hall but Reigen just shoves her in and leaves with a thumbs up.
Talk about an asshole.
She slowly enters the main hall, nervous, and notices someone arguing "Lead...you'll...fine"
Something falls and suddenly Sister Sana appears, her face looking paler and paler.
Like a rotting corpse.
"Uh, Sister Sana are you feeling well?"
She just stands at the doorway, her hands twitching.
Sister Sana kept stepping back until YN stopped her holding her shoulders to stop her, that might have been a bad idea because her hands tingled, and feels a shiver up her spine like something was crawling up her back.
"No fine, you want to come in?"
"Yeah no worries I'll help if needed" Before she actually goes in she steps forward reluctantly making YN take a step back.
YN signals to Reigen and Mob.
Mob emerges and yanks YN's body away.
She stumbles before finding her footing and rushing over to Reigen "What the plan?!"
YN blinks trying to keep up "An opening for what?"
Reigen, who was hiding behind a chair, yanks YN down before she could get hit with any of the ruble that were being thrown around by Mob "Funny thing, I don't" He looks over to the side before YN could lecture him "We could play conga with her"
"I swear to God if you're making a joke right now" YN is so close to strangling him.
"Wait, shut up and listen!" He cuts her off frantically "She’s not moving much, just standing in one spot. That gives us an opening"
He points to the ropes that hang on the sides of the curtains "You grab the left and I'll grab the right and on my mark throw it to me ’ll soak it in the holy water I—acquired—from a very reliable source, and then we’ll give her a good old-fashioned holy Molotov with wet ropes"
YN stares, torn between bewilderment and the urge to smack him.
She nods her head and makes it toward the other side of the room.
He could have exploded her arm, inflate it a little, Mob thinks - but he couldn't go with the plan, throughout this whole fight he’s just trying to leave as little damage to the church and try not to hurt her and the building too much.
“YN?!” Reigen shouts from the other end when Mob takes a longer time to get up.
“I’m working on it, give me a minute shit” Her hands still knotting the ropes, and sister Sana slams her hand on Mob who gets up and deflects it.
YN throws Reigen the rope she’s tied from the curtains, all that scout training was useful in the end.
Once that was done she ran and called for Reigen “Catch!” She throws the ball through her chest at him, he grabs it. Mob, who is still blocking the majority of the attacks is faltering “Mob jump!” He jumps and YN and Reigen run through her with the rope making her fall.
She's knocked out.
so much for leaving as little damage.
"Mob! Reigen are you" His hands are scratched when he gets up "Yup I'm fine, ouch" YN grabs him and runs to hide behind a box "Are you okay?"
"I'm...I think I should be fine- Shit you're bleeding" He has to hold her a little "Am I? Ow...Where's Mob? ow" She says moving her head to look for him but the more she moves the more the headache builds.
As if on cue Mob emerges from the ruble and Reigen grabs YN carefully in case he jostles her too much "Shit he might lose control, YN I-"
"Don't get mad"
"Mad why would I-"
YN whips out holy salt that was acquired from one of Reigens notorious rivals.
-
He would throw a tantrum if not for the situation, he thinks for a moment thinking of a solution before speaking "There are kids in the other building, you need to move them out of here to the playground or something in case it collapses" He quickly instructs her.
She nods immediately and hands the salt to him "Goodluck"
When she said she wanted excitement, she did not mean trying to save kids from an almost collapsing church.
The kitchen with all of the children was the opposite of what she expected considering the ruble and stuff, they seemed to be enjoying it.
That was before a large chunk of the ceiling almost squashed a kid.
"Children I've come to rescue you so if you all could just not-"
"The end of the world is here, the priest did always say God hated orphans, we're all orphans!" The girl who almost got squashed yells out, what do they teach orphans?
"...Scream, single file I need at least twenty of your short heads to go. Now!"
YN grabs the little kids and alerts the other nuns and workers in the building to grab the infants.
"Nineteen...Who else is" She looks around the room to hear the lack of a nagging voice "Oh God, Hana?! Is Hana here?" Everyone looks around in a blurred motion, all too shaken up.
YN quickly rushes back inside the building.
"Hana?! Hana-" YN hears a faint voice, and she runs towards it.
"Why are you even here?" YN says frustrated as she carries her out of the building, the ground shakes again.
She shouts again, it's like playing marco polo before YN sees her wheelchair tipped sideways on the floor with scratches on her arm "Are you okay?"
Hana looks up giving her a hopeful look before quickly switching her personality "My entire arm hurts but I found out about the super evil sister nun that I didn't know about, talk about a plot twist with no build-up"
She takes that as a yes.
"Well, I sort of didn't listen to Mob and spied around a little and found out some stuff" YN is too worried to get mad before she remembers "Jelly?"
She sets Hana down and looks back to the scene where everything is happening.
The aura thickens for a moment and a burst of light shines through that no one can seem to see.
YN quickly rushes back to the building to only see Reigen beside Mob asking if he's okay and a tied-up nun with salt in her hair.
She thinks she heard Reigen cuss out a small "Damn that bastard makes some good holy salt"
Reigen and Mob notice her and wave her down.
'Damn It, I missed all the good fighting stuff"
YN rushes towards them kneeling to check on Mob, he seemed alright and she ruffled his hair with a relieved smile.
Then she checks on Reigen whose face is scratched up, she punches him lightly "How the hell are we going to explain to the authority that we visited my 'mom' and accidentally destroyed a building?"
"The authorities?" Reigen echoed, wincing as he touched one of the scratches on his face.
"That little stunt caused a mini earthquake, did you guys know that Hana somehow helped us indirectly?" She replies half amused and half annoyed.
"Uhm no? Maybe this spirit hates it, but it's pretty odd for a spirit to reveal itself as she did. It looked like she was so repulsed by it, which is weird considering she kills cats - she's pretty stupid"
"Huh?" Sweet Mob asks "I told her not to help"
"Well she did, apparently our little spirit here hates jelly- Hey dimple, do you hate jelly?"
Mob tugs on YN's shirt gently "I can fix the building" Before she could reply, the building was repairing itself.
YN would faint if not for the fact they still needed to deal with Sister Sana being tied up on the floor.
"But you have the wr-"
Speaking of the 'devil' she stirs awake seemingly unaware of what happened "W-why am, please its all a misunderstanding"
Reigen glooms over her "Sure it is lady, you called us and got us looking but you didn't think we would find you, HAH"
Reigen stepped forward, trying to remain nonchallant to explain the situation to the priest who was still confused "It's not, well it kind of is but you need to be-"
The priest rushes in a panic "Are you guys alright?! I just saw the children outside, I was just visiting neighbors before I felt the earthquake hit- Why is sister Sana tied up in a ring of salt, please tell me this isn't a ritualistic-"
There is a very pregnant silence between everyone, thank God the building was fixed before he rushed in.
Sister Sana struggles with her bounds, her face losing color and her face looking fainter as the second goes on.
The priest notices and rushes to aid, face filled with only urgency.
She shakes her head and looks over to YN "Please you've got it all wrong"
The three of them—YN, Reigen, and Mob—could only stand there, frozen in their awkwardness. YN couldn't help but think, Why isn't he throwing her to jail or something? Or at least tell the police about it, but maybe since they're in a church he's being forgiving.
He takes a deep sigh, Sana continues to struggle "I forgive you, Sana"
"What? N-no, you-"
He kneels down to her level "I said I forgive you, sister, in these trying times I feel like we could resort to anything" Sana struggles on her bounds but stops when the priest holds her hands remorsefully while looking down "Relax, you don't have to worry anymore" She falls limp in his arms "I'll protect you"
But for real, this woman has probably killed so many cats and people.
Then again, if he forgives her, it's whatever.
The three of them can only stand awkwardly watching the ordeal.
"There is no place for an exorcist in this place but...On this very special occasion, I guess I could let it slide, just this once. I heard you helped with the orphans YN and Reigen, thank you"
"It's no problem" Reigen replied quickly forcing a smile.
The priest ponders for a second "I must say, I'm surprised the building looks almost brand new considering the children said the building was falling and Hana's scratches" He side-eyes them, clearly skeptical.
Mob nods furiously at this.
They all laugh nervously at this, YN cleared her throat "About that, there was an earthquake that caused-"
"A huge one!" Reigen interrupts, a little too loud.
The priest nods and looks at sister Sana's limp body on his lap before he scratches his arm once more before appearing calmer.
He winks at them "Don't worry I'll keep your secret" He gently picks up sister Sana "I think I'll take it from here, just make sure the children are okay before sneaking out, alert an ambulance if you can"
YN doesn't fail to notice the increased red blotches on the priest's robe, seemingly getting bigger "Are you okay though Pastor?"
The priest's expression twisted for a fleeting moment into something like fear before he quickly shook his head, smiling again "Must have been from the earthquake, the stitches must have opened up again" He takes a breath "I'll handle the authorities, in the meantime, I think you children should skadalde out of here - I'm sure the police won't do well when they hear someone didn't go visit their grandmother's place"
"How did you-"
"A friendly cop was sobbing holding a bush knocking on everyone's door because 'a blond man and his partner are visiting someone who has cancer' so I'm guessing my wild guess is correct?"
YN gapes at this, the sides of her mouth twitching "Spot on.."
They nod without making a fuss, Reigen sends a bird to call the paramedics to the room to alert them before leaving.
As they make an exit to the back door YN feels something creep up on the back of her neck, she rubs it to check before shrilling silently.
Reigen turned towards her trying to shush her before he shrilled with her, only he wasn't as quiet as her.
"Oh my god Mob do something, it so ew, ew ew ew ew!"
She frantically slaps her neck, feeling it crawling "Get it off! Get it off!"
Mob calmly removes the centipede, gently plucking it from her neck, as it floats the dread in YN's face only grows "Is that a—?"
"Gross it's a centipede," Dimple says with a disgusted expression before slurping the offending creature "There, problem solved"
Mob looks at Dimple with horror "Dimple, that's disgusting"
YN looked like she was about to faint while Reigen was leaning on a tree to try not to.
While the adults who seemed to be on the verge of a full mental breakdown over a bug, Mob and Dimple navigate the two to a secluded area to pull themselves together before slipping past security to the nearest train station.
"Close, but it's to always collect your deposit!"
Reigen heaves a breath and looks at Mob "So Mobbu, what have you learned from today's job?"
Mob thought for a moment, expression serious "Not to trust nuns"

The ride home is surprisingly relaxing after everything that went down.
Well, it's mostly because everyone was tired.
YN looks out the train's window to enjoy the view while she can, there's only so many things you can look at in a city “I can't believe I used my weekend for this, I'm going to be so behind at work”
“You sure have a lot to be worrying about on a weekend” Reigen says opening his onigiri he got at FamilyMart.
“Yeah, it sucks balls” She agrees but then shakes her head “But actually scratch that, I don't think I would have a better use of it”
“I mean what would you do, if not for work?”
“I don't know, maybe catch up on a show and write-” Oh she let that slip out.
He wishes he could have said goodbye to Hana, YN reassured him that she was fine with minor scratches.
“You write?"
“Well not really, it's just something I do in my free time”
“Oh well, I hope it goes well. I tried writing a book once" He swats his hand raising his brows "Did not go well”
“He made mob write the whole thing”
“Dimple!”
“You what?”
“Well….it was uhm…you see….”
“Mrs.YN it was kinda fun actually so I didn't mind all that much” Mob defends.
“You trying to make him your slave? Mob if this bad man hurts you, I won’t hesitate-”
“I am not abusing my power! I even give the kid extra pork slices-”
“Sure you do”
Mob just leans on YN’s shoulder blushing as Reigen and her argue, Dimple seemingly also feeling tired rested on Mob's lap.
Mob also notices that YN tends to move more when she smiles similarly to Reigen when he gets money from customers, is she happy now?
He hopes she can be happy.
YN smiles and rests her hands on her chin, the scenery outside is nice.
She should do this more often.
-
They all reach home, Mob agrees to do another job which in return for a raise and a week off work.
“Weird that we both beat up a nun?” He jokes.
They somehow ended up talking about their moms when Reigen made a 'Your Mom' joke “Yeah, I don't live with her anymore. What about your mom?” YN says.
“Pretty much the same, don't talk to her much these days”
“We have that in common, it's weird”
“Weird that I can speak to you again” YN says seriously.
Reigen is a little shocked about this but relaxes “Yeah, I guess”
“Come along with me then” YN feels like he's trapped even though he isn't holding her.
Reigen looks at his watch, it's only 4:30 in the afternoon so he grows some balls and asks “Are you bored?”
YN checks her phone, she left Sherman with her boss at the library and is only supposed to pick him up in late evening “Yeah I guess, I have another day off"
She steps forward, Mob is buying a snack with Dimple.
"What? Come where?"
"Anywhere" He hovered her hand as if he was asking for permission - YN wasn't sure if he pitied her, but right now.
This was Reigen, asking for her hand.
Someone wants her company.
She grabs him back, gripping him tighter.
Her heart burns.
It hasn't burnt in a long time.
"Anywhere.." with you "sounds nice"
She lets them go after, but the smiles never leave their faces that day.

Reader and Reigen get locked in a closet during a job gone wrong, and Reigen doesn't know how to behave. (inspired loosely by @vasiktomis's fic)

Reigen isn’t in the habit of taking solo jobs he can't handle alone. Not anymore, anyway,
He's learned that, quite understandably, no one can be reasonably expected to just drop what they’re doing to serve his whim when he finds himself facing a threat bigger than the boots that he places himself in sometimes. Nowadays, he sticks to what he knows and picks the work that's least likely to result in an untimely death. Without any psychic abilities of his own, Reigen tends to go for the less spiritually-inclined call outs.
When he'd taken this job, he had assumed it to be one of those times.
The client, Kawasaki, had bemoaned a supposed ghostly presence lingering in a rundown property of his, causing damage and defacing the place, and stopping him from renovating the house for new tenants. As loath as Reigen had been to help a landlord, the price of the job had been decent enough to convince him otherwise and so he had taken it on.
Kawasaki’s description during his consultation had sounded like nothing more than squatters or trespassing teenagers looking for somewhere quiet to make out. Serizawa had agreed; broken locks, leftover beer cans and abandoned trash aren’t common signs of spirits and so Reigen had thought little of attending without any psychic backup. If he can manage without Mob or Serizawa, he will. They’re both busy enough, it wouldn’t do to drag them away from their studies or their friends for no reason. Besides, Reigen is confident enough in his own ability to handle things, for better or worse.
Still, he isn’t dense enough to wander into an abandoned den filled with potentially unfriendly squatters and disgusting creepy-crawlies all on his lonesome. Reigen can be stupid, but he’s not dumb. Instead, he had requested (see: demanded) the help of the only other person in the office he knows rarely has anywhere else to be: You.
He’s well aware that you don’t have much going on outside of working hours and you’re usually moderately willing to stretch your legs a bit when the day has been slow. A person can only stand to look at paperwork for so many hours a day, he supposes.
When you’d asked why, exactly, he needed you of all people to join him, Reigen had been blunt: “I’d rather not get stabbed over a property dispute, if that’s alright with you. Plus, I need someone to keep an eye out for roaches.”
According to his expert assessment, the work would be simple: Get in, sweet talk the people inside into moving along, and collect the fee.
Except, as is often the case, nothing Reigen ever does is simple.
When the two of you arrive, the building is empty. There isn’t a single sign of life nor death inside the entire house and he isn't really that surprised. The place is absolutely rotten. Dirty wallpaper peels from place, the once rich-looking wooden fixtures are soft and stained a gross green colour, their usual glossy surfaces dull and sickly, and the interior is so degraded that he's not sure how the landlord intends to salvage the place, regardless of damage done by potential unwelcome visitors.
Sleeping on the street would be preferable to staying here.
“So much for squatters,” he hears you mutter, the beam of your flashlight swinging around the room. It skims from tattered floorboards to broken down shelving, circuiting the room as you turn on the spot in search of the client’s woes.
“Maybe they left,” Reigen says, peering into a side room. “Makes our job easier anyway.”
“I wouldn’t hang around here, I know that much,” you sigh.
“Why?” Reigen smirks. “Not scared, are you?” He can never pass up on an opportunity to provoke you. You’re always a breeze to wind up and Reigen would be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy watching your hackles rise. He’s proficient in the art of being a dick, especially when it comes to you.
You roll your eyes at his attempt. “You wish. We should check upstairs at least, just to be sure.”
Reigen agrees, though in his ever chivalrous nature, he invites you to be the first one to brave the weak looking staircase. Each step you take up the rickety stairs is cautious, ensuring you won’t fall straight through the rotted wood and accidentally impale yourself on an exposed nail, and Reigen follows your footsteps perfectly.
It’s even darker up here. The windows are shuttered, boarded up tight beyond a few ripped out panels, and there doesn’t appear to be anyone hiding in the rooms; they’re equally as dilapidated as the ones downstairs. There are remnants of life in the house, though, besides the leftover trash: discarded boxes filled with long-abandoned books and menial belongings, old furniture and forgotten blankets, but they all appear to be as old as the home.
They’re covered in grime and clearly haven’t been touched much. The squatter theory looks weak without fresh signs of habitation, but there’s always the chance people are breaking in to snoop around.
Dust particles catch in the light beams of your torches as he takes you deeper inside, glittering and wispy, passing through the air like tiny little fairies uprooted from their hiding spots. Reigen swallows a sneeze and turns away from you, covering his nose and mouth with the sleeve of his jacket.
Dimly, he supposes he should have gotten masks for you both; the last thing he wants is a health and safety insurance claim on his hands if you inhale something gross. “If you see any asbestos, keep your distance,” he warns. “I’m not paying your hospital bill.”
“Thanks,” you reply, tone so dry it’s practically parched. “What does it look like?”
“No idea,” says Reigen, shrugging. “But don’t breathe it in.”
“Asshole.” He can almost hear you roll your eyes and he bites down on a grin.
The air is much cooler upstairs, icy enough to permeate Reigen’s suit and he suppresses a shiver as you follow his lead down a long hallway.
Despite his confidence in the office that the presence of a spirit here would be unlikely, he can’t help but feel nervous. Downstairs had been gross, but upstairs feels decidedly…. Unwelcoming in comparison. Like something is waiting for you both, hidden in the darkness and waiting to strike.
He knows it’s probably his imagination. This isn’t his first rodeo and usually a spirit makes itself known the moment he pokes around a bit. You’re just paranoid, Reigen thinks to himself, get a grip.
Your voice breaks through the silent air: “Can you feel that?” You whisper, coming up close behind him.
Anxiety rolls off of you in waves and Reigen can sense how tense you are even at a distance. He really ought to be a decent boss and offer some reassurance to the least experienced member of his team. You’re not usually the one who’s dragged into spooky places like this with little to no preparation; your expertise extends to paperwork and filing cabinets, and with no Esper abilities to speak of you’re completely exposed to danger. Reigen is too, he supposes, but he’s used to charging into unfriendly dens of danger without much care for his wellbeing.
He should be considerate and give you some warm words of comfort, offer to protect you if all hell breaks loose, yet he knows you’re not the type to cling to him like a frightened fawn and he’d only insult you if he suggested anything of the sort. Instead, he decides he’ll break the tension in a way that only he knows how.
He pauses at your front and you almost walk into the back of him, too busy looking behind you to pay attention. Reigen puts a hand out to keep you steady. “What do you mean?” He asks, glancing over his shoulder at you.
“I’m not sure,” you say, flicking your flashlight around in the darkness. “The air…. It feels heavy, don’t you think?”
Reigen hums and comes to stand behind you, swapping places and standing close enough that his chest bumps your back. “Actually, now that you mention it….”
Without a word, he reaches past you and motions for you to raise the flashlight a little, and you do as you’re asked, pointing it towards an empty room just off of the corridor. The beam is too weak to fully penetrate the darkness as you point it inside however, and the light barely makes a difference.
“What is it?” You whisper, craning your head around to see if you can spot whatever has caught his attention. The light is swallowed by the black expanse and it makes it seem as though the building is ten times as big as the distance you’ve just walked.
Reigen doesn’t answer your question.
The silence is deafening.
Reigen is so close to you that he can see the hairs rise on your arms in his own torchlight and he’s quite pleased when you lean away from where you’re pointing the light, pressing back against him unconsciously in order to distance yourself from whatever might lurk in the shadows. You might not be the sort of person that needs protecting, but he can’t deny that something stirs inside himself at the thought of you seeking him out for support anyway.
Nothing moves in the dark.
No one speaks a word.
It’s the most perfect set-up Reigen could imagine.
“Boo!”
His hands grab at your sides as he shouts right down your ear, as loud as he can manage. The scream you let loose is close to inhuman and in a pure panic, you lurch away from the source, scrambling aside until your shoulder collides hard against the wall. You swing your torch out violently in a feeble attempt to protect yourself from the unseen threat and Reigen dodges the heavy lump of metal, laughing his head off at his wonderfully successful prank.
The watery light lands on his doubled over form, collapsed against the opposing wall in a fit of ugly giggles, his body shaking with the force of it. He cackles at the terrified sight of you, hands still outstretched from where he’d seized your waist. “Your face!” Reigen gasps, struggling to breathe through his fits. “Man, you’re too easy!”
It doesn’t take a genius to see that you’re very admirably restraining yourself from throwing the torch at his head. You look like you’ve had the fear of God put in you, face paling and eyes wide, clutching at the ruined walls like a cartoon cat on the ceiling. The big grin that splits Reigen’s smug face suggests he’s overjoyed that he’s gotten such a reaction from you; he always is.
Furious, you lash out with one foot to kick at his shin. “Fuck off!” you hiss, breathless with fright. “Fucking asshole!”
Still laughing, Reigen nimbly avoids your attempted assault again. He looks far too pleased with himself and as soon as you can breathe again, you flounce off down the hallway and make your way back towards the staircase, leaving him pitched against the doorframe whilst he tries to get his breath back.
The darkness clearly doesn’t seem as frightening to you now that it’s clear the biggest threat in here is your jerk of a boss and you stride back the way you came, ignoring Reigen’s half-hearted shouts for you to wait. He won’t let you get too far without him. Although the house is empty, it’s still run down and dodgy as fuck. The last thing he wants is for you to be so angry with him that you fall down the stairs or cut yourself escaping his mean spirited jokes.
“Wait a second!” Reigen shouts, still struggling to sound completely serious. He scrambles after you, following the sound of your heavy footsteps as you stomp back the way you’d come.
“It’s not funny,” you snap over your shoulder. “Get lost. You can go-!” Your sentences halts halfway through, cut off almost comically, and Reigen is mildly disappointed that you’re not throwing rabid insults his way.
“C’mon,” Reigen cajoles, pushing his luck as he rounds the corner to the landing. “Don’t be like that, I thought you could take a joke!” He’s still got a stupid grin on his face as he comes closer and he takes a breath to say something else when abruptly he realises you’re standing stock still in place.
You look even more terrified than you had moments earlier and briefly, Reigen worries he might have caused permanent trauma “What is it?” Reigen asks, suddenly sounding a lot less jovial. “I didn’t scare you that badly, did I?”
At the foot of the staircase, the floorboards squeak and a foreign voice speaks aloud into the damp air: “I thought it was funny.”
He freezes mid-step, one foot suspended in the air. The voice doesn’t belong to anyone he recognises and judging by the look on your face, it doesn’t belong to anyone you know either. A cold and unpleasant sensation slides down the back of his neck, like a fat droplet of ice water trickling along his skin. The heavy, dense atmosphere is back, even worse than it had been when you’d first come up here.
Cautiously, like he’s afraid the room might explode, Reigen edges toward where you’re standing. You don’t look at him at all, eyes fixed on whatever has spoken at the foot of the staircase, and it makes Reigen’s blood run cold again. Very slowly, he ekes his flashlight up from where it points at the floor to join yours and shines it’s weak beam towards the source of the sound. It illuminates the bottom most stair and as he raises it higher and higher, the form of an impossibly black figure reveals itself.
It’s vaguely human shaped, except the limbs are longer than they should be and they’re bent at uncomfortable angles, like it’s stuffed into the space it crouches in. The thing is big enough that it takes up the entire doorway at the foot of the stairs and it seems to almost absorb the light of the torch, watching the two of you closely with a featureless face. No, not quite totally featureless. Rather than have eyes or a nose, or any other defining characteristic, It has a big, horrible smile, made up of crooked teeth that peek out from behind non-existent lips.
Reigen hears your breathing hitch in fear and this time, his responsible boss attitude does take over. He curls a hand around your wrist and inches in front of you, sheltering your body with his. The spirit is big. Bigger than the usual ones he faces off against. With only a bag of salt in his pocket and a hopeful prayer in his heart, Reigen knows he’s limited in options on how to deal with this. There’s no Mob and no Serizawa to back him up. He’s on his own for this one and he really doesn’t want to give you the impression that he can’t handle things by himself.
Maybe he can use the only trusty weapon he has in his arsenal: His mouth. Reigen holds his free hand up in an innocent gesture. “Sorry,” he says, plastering on a fake smile. “Didn’t mean to disturb you. We were just, uh, exploring….”
The spirit makes a sound of disgust, like two rusty metal sheets rubbing together, and it begins to crawl up the stairs, inch by inch. “Exploring each other, more like. Why is it always my house you kids come to fuck in?”
Reigen chokes on his tongue, his face burning. “Hey, come on, it’s not like that!”
“Of course you are, you’re all the same.” The spirit’s mouth draws back into an impossibly wider grin. “Why can’t you just get handsy in the car like everyone else?”
“Fuck off,” you snap, though your voice is weak. “No one’s coming to this shit hole to have sex.”
The spirit’s grin turns downward into a furious scowl and Reigen barely predicts what’s about to happen in enough time to yank you away from harm. The grotesque creature launches itself upward, its long limbs allowing it the capacity to make short work of the remaining stairs, and it lunges straight for the both of you with a snarling shout of indignance at your insult of its home.
Reigen manages a shout of warning before he yanks you aside, grabbing your hand in a bruising grip, and he pulls you out of the thing’s path with all the strength he can muster. You have the good sense to let him manhandle you across the landing, abandoning your torch in favour of hanging onto him, and you stagger alongside towards the hallway again.
The creature crashes against the wall at the top of the stairs, the force of its strike knocking over the old furniture that’s been discarded there to grow mouldy and old. The wood crunches horribly on impact and Reigen is always impressed by the way spirits, for such non-corporeal beings, manage incredible ways of destroying their far more material environments with ease. Right now, however, he’d rather not go the same way as that chest of drawers. He doesn’t plan on dying in a place like this and there’s no way he’s about to let you meet a grisly end either. He’s far too fond of you for that.
The spirit has the stairs cornered, which leaves little else in the way of an escape route. Reigen has no choice but to take you deeper into the house and hope to lead the thing around in a circle to free up the stairway. Barrelling down the corridor, Reigen is running blind. He realises he must have dropped his flashlight in the chaos, too, because everything in the house is so incredibly dark that he feels like there’s a bag over his head. It’s almost impossible for him to see where he’s going, there’s no way he’ll be able to get his bearings well enough to loop the property like this.
That is, until a sliver of light from another room catches his eye. Reigen pivots on his heel at breakneck speed and heaves you sideways with him through the open doorway, ever the nimble little weasel. He slams the door shut behind you and scans the room for a hiding place, breathing hard and keeping a tight, sweaty hold of your hand.
“What do we do?!” You gasp, out of breath from both the running and the fear. “We can’t get out, what do we-!”
“In there!” Reigen points across the dim room. On the far side past a broken down bed and several piles of boxes and filthy duvets, there’s a slim little closet. It’s the only thing in here that seems to still be whole and mercifully preserved from the rot that’s infected the rest of the building. It’s the best bet either of you will have at staying hidden.
Reigen doesn’t wait for you to answer. Instead, he lugs you towards it and wrenches open the doors, tumbling inside. Reigen’s back hits the wall as he flattens himself against the interior, his body folding awkwardly in order to fit into the cramped, tight space, and he hauls you in after him. You’re all elbows and knees as you land on him, scrabbling for purchase in a panic, and your body shoves at his while you try and find your balance in the darkness.
He pushes you against the opposing side, his hands clutching your waist to stop you from wobbling and falling right back out into the open, and his legs tangle up between both of yours. By some stroke of good fortune, you have the presence of mind to snatch the doors shut after yourself. They close with a mercifully quiet click! and then it’s just the two of you, panting hard and fast into the dimness as you listen for signs of your undead pursuer.
Several somethings clatter around in the hallway, followed by the sound of breaking glass and a frustrated growl, and Reigen strains to hear if the sounds are moving any closer to the bedroom you’re sheltering in.
After a few long moments, however, nothing comes.
Reigen breathes a silent sigh of relief and then feels you shift in place. You’re virtually painted onto his front, your chest squashed against his own and your face not even half an inch away from his. It dawns on him that this is quite the intimate position to be in with a person he’s supposed to be in charge of, and he feels the cool sweat of adrenaline turn into lukewarm awkwardness.
You tilt your head a fraction to give yourself a bit of room to speak and your lips brush up against his cheek. “What were you thinking?!” you scold him in barely a whisper.
“Huh?” Reigen murmurs back, trying to ignore the sensation.
“We’re sitting ducks in here,” you breathe. “If that fucking thing finds us, we’re dead!”
He hadn’t really considered that. The closet is tiny and dark, only a tiny filtering of pale light from a broken window board across the room reaches through the thin slats sitting just above your heads. It smells like dank old oak and probably a few different cultures of microorganisms. The only thing there’s room for in here is mould and dust. Neither he nor you will be able to escape if the spirit figures out where you’re hiding.
“Just shut up,” Reigen mutters, flexing his hands on your waist. “Stay quiet until it gets bored and then we can sneak out.” It’s a weak plan, but it’s all he has right now.
A few rooms over, something crashes against a wall and you flinch against him.
Reigen can feel the warmth of your body seeping into his own through your clothes, your breasts brushing the front of his shirt, your hips locked with his own. Your arms are forced almost around one another, both of you clinging to the other’s sides. Perhaps it’s the excitement of the chase, or maybe the thrill of escaping yet another near-death situation, but Reigen’s blood feels like it’s catching alight. He’s warming up all over, perspiration beading at his temples, and he isn’t quite sure how to stop it. Were he to purse his lips, he might even accidentally kiss you.
Reigen is technically in charge of you. It’s well known in the office that all of you work side-by-side, however on the paperwork side of things, he is legally your superior. He’s supposed to uphold a certain air of respectability around his colleagues yet when it comes to you, he finds that responsibility getting more difficult by the day. You argue back and forth with him, always ready to challenge his overpowering confidence when it starts to get out of hand, and he can tell you enjoy the verbal sparring as much as he does.
There’s something unsaid between you both, something heavy that’s only been building over time, but Reigen is too afraid to drop his façade of being The Boss Of You to investigate it further in case he’s read the entire situation wrong. If you were to refuse him, to laugh in his face, he'd never live it down. He couldn't handle such a dent in his ego and he'd rather die than admit it aloud.
He does his best to hide it when he chances little looks at you and so far he’s only been caught out on his less-than-professional observations once, by Ekubo. Horrible little fiend that the ghost is, he’d caught Reigen sneaking a peek at your ass as you’d cleaned a cupboard in the staffroom, chatting away to him and none the wiser of his perverseness; you’d been on your hands and knees, half disappeared into the space under the sink, and Reigen had seized the opportunity to drink in a spectacular view of you from behind.
Your skirt had risen ever so slightly too high, revealing the top of your stockings and the thin sliver of the clips that held the fabric in place, and Reigen had lurked silently in the doorway, watching closely and committing the sight to memory.
Until, of course, Ekubo had materialised out of thin air, as he is so often wont to do, grinning lasciviously, and scared the shit out of Reigen so badly that he’d almost tumbled backwards out of the room. Despite the rude interruption, he’s never forgotten the sight.
Reigen knows it's wrong, that it's fucked up that he'd view a staff member, a friend, like that, and yet he's never had the willpower to put a stop to it. Images of you in raunchy positions just like on that day have haunted his mind on late, lonely nights whilst his hand has wandered into the waistband of his underwear of its own accord.
He’s fully aware that he shouldn’t be jerking himself off every night thinking of you stuck under the sink, unable to get away from his curious hands, but he can’t ever feel guilty enough to think of anything else.
Right now, he wishes he'd at least tried. The memories of those imagined scenarios are stirred up by your closeness and he thinks, distantly, that if he'd tried to be a good person for once and made an effort to ignore them then he might not be struggling as much as he is currently. He’s never intended for you to find out about his fantasies and getting caught short like this is probably not going to go down well. He needs to stop thinking about all of this before it gets out of hand.
The sound of floorboards groaning out in the hallway outside makes you startle and you squirm between his legs, straining to look through the slats of the door. One of your thighs rubs up into his crotch, sleek material gliding against his suit, and he’s reminded that you’re wearing another skirt today; the smoothness of your legs means you’re more than likely in stockings again and the memory rears its head. Reigen grunts softly, gritting his teeth. “Stop it,” he grinds out quietly. “Quit moving.”
Much to his distress, you don't. Rather than obey his command, you use his body to push yourself further up to peek out of the slats and Reigen is forced to tighten his hold around your middle, dragging you back down. If you won't stop, he's going to have to make you. He digs his fingers into your side, bunching them up in the fabric of your shirt and pulling it downward to still you.
“Let go of me, you idiot,” you hiss, attempting to pry off his grip and straighten up. “I can't see!”
Reigen is sure you don’t intend to do it but the motion of your movement forces your hips to rock forward into his and he bites down on his lip so hard that he thinks he's drawn blood. He attempts to move away again, only to bump his knees against the wall under you. Reigen sucks in a sharp breath, ready to snap at you again to force you to back off, until the door to the room you're in bursts open like a group of police officers exercising a warrant. It slams against the wall loudly, the whole thing vibrating with the force. Nose to nose with him, you share a look of panic.
Something lets out a rattle of breath outside.
Reigen leans his head aside to press his mouth against your ear. “Don’t fucking move,” he says, barely audible, and he does his best not to notice the way you tilt your own head to let him fit in closer. His breath is hot against your skin and if he isn’t mistaken, you might even shiver a little.
The creature outside prowls into the bedroom, grunting and growling to itself as it searches between littered furniture for the two stowaways. Its nails scrape on the floorboards, the sound getting louder and louder until it pauses, right outside the closet. There’s a chittering noise that reverberates in Reigen’s chest and just beyond the wood, barely a hands-width away from your heads, the spirit sniffs up and down the seam of the closet. It sounds like there’s something wet caught in its throat, each draw of breath a phlegm filled rattle, and it scratches its claws on the door, seeking out any living forms within.
The spirit smells foul. Its scent is somewhere between death and rancid meat, and Reigen swallows against the saliva that rises and swims in his mouth, trying not to gag. The freezing air on its dead breath ruffles the hair at the tops of your heads and washes you both with the scent.
A swaying cobra, its form moves across the light that filters into the cupboard, turning it murky and dark but not quite removing it entirely, almost as though it’s trying to peer inside despite its lack of eyes. After a few minutes of unbearably intense silence, the spirit seems to give up on sniffing you out. It lashes out at the closet doors with its talons, tearing into the surface of the wood, before turning tail and lurching out of the room to continue its search elsewhere.
The aggressive swipe it takes at the closet makes the whole thing rattle loudly, bouncing the doors inward with force, and you jolt as though you’ve been hit. Instinctively, Reigen turns his head to check that you’re not hurt and at the same time, you turn yourself into him even more, afraid of the thing lurking outside. In the tight space, with barely even enough room to breathe, the motion forces your mouths to slot together. It can hardly be called a kiss; you’re doing little more than exchanging oxygen with one another, yet it’s so close to one that Reigen’s body betrays him almost instantly.
On your breath, he can smell the sugary strawberries you’d eaten on the way over here and again his mind conjures images, unbidden, of your lips wrapped around the fruit’s soft flesh as you’d eaten them in the passenger seat of the hire car, of the smile on your face when he handed them over; a bribe from a stopover at a gas station to stop your complaints about the long drive and an entirely selfish gesture on his part, purely for the reward of your attention (and perhaps, too, for the guilty pleasure of watching you lick your fingers clean when you’d finished).
The thought reignites the heat in his body and almost instantly, all of the blood in his brain sinks to his crotch. Reigen gets hard so quickly that he almost passes out. He isn’t sure where he finds the resolve, but somehow he manages to hold back the tiny little groan that threatens to spill from his throat, instead breathing in sharply through his nose at the sensation. Reigen’s eyes flutter shut momentarily, both in pleasure and in anticipatory fear of the look on your face.
He knows you must have noticed; his suit fabric is cheap and thin, barely a barrier to hide behind, and with your own legs exposed by your skirt there’s no way you could miss it. The weak light allows him to make out that you glance down and then back up to him.
Embarrassment burns on his face.
“It’s my cell phone,” Reigen lies without hesitation, defending his pride before you can even begin to question it. “Don’t flatter yourself.” He knows better than to throw out an insult to protect his own decency, however he’s starting to panic a little more than a seasoned sleuth should be and it has nothing to do with a ghostly presence.
You clear your throat softly and nod, looking away. The smirk on your face only makes his cheeks burn more; you’ll never let this go if he doesn’t act fast and distract you. “Look, we need to make a run for it while we still have the chance,” Reigen says quietly, trying to will away his arousal as best he can. “We open the doors and sneak back to the stairs. Don’t say a word and follow my lead, got it?” He’s being stricter than he usually is, partially to conceal his humiliation and partially because he needs to put his mind to something that doesn’t involve his dick.
“Sure thing, boss,” you whisper back, and Reigen can hear the amusement in your tone. He chooses to ignore it. When you get back to the office though, he’s going to make you clean that damn sink again in penance and he won’t feel the slightest bit of guilt for watching you do it. Maybe this time, he’ll even take a picture for his private collection….
Lower down in the closet, the light is completely swallowed again by darkness and Reigen has to blindly take one hand off of your waist to slide it along the door until his fingers bump against the knob. He takes hold of it and twists, attempting to push the door outward slowly. Except, the door doesn’t move. It doesn’t even budge. Confused, Reigen twists the metal further in case he hasn’t moved it around far enough and tries again. Still, nothing happens.
“What are you waiting for?” you say, frustrated.
“It won’t open,” Reigen grunts, rattling the doorknob as hard as he dares. He can’t afford to make too much noise and draw the spirit back towards you both, but he can’t risk losing the chance to run for it, either.
“Please tell me you’re fucking kidding,” you say in a strained whisper. “Reigen, stop messing aroun-”
“I’m not!” Reigen growls, jiggling it again. “I can’t get it- it won’t open!” He applies a little more pressure, wrenching it back and forth a few more times until, after one particularly frustrated yank, there’s a sickening crunch of dead wood and more light pools into the closet via a new, small hole.
He’s ripped the entire thing off.
“Oh,” says Reigen quietly.
You stare at him in utter disbelief.
“This place is falling apart,” Reigen says, immediately protective of his screw up. “It isn’t my fault-”
“You pulled the fucking handle off, Reigen!” Your voice rises momentarily before you wrestle it back under control at Reigen’s rather brusque shhh! “You pulled it off,” you repeat, far quieter this time but still distressed. “We’ll be trapped in here for hours, you idiot!”
You’re right. The only two people who know you’re both here are Mob and Serizawa. Mob is busy with friends and it’ll take Serizawa a little while to catch on that something is wrong. The job is about forty minutes from the office; allowing for travel and the time it takes to complete the work, Reigen can safely estimate that it’ll be a while before your absence is questioned. That means he’s going to be stuck in this stupid little closet, half hard and totally distracted, with you glued to him for a long time.
He tips his head back against the closet wall and sighs, closing his eyes as he tries to wrack his brain for potential options.
Reigen wonders if he should just try throwing himself at the door and facing off with a hungry spirit. It might be more preferable than his current situation, at least.
It’s uncharacteristic of you to be so mute when Reigen fucks up, and after a few minutes of miserable silence he opens his eyes again to check that you’re still there. You are, of course, but there’s a look on your face that Reigen rarely sees you wear. Despite the shitty light, he can just about make out that your eyes are becoming wide, gaze darting around the closet, and he can feel your chest beginning to rise and fall far quicker than normal, just like it had when he’d made you jump. Your breath is coming in fast, short pants and your hands grasp at the front of his shirt.
You’re starting to panic.
Abruptly, Reigen remembers you confiding in him a while ago whilst the two of you had watched some terrible horror movie together, lounging around in his apartment one evening, about how much you disliked the thought of being trapped.
The protagonist had been buried alive and you’d barely been able to finish the rest of the movie, too caught up in the anxiety of the scenario to remember how unlikely it would be for a similar fate to befall you. You’d clutched his arm so tightly that he’d found a small bruise the next morning in the shower and he can still recall how excited he had felt to have a souvenir of your presence….
Focus! Reigen warns himself, straightening up as best he can to force himself back into the moment. Now isn’t the time!
He squeezes your waist gently, a reassuring reminder that he’s right here with you. “Calm down, I’ve got it all under control,” Reigen lies through his teeth, slipping back into his false bluster the moment he knows he’s fucking things up. “We can wait until the spirit goes back to sleep and then-”
“Spirits don’t sleep!” You snap. “I’m not waiting-”
“They totally do!” Reigen replies, annoyed that you’re questioning his ever profound knowledge. “Look, I’m the professional here, you don’t even come out on jobs so why don’t you just-”
“You got us stuck in here in the first place, mister professional,” you say angrily. Both of your voices are stage whispers now, caught between concealing your presence and yelling at one another. “There has to be a safety release in here!” Your body twists viciously as you squirm around, hands flitting across the inside of the closet in an urgent attempt to free yourself from its confines.
Somehow, despite the tiny space, the ferocity of your search manages to turn you around until your back is flat against his chest instead, your body ramming his.
Reigen is torn between biting his own tongue off in frustration at the feeling of you writhing against him and yanking you closer to seek more contact. He drops the doorknob onto his foot, praying the sound will be muffled enough that it won’t draw attention and freeing up his other hand to grab a hold of you before anything more mortifying occurs. He needs to distract you, for his sake and yours.
“Hey, stop!” He attempts to prevent you from going any further, wrapping his arms around your waist and anchoring you down. “Easy, just stay still-”
“Get off of me!” you snap, tilting your head toward him and wriggling against his grip even harder. With every move, your ass bounces off of his lap and Reigen prays to whatever god is listening that he doesn’t make any more of a fool of himself than he already has today. The sensation is sinful, like he’s fucking you with your clothes on, and Reigen isn’t sure that he can hold out like this.
“Wait,” you pant, halting your search in the darkness to reach behind yourself for his slacks’ pocket. “Your cell phone, you said you brought it in, right?” You slide your hand down behind your back, right past his midriff, and grope around for the lifeline, palming at whatever you can reach. “Call Serizawa, he can exorcise that thing and let us out!”
Those gods must be laughing at him.
Abruptly, Reigen lurches his body aside, feebly trying to avoid your intrusive touch and acutely aware that his lie is about to be found out. “Stop,” he begs you softly, starting to panic himself. “Please. You gotta stop touching me or I’m gonna-” He drops his hands from your waist to grab yours where they rest, halfway into his pockets and you wrestle with him for a second to try and move him away. Reigen swears under his breath.
The proximity and your wriggling make a horrible, delicious concoction and his body reacts accordingly: Reigen is hard again. He can’t fight it anymore, not with your hands so close to his cock and your breath so hot against his cheek.
What happens next is a complete accident, an automatic move he makes before his brain catches up: Hands clamping down around your waist, Reigen purposefully rolls his hips into the soft curve of your ass, hard enough to gain the exact, exquisite friction that he’s been denying himself the entire time he’s been in here with you. Everything occurs so fast that he just about has time to clamp his hand over his mouth to stifle a pathetic little sob as he cums, hard, in his pants. He squeezes his eyes shut, stars blooming behind his eyelids, and pants desperately as he tries to catch his breath.
At his front, you’ve gone very still.
For a few minutes, no one speaks. Only Reigen’s ragged breathing and the sounds of birds somewhere way off beyond the confines of the house fill the silence, until you finally find your voice again: "Seriously?”
Reigen isn’t a stranger to making an idiot of himself, but this is definitely a new low for him. He knows how much trouble he’s going to be in when the two of you get out of here and he can practically smell the oncoming harassment lawsuit wafting through the stale air. Although, maybe that’s just the scent of his sweaty embarrassment….
Ever keen to save face though, Reigen does his best to play stupid. “What?” He asks, voice frayed at the edges.
“Did you just blow your fucking load-”
“Absolutely not-!”
“My ass is wet, Reigen,” you hiss. “I can feel it through my skirt!”
The thin material around the front of his slacks is soaked through, he knows you can. “No, it isn’t,” he scoffs, denying it without hesitation. “You’re imagining things.”
“Liar.” You tilt your hips back minutely, just enough to rub up on his spent erection, and Reigen breathes in sharply. “I didn’t realise you were so into ghouls and near death experiences,” you whisper, sounding amused in spite of your annoyance.
“It’s not a ghoul,” Reigen corrects automatically, mouth moving independently of his brain. He swallows thickly and shifts in place. “And even if something like that did happen,” he says, trying to sound dismissive. “It’s because you won’t stop moving, it’s only natural.”
“That’s… A pathetic excuse,” you admonish, head tipped back toward him. “Even for you.” Your tongue darts out to wet your lower lip, however in such close quarters, the motion effectively wets the corner of his, too. Hot spit brushes against his lip and Reigen’s mouth parts almost of its own accord, an automatic reaction to the stimulus. The angle is awkward but your mouths slide together, the slickness of the skin unbelievably arousing.
“S’not an excuse, it’s your fault.” Reigen protests weakly, lips catching against your own as you nudge your nose along his cheek. He knows he should really apologise for his indecency, that he should try to find a way out of this situation as quickly as possible, and yet…. That heavy, unspoken feeling that so often follows him around when he’s with you is filling up the interior of the closet like thick cotton wool. Your words are sharp and stinging, but you don’t seem to be as disgusted as you sound. It makes his head swim and his legs feel weak, and in some kind of unfortunate miracle, Reigen can feel his cock stir with interest again already.
“You’re really blaming it all on me? You’re the one who dragged me along to this and you’re the one who got us locked in this closet.” You laugh quietly under your breath at him, disbelieving and more than a little entertained. “God, you’re insufferable.” You press backward again and Reigen chokes back a whimper.
“I told you to stop-”
“Stop what, boss?” you ask, feigning innocence, and fuck does he hate how much you’re able to get under his skin. No one else toys with him like this, teases him. No one else dares to question his leadership or to wind him up until he explodes. No one else except you.
Reigen grits his teeth so hard he swears he feels them creak under the pressure. “If you don’t quit moving around like that, I’m not going to be held responsible for what I do next,” he grinds out. He knows you’re provoking him on purpose and he shouldn’t fall for it so easily, but he’s powerless like this and if there’s one thing Reigen hates; it’s feeling fucking powerless.
“Oh? And what are you going to do about it?” You ask, words heavy with ridicule. “Cum in your pants again?”
Reigen has had enough of your attitude.
“Fine,” he snaps. “You want to play dirty? Let’s see how you like it.” He’s been aching to touch you for so long; if this is the only chance he’s going to get, he’ll take it. Reigen isn’t one to watch opportunities pass him by. He wants to grope and grab and feel his way all over you, and he just doesn’t have the willpower in himself to resist it anymore, especially when you’re winding him up like this.
Reigen’s hands drop from where they hold your waist, inching to your hips and down to grope at your ass. It’s just like every wet dream he’s ever had about you; you’re stuck with nowhere to go, at his mercy as he touches and grabs whatever he can reach.
You breathe in sharply at his touch and your back arches, silently seeking his attention. “That’s so inappropriate,” you whisper, and he can hear the smirk in your voice. You don’t mean a word you’re saying. “I should report you.”
“Oh yeah? So do it,” he challenges, pawing at the curve of your backside greedily. “I’m sure they’d love to hear all about how you started it.” It feels like a dam has broken inside him, a flood that he’s held at bay for so long that it’s too overpowering to put a stop to now that it’s begun to overflow, and without your outright refusal, Reigen feels justified in his act. His hips rock forward again and he shudders, his own arousal not forgotten.
At his front, you snicker to yourself at his neediness to chase the feeling and he feels one of your arms snake upward to loop around his neck, your hand clutching at the back of his hair. The action prickles goosebumps along his skin.
“Fuck,” Reigen gasps as he moves, words tumbling out in soft pants. “You couldn’t just stay still, could you? Moving your ass like that, in your stupid fucking skirt and your stupid fucking stockings.” As his hips roll into you, his fingers travel to your skirt to find the tops of said lingerie and he runs his touch up the nearest strap of your garter belt.
You make a soft sound of surprise. “Stockings? How do you know I wear stock-”
Reigen pings the elastic, cutting off your words and making you gasp at the sensation, your fingers tugging at the strands of his hair. Reigen smirks, pleased to finally get the upper hand even if only for a moment. “I’ve seen them before, in the office- drives me fuckin’ crazy, ” he pants into your parted mouth. “Every time you bend over, your skirt is too short.”
“It is? I had no idea….” You pout, lower lip touching his. The words are faker than Reigen’s confidence and it makes him grin.
“I knew it,” he says, ego emboldened. “Tease.”
“Pervert,” you fire back with a smirk, legs opening a little wider as his curious hand trails up from the band of the lingerie toward your inner thigh.
“D’you wear them every day?”
“Only when I know we’ll be alone together,” you confess.
Something about your admission turns Reigen on even more. The thought that you’re only wearing them for him, for his attention, is mind blowing. He can imagine you slipping them on in the morning, thinking of him as you study yourself in the mirror before you leave for work. Reigen squeezes your ass again and uses the leverage to his advantage as he continues to work himself against you, head filled with the intimate images.
His fingers slip up your leg until they brush against the crotch of your underwear, the curve of your pussy hidden underneath. Much to his pleasant surprise, he notices that he’s not alone in his needy desire. He can feel that you’re similarly affected by the closeness, enough wetness seeping through the lacey fabric that he suspects you might have been aroused for just as long as he has. “Look at that,” Reigen teases softly, a smug grin spreading on his face. “Acting so high and mighty when you’re just as desperate for it.” He can’t deny the swell of narcissistic pride that rises in his chest; he’s making you wet. You. The object of his obsession, the person he’s only ever dreamt of having like this. It’s his touch that has you keening and sighing, even if you won’t admit it.
You scoff, refusing to give him the satisfaction. “Am not-!” Your protests are smothered in favour of a hushed groan as Reigen’s thick finger nudges past your underwear and slides easily up into your cunt, your wetness offering no resistance at all.
“You were saying?” Reigen smirks, slowly inching his finger in and out, bit by bit. You’re so warm and tight around him, hips grinding down, back and forth in time with his motions. Every movement has your ass rubbing on him and Reigen lets out a shaky sigh as he presses up to meet you.
His dick strains against the fabric and silently, he wishes he had the room to free himself and fuck you silly. Now that he doesn’t have to pretend to be anything but the perverted mess that he is, Reigen ruts against your ass like a dog in heat. The enclosed space feels stifling with both of your bodies heating it up, sweat pooling at the back of his collar as he works himself up all over again. He knows he'll look a mess by the time you both manage to escape this place.
You’ve begun to make pretty little sounds against his mouth, hushed moans mixing with his desperate pants as he works his finger inside you and it’s so obscene that Reigen almost finishes on the spot. You’re both making too much noise and at this rate, you’re at risk of getting killed if the spirit returns to find you both doing exactly what it had accused you of breaking in for. Reigen knows he needs to quieten down and find a way to shut you up, too. In the fraction of free space between you, he nuzzles his mouth to yours. Although what you’re engaged in is amorous enough, the gesture is so intimate in comparison that it makes his heart flutter. “Can I kiss you?” Reigen asks, surprisingly timid considering how vigorously he’s fucking your ass.
Debauched as you are, you roll your eyes. “Finally,” you murmur. “He asks.” You sound almost relieved by his request, as though you’ve been hoping he might offer such a thing, and Reigen grins to himself.
When he kisses you, it’s sloppy; messy, unskilled and full of spit. He licks his way into your mouth enthusiastically and sighs at the touch, a trembling breath that whistles through his nose and dampens the skin of your cheek. You grunt at the force but you allow him to continue, coaxing his tongue with your own in an attempt to slow him down. Reigen doesn’t listen. He’s too confident in his own ability to take advice from you and far too excited to calm himself down anymore.
Between your legs, he presses a second finger into you, relishing in your gasp of pleasure. You’re so wet that his palm is quickly becoming slick with your arousal as he pumps his fingers and Reigen relinquishes your mouth with a lewd smack. “Fuck, you’re really into this aren’t you?” He says, bumping noses with you. “So wet and-!” Reigen’s words end in a choked off moan as you let go of his hair and drop your hand to reach behind you, cupping his cock mid-thrust.
You grasp him firmly through his damp slacks and let him grind into your grip. “You’ve got a big mouth, Reigen,” you pant, teasing. “Someone ought to teach you how to use it.”
Your hand is all he needs. Reigen is too greedy to stop himself when he knows his end is near and even if he wanted to, he’s helpless to stop it. He ought to at least try and hold on, to make up for his earlier premature finale and prove that he’s good at this kind of thing so you’ll think he’s somewhat of a decent fuck and maybe even ask for it again, but he just can’t.
A tension builds in his lower stomach, red hot and carnal, and then he’s cumming all over again, spilling into his already-filthy underwear. Reigen shudders violently, seizing you in another clumsy kiss. He almost bangs heads with you as he attempts to cover the pathetic little moans that bubble up out of him by smothering them into your mouth. Reigen’s knees feel weak again and he slumps against the closet wall behind him, breathing hard and totally spent.
You tip back the short distance with him and laugh . “So soon? I was just starting to enjoy myself….”
The back of Reigen’s neck heats up and he curls his fingers. “Sounded like you were enjoying yourself plenty,” he snipes, out of breath but still able to find a sharp-tongued reply.
You choke on a moan and wiggle your ass to encourage him. “I could stand to enjoy myself a little bit more,” you say, cheeky.
Reigen grins. He might be selfish when it comes to his own pleasure, but he won’t leave you high and dry (or wet, as the case may be). “Relax,” he whispers against your ear, cocky now that he can have you at his mercy instead. “We’ve got plenty of time, you said so yourself, right?...”

In the end, it takes Serizawa three hours to come to your rescue. He exorcises the spirit and frees you both in under five minutes, and when you finally return back to the office, Reigen still has you clean under the sink before he lets you go home for the day.

It had started as a joke.
A passing comment one night. You’d been going back and forth about non-existent sex lives and your own lacklustre suitors, holed up in a tiny dive bar, several glasses deep with your boss whilst laughing and teasing one another in a way that anyone else overseeing might call inappropriate for a work outing.
Except a joke usually stays as just that: a silly thing spoken once between friends that isn’t mentioned again. This, however, has never quite been put to bed.
“Maybe if you kept one head busy, you wouldn’t lose the other so quickly,” is all you’d said that night, grinning up at him from where you’d been slouched across the table. A cheeky jibe with only a gentle heat behind it.
“And what makes you think that’s a problem I'd have?” Reigen had scoffed around his cigarette, affronted like he’d never mentioned his own virginity to you in a shy, drunken confession several months ago. You’re not even sure he remembers doing it.
Wary to bring it up again for fear of spoiling the mood, you’d shrugged. “You just strike me as the type.”
Reigen had laughed, a little too loudly and a little too forcefully. “As if someone like me would do that. I get plenty of practice, I can hold out for hours, thank you very much.”
The lie had been blatant and every time you think back on it, you’re certain Reigen had to have known how obvious he’d sounded, and yet…. The topic has come up at least twice since and every time, Reigen has pushed for you to take it back, and without fail you’ve always refused.
Again, today, Reigen had made an unprovoked comment about his outstanding prowess and, as is your nature, you’d been unable to help throwing out a teasing call out of his Loudest Man in the Room routine alongside a half-hopeful bet of him barely making it ten minutes.
And, as is Reigen’s nature, he’d snapped back with yet another poorly thought through comment: “Well if you’re so fucking sure, why don’t you come find out for yourself?”
Which is why, on a rainy Wednesday evening, close to the end of office hours, you’re spending the last quarter of your day on the cold tiles of the shop floor with your boss’ cock buried deep in your throat.
You’re tucked neatly under his desk, hidden from view of the unlocked, slightly open office door as you work him with your mouth, spit slick on your lips and rapidly coating the hand that you hold the base of his cock steady with.
Reigen’s legs are spread wide in order to nestle you between them, the heels of his cheap loafers digging into the ground, desperate for purchase to counter the sliding wheels of his desk chair.
He’s been doing his best to keep himself under control for the better part of the entire two minutes that you’ve been down here and he’s been failing miserably. His grip on the desk’s edge is white knuckled, his breathing laboured and ragged between his low groans, and when you open your eyes slightly to check on him, the poor thing looks wrecked already.
His face is bright red and there’s sweat on his brow like he’s run a mile. Reigen’s gaze is glassy with pleasure, looking right through you until he senses your eyes on his and that famous charade comes crashing back down like it always does.
“Not so-“ A gasp of breath. “Not so smart now, huh?” He chokes out, mouth twitching up into a mean grin.
You’ve never rolled your eyes mid-blow job before, but Reigen often manages to bring out the worst of your impatience and this is no different. He’s utterly unbearable. You absolutely must make him cum.
Swiftly, you release him from your throat to pull off up to the head of his cock before you swirl your tongue wickedly around the most sensitive part of him, and Reigen moans loudly, high pitched and pathetic, his wise-crack dying in his throat.
The buckle of his belt jingles as his hips twitch forward and you hold his thighs tightly to still him. This is your turn to get back at him, no matter how much he thinks he’s in charge here. He grows impossibly harder in your mouth and you can tell, instantly, that he’s going to blow his load any second now.
You can taste the sweat on his skin, the salt of it mixing with the growing pre-cum on the head of his cock, and your eyes fall closed in pleased preparation: both for the mouthful to follow and the gloating rights you’ll have for the next week or so. You’re not going to let this go for a long-
The phone on the desk rings, shrill and loud.
Reigen jolts so suddenly that you almost gag on him and your eyes fly open in shock to meet his. For a second, you still, sharing a look of mutual surprise. Technically you’re still on the clock: it’s quarter to five and you’re not due to shut for another fifteen minutes, but it isn’t often that you get a client so close to the end of play.
The phone continues to bleat about its annoying presence and slowly, Reigen’s look of surprise shifts into one of flustered cunning. A lopsided smirk grows on his reddened mouth and he visibly steels himself before he reaches one hand out towards the phone.
“Keep my head busy, right?” He breathes, smug and slightly relieved, and abruptly you realise he’s about to checkmate you with your own suggestion.
You go to pull off of him, to talk him out of it, but Reigen is in his element when he thinks he’s got the upper hand. There’s not much that can stop him and before you can even lift up halfway, his free hand finds your hair, fingers tangling in it tightly, and he pushes your head back down.
It’s firm but gentle, and in spite of his cavalier attitude, his know-it-all masquerade, the look in Reigen's eyes conveys a soft request for permission. A hint of affection simmers under his obnoxious front. It’s so unexpected that it makes your stomach flutter and you offer no resistance to his half-demand, sinking back down and taking him with ease. You'd rather hand him the advantage than have to examine that feeling too deeply right now.
Reigen clears his throat and snatches up the phone, clicking the little answer button and launching straight into his preferred persona. “Spirits and Such Consultation,” he says, voice only slightly wobbly. “How can I help?”
You can hear the customer on the phone say something, their words garbled through the receiver, and Reigen hums in acknowledgment. His eyes lock with yours again and as requested, you return to your work.
You move your head slowly to begin with. If Reigen wants to be a smart ass about things, why shouldn’t you torture him a little bit? As far as you’re aware, this is his first blow job: it would be terrible to leave him with a disappointing impression, after all. Might as well set the bar high.
Every pass of your wet mouth is agonisingly slow, drool slipping from the corners of your lips as you lave spit across every inch of his cock. Reigen isn’t impressively endowed by any means: he’s perfectly average, in fact, but it allows you to be enthusiastic in your affection. You can take him deep and hold him there without too much trouble, and it gives you a bit of an advantage even though he’s trying his best to outlast your efforts.
You bob your head up and down slowly, watching him with fond amusement as he attempts to keep himself together for the sake of professional dignity.
“I’d be happy to help,” he says, a little strained. “Spirits and Such prides itself on always going the distance.” A smirk ghosts across his face, evidently tickled by his own joke, and you’re not sure how it’s possible for someone to be so fucking annoying even mid-coitus.
Clueless, the customer thanks him profusely and launches into a chatty over-explanation of their problem. Reigen clearly isn’t listening to a damn word the guy is saying: every fibre of his being is directed into hiding the fact that he’s on the receiving end of a thorough blow job from his secretary.
You decide that the best way to get a little own-back on him is to mirror his game. Reigen likes to be a show off and although you can never even dream of getting close to his level of showmanship, you’re happy to try. With a vulgar smack, you release his cock from your mouth and press a coy kiss to the tip, your tongue chasing it with sloppy attention and the hand that you hold him steady begins to work the soaked base in time with your tongue, the motion squelching quietly with every talented twist of your wrist.
Reigen exhales heavily through his nose and bites down on his lower lip with a shudder, unable to look away despite the client still droning on in his ear, and this time it’s your turn to offer a prideful grin.
Making a show of it, you run your tongue up and down the underside of the head slowly, the saliva allowing your lips to glide along the skin in a tantalising tease of movement, and just as Reigen opens his mouth to respond to the customer with a meaningless affirmative, you take his full length back into your mouth in one fluid motion, all the way to the base with practised ease.
Reigen’s hope of playing it cool is scuppered instantly and he fails to catch the pathetic little sob that tumbles from his mouth. His fingers tighten in your hair, pulling the strands so hard that your scalp burns and tears prickle the corners of your eyes.
“Fuck!” Reigen gasps, one knee banging the desk as he convulses forward violently.
The client on the phone says something and Reigen scrambles to save some face: “So sorry!” He chokes out, not sounding anything of the sort. “Emergency in the office! Call you right back!” And then he’s hanging up, tossing the phone onto the desk and gripping your hair with both hands.
He rocks his hips up once, twice, and then he’s cumming hard down your throat with a broken and outrageously lewd moan.
You’re prepared for his reaction and you swallow around him, happily taking whatever he has to offer and staying put even when some of it trickles from the corner of your eager mouth, ruining the front of your blouse. A consummate professional, through and through.
When it’s clear he’s done, you reach up to extricate his fingers from your head and Reigen slumps back in his chair, letting you go without argument.
A mix of drool and cum trails from your lips to his cock as you push his chair backwards to give yourself room, wetness dripping down your chin, and you wipe your mouth with the back of your hand.
Reigen, panting hard and splayed out in his seat, rubs the sweat from his brow. “Fuck,” he says again, swallowing thickly and trying to catch his breath. “Fuck.”
You laugh quietly at his debauched state, entertained by his frustration, and glance toward the clock. “That was like, four minutes,” you say, and it’s hard not to sound proud about the achievement. “I win.”
Avoiding your gaze, Reigen grimaces at the wetness on the crotch of his slacks and huffs. “That’s not fair,” he mutters, ears red. “And you used your hand too, that’s cheating. It doesn’t count.”
This guy is a fucking nightmare. “Don’t be a sore loser,” you smirk, climbing to your feet and ignoring the creaking of your knees.
Despite his soiled suit, Reigen tucks himself away and buckles his belt again without comment. His unusual silence belies his embarrassment. Once he’s a little more decent, he casts a glance your way and gives you a once over, nose slightly wrinkled.
You’re expecting him to say thanks, maybe even offer to return the favour, but instead he stretches out one long leg and kicks you gently on the ass, encouraging you to step out from behind his desk.
“You’re a mess,” he quips, as though he doesn’t look like he’s just emptied almost every fibre of his being down your neck. “Clean yourself up. I gotta call this guy back.”
You stumble aside, gaping at his unbelievable (yet admittedly unsurprising) gall. Every time Reigen opens his mouth, you’re always amazed at how well he manages to push your buttons, and just as you start across the room, tongue bitten to hold back a snarky remark, Reigen calls your name.
You glance back to where he’s sitting, his feet kicked up on his desk, the picture of his usual charismatic, jerk-off self, the phone pressed to his ear. “It was six minutes, actually,” Reigen says matter-of-factly as the line rings. “And you owe me ramen for cheating.”
Before you can even think of responding, the client answers on the other end of the phone and Reigen shifts back into his salesman’s spiel, effortlessly slipping into character as though nothing unusual has occurred.
“Terribly sorry about that,” he apologises, trying hard not to smile at the mess on the front of your shirt. He meets your eyes and winks, charming and cheeky. “Something unexpected came over my secretary.”
Asshole.

haha suck-retary (please clap)
