Sad Boy Death Hours I Guess - Tumblr Posts
I always did find Death’s expression in that scene a bit odd, as it didn’t quite fit with the overall creepy/dangerous vibe the rest of the scene had, so thank you OP for pointing that out. But I’d like to add that—to me at least—he looks like he’s remembering something or someone right then. Gaze focused off into the distance, his tone soft, expression sad maybe even a bit pained. Makes me wonder if perhaps that line was in regards to people Death thought genuinely deserved to live their life, and wanted them to “escape him” but were unable to for a variety of reasons. Pets like Perrito who unfortunately didn’t manage to get away from abusive owners. Orphans left to die on the street. People who chose to end it all because they believed there was nothing worth living for anymore. Especially with how the fandom has generally agreed that Death would be softer towards those people when he takes their souls.

So I know we all love ol’lobo here for being a terrifyingly cheerful version of the Grim Reaper, but a blink-and-you-miss-it detail I really like about him is that he seems to be genuinely sad when telling Puss In Boots that no one’s ever been able to escape his reach. It’s like on one hand he’s the immortal and invincible literal embodiment of the big inevitability, but on the other hand he’s a sentient entity that, as his wolf form could suggest, is a very social creature. And knowing that there’s not even a chance he’ll ever be able to form a pack, a family, with anyone must be a very lonely thing indeed.
