I realise my second last post could be taken as me saying people who stumble across the Manor find the depressive human woman more intimidating than the man-eating spider monster. This is an inaccurate view of things, they find her more intimidating up until the precise moment they realise there’s a man-eating spider monster. Bastion’s host persona is very polite, gentlemanly, more or less indistinguishable from an ordinary human and overall a very gracious host. So it’s kinda hard to believe the weird lady who accidentally jump scared you on your way here and lied about there being anywhere to wait out your car breaking down. Ida also doesn’t really say “There’s a man-eating spider monster in that Manor over there, don’t trust anything he gives you and watch out for traps and non-Euclidean geometry.” Because that’ll get her laughed at. Her most successful rescues have essentially been to tell people that the Manor doesn’t actually have cellphone service before they can get close enough to the grounds for Bastion to contradict that narrative. (Technically there is cellphone service, it’s just not actually powered by the phone companies and shorts out whenever it’s convenient for there not to be mobile phone service. The Manor is your typical closed off horror location like that) Because if Ida has charisma 10 then Bastion has charisma 16 and he absolutely looks like the more trustworthy party to most people.
I think I’ve mentioned before that you can make more proxies/avatars of Bastion by summoning them. Which essentially gives the new proxy permission to exist in the new state you summoned it in. Some Fae in this world use this to go places that their main Oaths and Mantles keep them from. I.E. Every Fae of the Unseelie or Seelie Court are obligated to attend if the acting Monarch calls them. But Fae like Bastion are bound in ways that would keep them from actually showing up as the entirety of themselves. Hence summoning.
