Me: *quotes funny Tumblr post about space being cold and the sun being hot, so there must be an even ground*

Dad: *talks about the Habitable Zone*

Mom: Isn't it amazing to think that if Earth moved slightly off course in either direction, we'd freeze/burn

Me, a space nerd: Did you know that if the Earth were to come to a sudden stop, we'd all go flying?

Dad: Yep. Which direction?

Me: A direction, probably

Mom: Up

Dad: There would be no up

Me: Everywhere

Dad: We'd go flying to the East

Me: Yep. And if the force of the throw doesn't kill us, then we'd suffocate

Dad: Or hit something. Because it wouldn't just be people being flung out, it's animals, and plants, and objects

Me: And anything that's tethered down
