okay as a gameplay thing I’d like to compliment bg3’s quest design too. there are side quests, yes, but most of the time these side quests have several steps and nearly always tie back into the main story somehow. none of them are fetch quests, most of them involve unique reactions, dialogue, and several possible solutions to the quest itself. many of them extend past the act you first pick the quest up in (the nightsong questline you get from aradin at first feels like it’ll be a relic fetch or dungeon crawl mini quest only to span all 3 acts and tie heavily into the main arc of act 2). many of them are part of the main plot of the game. it makes it feel like every quest was designed with intentionality and purpose in the game itself while never feeling like “filler” for the storyline and no quest is repetitive in the least
