Main Pairing: Remy LeBeau/Rogue, Jean Grey/Scott Summers, Jubilee & The X-Men

X-men Characters: Jubilee, Remy LeBeau (Gambit), Rogue, Wolverine, Morph, Jean Grey, Scott Summers (Cyclops)

Summary:

“Come on Remy, win and you’ll get something good.” Rogue called out, with a tone that Jubilee knew to avoid… especially on poker nights. That got Gambit’s attention pretty quick, and Jubilee really didn’t want to know what Rogue was promising. Just that Gambit wasn’t playing it so dangerous anymore.

“A good night, Rogue?” Jean teased, and Jubilee quickly covered her ears, and a glance told her that Cyclops was too, with slightly wide eyes. Jean simply laughed at him before whispering in his ear. Jubilee really really didn’t want to know. So she went back to watching the game.

Gambit just had to evade Wolverine for twenty minutes. Twenty minutes and then he wins. However, Wolverine was quick when he wanted to be, and messing with Gambit was his perfect fun.

--- Beginning of Fic ---

Jubilee snickered from where she was curled up on a lawn chair under an umbrella. It was a relatively warm day, and they were all outside enjoying the nice day, and the only day off from training or missions they’d had in a while… Of course Gambit had needed to exert energy and had started a game of tag with Wolverine.

“Come on suga’, I thought you were quicker than that?” Rogue called out, smirking as Gambit paused just long enough for them to see his affronted expression. Jubilee laughed lightly as Gambit’s moment of pause caused him to be tackled by Wolverine who now wore an expression of smugness.

“That was unfair, mon ami.” Gambit groaned, pushing himself up as Wolverine got up himself.

“How was that unfair Gumbo?” Wolverine muttered as Gambit got to standing. They’d been going back and forth for the better part of an hour now, and Jubilee had to wonder just how many bruises Gambit was going to get before he conceded that Wolverine was quicker than he was.

“Rogue distracted me.” Gambit tried, but by the sheepish smile that had crept up showed that he knew he wasn’t going to win. “Again, mon ami?”

“You sure you can handle another loss?” Jubilee called out, getting her own look of offense.

“I’m offended, petite, you don’t think ol’ Gambit can win?”

“You haven’t yet.” Jubilee called back, smiling at Jean who walked past her and handed her a drink. “Thanks Jean!” She was quick to open the can, a smile on her face as she noticed Morph sneaking his way towards Wolverine and Gambit… or towards Gambit, now that Wolverine decided to look back and not tell the Cajun what was approaching.

“I don’t think he can handle the bruises, in all honesty.” Rogue hummed, taking a sip of a drink that Jean had brought her as well. Jubilee smiled at Rogue, trying her hardest not to laugh. She, along with Rogue, lost that particular battle when Morph grabbed Gambit’s shoulders and proceeded to scream as loud as he could.

“Not funny!” Gambit exclaimed loudly… From the ground to which he’d fallen from the scare and shock.

“Sorry suga’,” Rogue giggled, snorting as she set her drink down. She was trying to calm down, but with Jubilee laughing beside her, it took quite a bit of effort. Even Cyclops and Jean were snickering to some degree, and Wolverine was smirking in amusement.

“Okay, one more game.” Wolverine must have taken pity on Gambit, who was pouting at everyone laughing at his apparent misery, even Morph had lost his own battle of wanting to stay silent as he joined the bigger group. “Unless you don’t think you can handle another round?”

“Oui, Gambit can handle another game, mon ami.” Gambit also looked offended at the doubt that he couldn’t.

“He’s going to regret that, isn’t he?” Jubilee asked, tilting her head as she finally started to calm down.

“Oh most definitely.” Rogue responded, a twinkle of amusement in her eyes as she watched after the game. It was definitely a high stakes game, Wolverine and Gambit must have made a bet or wager when Jubilee wasn’t paying attention, because the two were going at this game like they were in battle against sentinels.

“Oh, high stakes today?” Jean hummed, also watching the game with almost rapt attention.

“What did they wager?” Jubilee asked, glancing over as she took a drink of her soda. She was getting a little warm, and she wondered about taking her jacket off and using it to wrap around behind her.

“I’m… not quite sure.” Jean answered, glancing towards her before back at the game. Most of the team was quiet, watching with their full attention, unless they were making small comments about the round.

Tag was always a little terrifying when you watched Gambit and Wolverine play, something about Wolverine's instincts and Gambit liking the feel of being in danger, or something like that. Jubilee wasn’t entirely sure what it was about playing tag with Wolverine, having done it once herself, she found she wasn’t entirely willing to do so again.

Gambit played near daily with Wolverine. Twice if they had training assigned together.

Jubilee found herself waiting in suspense as she leaned forward. Gambit liked playing dangerous when he knew he was safe, she remembered; Barely escaping Wolverine’s grabs and lunges, even a few swipes with his claws when Wolverine would get particularly annoyed by Gambit escaping him.

Gambit just had to evade Wolverine for twenty minutes. Twenty minutes and then he wins. However, Wolverine was quick when he wanted to be, and messing with Gambit was his perfect fun.

“Come on Gambit,” Jubilee murmured, she barely realized she was sitting at the edge of her seat.

“Suga’, you need to lean back a little, you’re going to get sunburned.” Rogue murmured, leaning forward and tapping on the sleeve of Jubilee’s jacket. Jubilee blinked, sitting straight up and turning towards her. She glanced up and realized that she had moved out from under the umbrella.

She smiled as she moved back again, curling up once more and watching the game. Gambit ducked under a wide swipe of Wolverine’s claws, laughing about something that he’d said, and jumping backwards before Wolverine had the chance to turn around to try and grab him again.

“Gambit’s gonna win, Jubilee,” Rogue said decidedly. “He’s got this.”

“For whatever you must have promised him? I don’t doubt that.” Jubilee responded, cupping her hands around her can and taking a sip, humming with a tilt of her head. Rogue merely laughed, another twinkle in her eyes as she mimicked Jubilee.

Another five minutes went by in silence before Gambit scurried up a tree, a particularly large one that had let Gambit up much quicker than it was letting Wolverine up.

The cheer when an alarm sounded had the rest of the team cheering.

“Gambit won!” Jubilee cheered, jumping up, and barely managing to avoid spilling her drink as Wolverine and Gambit dropped down from the tree, one looking less smug than earlier and the other looking proud of himself. Red on black eyes dancing with pride as Rogue jumped up, her drink set on the glass side table that was pulled out for the girls.

“How was that, chère?” Gambit asked, “Petite?” Gambit looked at Jubilee, who stuck her tongue out at him with a smile.
