Date Night

Date Night

Robin Buckley x fem!reader

Summery: Friday night dates might just be your favorite thing as long as heartfelt car rides follow after

A/N: I've been kind of inactive lately but I've decided that instead of pouring over old pieces I'm just going to write and rewrite unpublished things to hopefully get me back on track :)

“Come on Robin!” you yelled running into Scoops Ahoy at the end of her shift. “Robin, your girlfriends here!” Steve yelled into the back giving you a small greeting while serving a few kids as Robin threw open the back door with her bag thrown over her shoulder. Shouting a quick goodbye to Steve while grabbing your hand and she gave you a small peck on the cheek, laughing as the two you ran through Starcourt mall weaving through parents and kids.

“What should we see?” Robin asked swinging your intertwined hands back and forth while staring at the new movies they were showing for your annual Friday date night. “Well Ghostbusters is supposed to be good,” you said with a smile thinking about how much Dustin had raved about it after he had gone with the boys the week before. Smiling at you she said a small “Sure” the two of you stood in line for your snacks and drinks.

‘There is no Dana, only Zuul’ Taking a sip of your drink you glanced at your girlfriend noticing she was completely enamored with the movie. Leaning over as much as you could with the armrest in between the two of you, you whispered “How you liken the movie” only for her the slowly turn her head with wide-eyes “This is the best fucking movie I’ve ever seen” she said before giving you a huge grin and wrapping an arm around your shoulders, encouraging you to lean into her while she turned back to the screen.

Walking out of the dimly lit theater as the ending credits played Robin turned to you while depositing her 3-D glasses in the bin whereas you shoved yours into your pocket. “Isn’t it nasty to think that the majority of people in there were either kids or kids our age swapping spit?” laughing at her while bumping her shoulder you let out a snort “That was just nasty man, I just took you on a romantic date to see the best movie of the perhaps century according to you and you felt the need to completely ruin the mood, such a cock block” you said as she slung an arm around your shoulders while kissing the crown of your head as the two of you walked out the front doors of the mall to Robins beat-up car Bessie. “I had a really good time tonight,” you said as you climbed into the car while Robin swung herself in, rifling through her bag for her keys. Looking up at you with a soft look she smiled “I did too,” she said before leaning over the console just as you had in the theater to whisper to her, only this time she pressed her lips sweetly against yours only stopping because she had felt your lips curl up into smile rendering you unable to keep kissing her. “What’s so funny?” she asked while you slumped back in the passenger seat with a huge grin while she started the car. “Nothing,” you said now covering your mouth and looking out the window with a huge smile. “Nothing? Oh, I’m sure” she said amused while pulling out of the parking lot, sparing you a glance while slightly speeding up to make the light before it turned red. “It's just-” you said looking over to her as she flipped the cassette player to a familiar tune of the mix-tape she'd made for you months prior. “I think I love you,” you said slightly laughing while she tuned to you with a slight smirk “Is that so?” she said rounding the corner of Bluer Street. “Yeah, I think I do,” you said leaning your head back against the seat with a happy sigh. “And now thanks to you I owe Steve 10 bucks,” she said making you turn to her in confusion “Wait- what do you mean?” “I bet him 10 bucks that I'd tell you first,” she said reaching for your hand over the console with a loving gaze. “So are you going to say it back?” you said mouth agape while she laughed, pulling the car into her neighborhood. “I thought that was implied" she said glancing at you as she looked down the street for her house. “Well I'd still like to hear it!” you said with a laugh as she pulled into her drive way. Snorting as she switched the ignition while turning to face you, only now illuminated by the headlights bouncing back off her garage in the now dark driveway, she reached up a hand to hold your face as you leaned into it. “I, Robin Buckley am in love with you,” she said giving you a quick kiss before she was out the door in a matter of seconds, throwing open you’re door to give you a real kiss.

“You girls are home a bit later than usual,” Mrs. Buckley said while Robin rolled her eyes, impatient to go upstairs to change out of her work uniform “Sorry Mrs. Buckley, we went to the movies and it ran a bit later than we expected,” you said sweetly with her mother cooed at her ‘best friend’ who Robin always claimed she loved more than her only to get a smile and a, “I think Y/N’s a lovely girl” “Will you be staying the night?” her mother asked snapping Robin out of her daydream. “If it alright with you?” you asked once again charming her mom, making Robin roll her eyes with a smile. “Of course, of course! Just tell me if you girls need anything!” Mrs. Buckley called as Robin was already pushing the two of you up the stairs while grumbling a “Will do Ma!” Laughing at your girlfriend’s antics as she threw her bag down on her desk chair while flopping down on her bed you walked over to her dresser to pick out her nightclothes and the spare hoodie Robin always kept tucked away for you. Throwing them at her with a laugh you stripped off your day clothes in favor of the sweater and a pair of Robins boxers after a long day at work, ready to curl up and watch some shitty cable with the love of your life.

Robin loved her job. She liked to see people shouting her name and those of her colleagues, to see how they admired their talent and how they finally got what they deserved for their great work, but, without a doubt, none of this would be the same if it weren't for her old friend. She was still there to support her and the group. She cheered her up when she was down, went to all her concerts, always smiled and brightened her day as if it were the simplest task. For Robin being with her was a dream come true, everything was happiness and love and hugs and friendly caresses, until a reminder hit her so hard she thought she might die, her friend was straight, she would never love her the way she did, she would never be reciprocated, and she knew, deep down, that she would still be waiting for her, for as long as it took, to be reciprocated.

"So... You like girls?" Billy said, stubbing his cigarette out in the ashtray with disinterest.

"You don't need to pretend, Billy, it was more than obvious" Robin sighed, kicking a rock she saw on the floor that was definitely not to blame for her love problems.

"Yeah, you're right, I don't plan on messing around with shit" he walked over to her, shoving his hands in the front pockets of his jeans, "What do you plan on doing?"

"Nothing" she closed her eyes tightly as she felt a stabbing pain in her heart, "What else can I do?"

"I'm going to sound really corny" he moved closer to her, ruffling her brown hair, "but if you really love her, you should give it a try."

"What if she stops being my friend? What if she hates me?" She began to speak faster and faster, her hands shaking violently.

"Nothing you're going to gain by asking such things, believe me" an overly bitter smile came over Billy's face, a smile that reminded Robin that she couldn't talk about these things with him, "tell her the truth, and if she doesn't accept the way you are and how you feel, just let her go."

(The orange ones are seen from your point of view, the black ones are narrated from Robin's point of view. The story takes place during the process of your wedding, hence the name of each part. After the epilogue there will be a description of the character that is with Robin and her name (this is because in the other parts of Midnight series the character appears and could be confused with the reader of that story) anyway, I will avoid as much as possible the important physical descriptions like skin color, eyes, hair, etc.

Proposal | A Fake Smile For A Broken Heart.

All to well with robin like something happened and like let’s say reader was the jake in this.

A/n: Seriously, seriously, sorry for the delay, I was really sick this week and couldn't make any progress, I just got over the cold and got it done as soon as I could. I hope you like it 🥺.

All To Well With Robin Like Something Happened And Like Lets Say Reader Was The Jake In This.

When you and Robin started your relationship you knew it wouldn't be easy. Homosexual relationships were frowned upon, indeed, it was almost a crime to have feelings for someone of the same sex. They made you feel like a freak, like a mistake, they told you over and over again that you were disgusting, that it was just a phase, that it wouldn't be permanent, but they didn't know anything, they couldn't understand.

They couldn't see the sparkle in Robin's eyes, they couldn't see the smiles, the notes, the silent "I love you's" that were sent in whispers that no one could hear. They would never understand what real love was. Or at least that's how Robin felt.

She knew how difficult it was to be openly gay, especially in a town as small as Hawkins, which is why she never suspected anything. She ignored all of Steve's comments, all of his warnings with concern behind every one of them. And why would you go out with her if you didn't really love her? It was stupid, kind of pointless.

Robin remembered like it was yesterday that fall of '86. The leaves were falling from the trees and resting on the streets of Hawkins. They were both in Steve's car, occupying the back seats like armchairs at karaoke, asking Steve to turn the music up loud. She could remember their voices together chanting a cheesy Madonna song, their fingers brushing over the leather of the seats, the tension in the air, the knowing looks contrasting with Steve's, who was looking at them through the rearview mirror with a smile full of relief and pride that her best friend was finally reciprocated. Robin was sure that this would be the best fall of her life, because you were in it, because you were everything she wanted, and she was so sure you felt the same way.

It all started to fall the day Robin came to your house for the first time. You were living with your older sister, who had moved to Hawkins a few years ago, you had come over the summer of last year to be in a quieter environment.

She could remember the smell of hot chocolate, the cold air inside the cottage, she also remembered leaving her colorful scarf on the stair handle, the one she could never get back because she was too absent-minded to remember where she had left it. She remembered the laughter, the secret glances and the touches under the table; the way your sister told jokes just as bad as yours, she even remembered the sound of your landline ringing, of your light footsteps walking to it and picking it up, the way your eyes lit up and a smile that she had never seen before appeared on your face.

"You should ask her" Steve said when Robin told him about that call, "You'll gain nothing by keeping this to yourself, I'm sure it's a misunderstanding, I can tell she loves you."

And, with all her regrets, Robin went to confront you, to ask you who this other person was that you had never told her about. Maybe, if you hadn't lied to her saying that he was just a friend, if you hadn't blatantly told her that it didn't mean anything, then maybe now things would be much different, much more... right. But no, you decided to lie to her, you decided to ignore her concern and calm her down with lies, lies that you both knew were meaningless, but that, anyway, Robin would believe them, because she wanted to believe in you, in a future together, where other people's opinions didn't matter.

The second time was at her house. You had stayed for a "girls' night out," an innocent thing all teenage girls did. She remembered wearing her most decent pajamas, her blushing at the sight of yours, the taste of your lips, of her skin against yours, how right it felt to be there, with you, loving each other until dawn without anyone knowing. For her it had been an incredible night, but for you, it had only been one last time, an experiment, something that would define how you truly felt about her.

You didn't think about it too much, of course you didn't, even before you could, you were already avoiding her by any means, ignoring her and Steve's calls, going out with your friends to distract yourself, going out with a guy so you could get rid of that little nagging feeling that told you over and over again that this wasn't right.

Robin didn't know what she had done wrong, even when Steve told her over and over again that she had done nothing wrong, that you were to blame, but she just couldn't believe it. You were perfect in Robin's eyes, you were her ideal type, someone she thought of as the person she would spend the rest of her life with, and God, how wrong she was.

You weren't there when she found out the truth, but you could get a picture of how she reacted. It was Nancy who, with no ill intent, came with the news that you had started dating a guy who had moved to Hawkins a while back, the same guy you talked to that time on the phone, who was supposed to mean nothing to you. That day, Robin stayed at Steve's house until the wee hours of the morning, crying, screaming and punching a pillow, asking Steve why you had done it to her, even though he didn't have the answer to anything.

He was upset, too upset, he even went to face you, to try to get a clear answer because, how could you play with Robin's heart in such a horrible way? It almost hit you in the face when all you said was "I wanted to experiment, to know what it felt like to be with a girl, but apparently it wasn't my thing. Nothing against Robin, she's a great girl, but she helped me understand that she's not what I want in my life."

He never told Robin your answer, he wouldn't be able to break her heart even more. All he did was be there for her, be her shoulder to cry on, comfort her, make her laugh, put her back together until she was back to the same Robin she knew, until she believed in love again, until she could open up again with another girl who did love her and treat her like she deserved.

The last time Robin saw you was in the middle of the city, on one of those days when she accompanied his girlfriend to buy some records. You were laughing, holding hands with a guy who looked nice, a guy who looked curiously very much like her. She felt her world move completely when your gazes met, when you shyly waved your hand at her and went on your way, barely staying to watch her until she lowered her own hand.

As she watched you leave, Robin couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if she hadn't been so naive back then. Maybe she wouldn't have been here, seeing you holding hands with that boy, wearing that scarf she had left at your house, laughing the same way you had laughed with her, looking at him the same way you looked at her, lying to him the same way you lied to her, because Robin knew too well that you weren't happy, that that smile was fake, that "love" was fake, and she wouldn't do anything about it, not this time, because, despite the pain she felt, despite the immense desire she had to run to you and kiss you like she did in the past, she knew that you weren't enough for her, that she deserved someone much better, someone who would love her, who would show her off, someone who really cared, and that, definitely, wouldn't be you, not again.

“What’s with you constantly having music blasting in your ears, huh?” Steve strides up beside you, moving the headphones away so you can hear him.

You glare at him, smacking his hand away as he chuckles, “Listening to my music is better than listening to your stupid mouth, Harrington. Besides, isn’t it smart considering the situation we’ve found ourselves in.” You nod towards Max and Lucas in front of you, the girl trying to ignore the boy beside her just as you are.

“I’m just wondering! What are you listening to then.” He asks nonchalantly. You screw your eyebrows up in confusion, debating on whether you want to humor the guy or not.

“What’s with the sudden interest? You finally want to get the scoop on my amazing music taste-”

“Don’t get ahead of yourself, Y/N, I’m just bored and making conversation.” You laugh, hitting him in the arm. Despite Steve being your best friend, you have a feeling he’s gonna make fun of you for this.

You look away from him, your eyes examining the dirt intently in front of you,  “Lovergirl, Teena Marie.”
