Ready for a hot take? Time doesn't avoid using the fierce deity mask "because it's evil" as it is in fact not evil. It's just that when the fierce deity got sealed into the mask he was 100% done with everything and decided that he was just gonna sleep for the rest of eternity. Except people keep waking him up every time his mask is worn to fight eldritch abominations or whatever and he is not pleasant when he is rudely awoken. He's not always filled with the rage of 1000 suns, he just is whenever someone disturbs his napping.

Time avoids using the mask because

A) the diety's anger at being woken up gets super imposed onto Time whenever he wears it, and it's hard to think straight through the intensity of the god's outrage.

B) the feirce diety's body is just as unhappy about being awake as the god is, so fighting with the mask on both feels incredibly powerful and intensely exhausting at the same time. As in it feels like he could lift a mountain but at the same time his eyelids are just so heavy and if he stops moving he's pretty sure he'll fall asleep on his feet.

C) Time wants to respect the diety's wish to rest. The hero of time does owe the god for helping him defeat Majora after all, it's the least he can do.

D) the fierce deity can be petty about being woken up. The god is not above waking Time up at unholy hours of the night for months after using the mask.

I usually have soft headcanons for you. Today is not one of those days.

The Adult timeline hyrule (aka Wind's timeline) always felt more like home to Time. Even under Ganondorf's rule it still felt more like home than the hyrule Zelda sent Time back to. He only feels at home in his hyrule when he's with Malon.

Visiting Wind's hyrule breaks Time a little each time. Not because it's flooded, but because it still feels like home to him. It hurts him that Wind's Hyrule still feels more like home than his own hyrule. It hurts him knowing that he wasn't there to protect the hyrule that still feels the most like home to him.

He feels guilty for feeling more at home in Wind's hyrule than the hyrule where his wife is waiting for him.

Time is not afraid of cuccos, he actually has a soft spot for them. Sure, when he was young he was afraid of them, but after all the side quests he did revolving around caring for the birds (pocket cucco, cojiro, the quest to get the bunny hood in majora's mask) he came to love the small demon birds.

When Wind it TRULY, murderously furious his face goes completely blank. All emotion just drains from his face. Few have ever seen him like this. It's the most terrifying thing the chain has ever seen when they see it for the first time.

Grog sometimes brings cojiro and cojiro's gaggle of chicks to visit lon lon ranch. All of the Links (except Sky) had a heart attack when they found Time cooing to a very happy blue cucco while a whole flock of colorfull cucco chicks used his lap as a nest.
