A small, choked sound comes unbidden, despite the way she’s digging her teeth into her lower lip in an attempt to stay quiet. “Let me hear you,” Yeji whispers, and Ryujin does. Yeji is immediately transfixed on the veins in Ryujin’s neck. She can see, can smell Ryujin’s flowing blood. It’s sweet, almost chocolatey, and nothing like the blood bags she’s used to. Blood bags are fine, they get the job done, but the taste is nothing appetising. It’s usually something akin to half-rotting meat, and Yeji only feeds because it’s a necessity.
But here, now, she can barely contain herself from excitement. She’s practically shaking in anticipation, her carnal instincts waking up after centuries of slumber. Her fangs grow, now more evident they aren’t regular canines, and force her mouth open.
“Can I?” She mumbles to Ryujin, her lips already on her pulse point. She has to grip the edge of the counter, hard, to hold herself back from biting down on the warm, enticing thrumming of her heartbeat.
“Yeah,” Ryujin whispers back, and that is all it takes for Yeji to press a chaste kiss to her jaw and sink her fangs into her jugular.

i wanted to put more fics by qaisal here, but I’ll keep it at one lol. all I’ll say is that there’s a reason this person has the top 3 fics in the ryeji tag! the witch school setting, the shapeshifting, the enemies to lovers….i love this fic so much
2. among the sea’s salt by ForTheFlowers
I remember this being one of the first long ryeji fic I read and I was just completely blown away by first, the amount of research put into it to make it a believable historical fiction, second, the amazing set up and characterisation, third, the perfect evolution of an enemies to lovers arc, and fourth, just the sheer quality of writing. this is definitely one of THE best ryeji fics on ao3
3. what’s in a name? by snowandwolves
I don’t have a single bad thing to say about this fic. the worldbuilding is absolutely PHENOMENAL, the writing is superb, the angst and ensuing fluff (and smut) WILL make you cry. I have it downloaded so y’all will have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands

I cried more than once reading indigo and I am NOT ashamed to admit it. literally the slowest of burns and yet IT’S DONE SO WELL. parent ryeji my loves…..the perfect balance of angst and fluff is 👩🍳💋

THE ryeji fic of all time. like cmon. once again, im a sucker for historical fiction and khevzs pulled this off so well!! the setting, the cultural undertones and traditions displayed, like this fic should make the list for just the research put into it alone. would have paid a LOT more attention in school when learning about this time period if it was done in this format. also, the characterisation is just perfect. the transitions into different phases of ryeji’s relationship is so believable and done perfectly. we can only pray khevzs will come back to finish this masterpiece

Yeji starts slow, lazy. The fingers on Ryujin’s stomach grow legs and learn intent, walking themselves across the exposed patch of skin with purpose. Her head slowly drifts up, off Ryujin’s chest, before spelunking into the crevice of her neck and shoulder. It’s an easy adjustment, one that makes Ryujin tilt her head back on reflex alone. She lives there for a bit, covering the smaller girl like a blanket, before she goes further with her plan. A swift kiss to her neck and an even faster response from Ryujin – the smallest, slightest of hitches in her breath. Yeji notices because she notices everything about Ryujin. She kisses her again, this time transitioning the kiss into the brush and nuzzle of her nose against the skin of her neck. Yeji feels it in Ryujin’s stomach this time, the small tense and hardening of it before it relaxes. But she doesn’t let it relax for long. Her fingers cross the boundary of Ryujin’s shirt to the cool skin beneath it. Her nails walk along the pavement of her torso, leaving shivers as footsteps in their wake. Her lips grow more daring, her kisses more forceful, her tongue and teeth joining in as reinforcements on the assault on Ryujin’s neck. “Yeddeong…” “Yes, Ryuddaeng?” The last part of her name comes out as a hot breath, causing Ryujin to shudder beneath the feeling. “What’re you doing?”

She doesn’t think about the fact that she knows exactly how it feels to dig her short nails into that soft skin. She definitely doesn’t think about the way her boxers peek out from the top of her baggy gray sweats before the sight is finally hidden from view by whatever oversized shirt she picked out. Yeji goes to turn the light off, and then she’s stepping out of her pants and sliding into the bed. “Hi,” she whispers, close enough on the shared pillow that Ryujin can smell the toothpaste on her breath. “Hi.”

Ryujin exhales once she’s alone, in relief or frustration, or whatever nuanced in between, she doesn’t know anymore.
She dims the lights to the lowest possible setting and settles into a familiar stance in front of the wooden dummy. She pulls the glove down to ensure it covers her bionic and lands a heavy blow to the padded section, causing a satisfying thump to echo around the room. She shuffles her weight between her feet and lets the muscle memory take over.
She unleashes blow after blow against the wooden dummy, sticking to the standard reps, working from the centre of the dummy, out to the left, right, and back again.
It feels good, she’s following the steps, envisioning her opponent. Every hit and block cuts her mind off from spiralling into an abyss. It’s a shame though, because with every thought that gets cut off, she realises that she’s so close to committing a cardinal sin of martial arts - she’s so close to shutting her mind off.

She wouldn’t have been surprised if Winter had never been in a hockey fight—or any fight—in her entire life. But when a pretty girl asks you to dance, is there anything to say but yes?

She pulls back, and there’s a dangerous tilt to her smile. “Don’t be sorry, Jinnie. Just be good.”
