Small BIG Details - Tumblr Posts
This is not as simple as it looks.

I've been on the receiving end of a moving car's windshield (3/4 frontal, smashed into me riding my bike, I basically obliterated it because the driver was NOT going at the speed they should have), and boi that shit hurts like freaking Hell when you smear over it.
Luckly enough it's designed to atomize on impact into little fragments which mostly stick together (it's a mixture of glass merged in a plastic-glue net, which can also prevent small objects to get inside, or trap medium-size ones), in order not to have a big chunk either stab, stick into you, pin you to the seat (if it's big enough, glass can because it's a see-through rock), or slit an important blood vessel. That's why first-aid, rescue and E.R.s are so careful when glass is involved.
But let me tell you, those shrapnels are still flippin' sharp and they go everywhere. I got one stuck in my left pinky's first joint, one in my right's middle finger and another in the ring finger for weeks. And I had leather gloves while riding.
That's why, when I saw this shot, not only I got a nice callback, but I also aggressively shivered thinking "Thank Karma Daisuke has the suit and shielded Haru".
That wouldn't have been pretty otherwise, because that's not a windshield.
Daisuke knows glass is no joke.
Do you see how many pieces he has on his back? Do you see how big those are? Some of our bones are smaller than them.

The suit is glowing while he's standing up: that means it absorbed a lot of mechanical force, aside from the heat. I bet that didn't feel nice either, even with the protection.
That doesn't surprise me; the fragments, propelled by the explosion's shockwave, easily turned into actual arrows and bullets.
This is as dangerous as any other situation they've been in, and Daisuke is highly aware. The laser's burns are almost pinches compared to what could have happened here.
That's a knives' shower he shielded Haru from. The majority of those pieces are just the right size to drill a hole into a vital organ, shatter a bone or slice a neck's artery. This is not just annoying. That's potentially fatal injuries we're talking about.
He kept a small distance and didn't make a dive and embraced him for multiple reasons:
He might not have the time nor speed to reach, bend and squeeze him down, which would have provided Haru the ideal coverage;
Even if he were able to do it and hug him, some parts might still have been left exposed (hands, knees, part of the head);
If they were too close to each other, some shrads might have ricocheted on the suit's surface and hit him with enough force to hurt (eyes don't need much to be damaged). By standing slightly away, he used himself to swerve and neutralize as much energy in the fragments as he could;
He didn't know if the suit might have enough deflecting/absorbtion capacity, so if either a big piece of glass or metal might have been able to plunge THROUGH him...we all know what happens if a metal pole succeedes a vibe-check: it would have skewered Haru as well.
He is guarding Haru's life with his very own and it's so underrated.
