“You need to believe in things that aren’t true. How else can they become” - Hogfather, Terry Pratchett
He is proof that male authors are capable of writing good female characters. If you can't, your a bad writer.
Legit don't understand why more people don't read Discworld
Adora Belle Dearheart
She helps the voiceless and will shoot you as soon as look at you. The most cynical person in Ankh-Morpork, yes even more cynical than the legendary Sam Vimes. She's not here for your shit.

Susan Sto Helit
Death's granddaughter, all around badass whether with withering scorn, fireplace pokers, or her grandfather's sword. She will fuck you up.

Angua von Uberwald
Werewolf with a bad hair day (internally, externally her hair is always lovely and soft because she uses dog shampoo). She will go for your throat with a terrifying snarl. Most of the time she lets go. Most of the time.. Don't mess with her.

Granny Weatherwax
Most feared/respected witch on the Disc. Has stared Death in the face numerous times, so much so that Death actually respects her. Whew, you do not want to get on her bad side.

what have I done
Well, who didn't read Pratchett's "Hogfather", easy way to defeat bogeyman is to put a blanket on his head, and there was this episode in bar with drunk bogeyman and Susan, and I just...agskghnhhsusaaan

*давно не было Пратчетта...но это так, чтобы разрядить обстановку, пока совсем не убилась с компановкой тургорских скетчей -__-

Finally finished this Susan Sto Helit piece, just in time to kick off the spooky season!

Messing around with photoshop today…this Susan Sto Helit image is soooooo much better when it’s inverted! (Although I had to adjust things to make the eyes and skull work). Watercolour in general makes really neat textures when inverted.
Susan was sensible. It was, she knew, a major character flaw. It did not make you popular, or cheerful, and--this seemed to her to be the most unfair bit--it didn't even make you right.
Terry Pratchett, Thief of Time
All right,” said Susan. “I’m not stupid. You’re saying humans need… fantasies to make life bearable.” REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE. "Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little—" YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES. "So we can believe the big ones?" YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING. "They’re not the same at all!" YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET—Death waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME…SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED. "Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what’s the point—" MY POINT EXACTLY.
Terry Pratchett, Hogfather
Terry Pratchett had the unique ability to combine a sense of wonder, a touch of wit, an eye for humor, and an ear for the common man and roll it all up into amazing works of fantasy. We are all the richer for having had him among us as long as we did, and still all the poorer for losing him.
I owe much of who I am as a roleplayer (and occasional writer) to his Discworld novels. I still have the darndest time tearing myself away from one once I start reading. Thank you for everything, Sir Terry. We’ll miss you.

fitting by RaetElgnis Headcanon says Susan ditched the Discworld dimension for a while. She ran away to the one her uncle’s family lives in for a while, and while she was there she played nanny for Kid. Because Atsushi Ohkubo is actually a big Terry Pratchett fan and once said Lord Death and Kid were inspired by Death and Susan. Also because Susan has chosen to be a nanny or headmistress of a school to escape duties as a reaper in the books.
The concept of Inheritance in The Star Beast between Donna and Rose mirrors the Death-Susan Inheritance in Discworld. That’s the entire post. I think that weird, somewhat genetic yet also memory based Inheritance resulting in shared issue of power and subconscious personality traits is cool. sue me.
I really like this.

Susans and Grandfathers by Alda-Rana
This week’s theme at the Francophone Classic Whovian Club is ‘Crossover’, so I had to go back to this old WIP of mine that’d been gathering dust for almost a year.
When you think about it, having a granddaughter named Susan is only the beginning of the resemblance between Death and the Doctor. They both like humans and try to act like them, they live in dimensionally transcendantal homes, they have seen the beginning and the end of the world… I think a meeting between them could be quite interesting.
It was also fun trying to imagine what the Doctor’s lifetimer might look like. Certainly worse than Rincewind’s. Bits of it are probably in other dimensions or a few seconds ahead of the rest.
