this was his peace. they had spent centuries together, a little over two; they had watched their homelands destroyed and lost to the carelessness of humanity, they had survived being chased from the waters and hunted for sport-- in truth, they had lived a rather chaotic life together yet it never showed in maeryne's face or how he carried himself. he was at peace, always, at akeselric's side. he was maeryne's peace; he was all the mer needed, and fought for. aksel was all aeryne wanted and he was content to spend the rest of his eternity at the other's side.
relaxing against the other's side on another one of their date nights, limbs almost intertwined as if they were young lovers or a newfound romance, aeryne welcomed the eyes on them. let them stare, he thought. let them see what they are missing out on. he knew some of their stares weren't because he and his love weren't shy and hardly kept their hands to themselves but, rather, were because of the glaring age difference in their appearances. they scandalized themselves by making assumptions of their relationship. they wouldn't be wrong, mind you, if they thought aeryne called him daddy... but they would be wrong if they thought aksel was older. appearances can be misleading.
"mhmm," aeryne hummed at the teasing tickle of his husband's lips against the shell of his ear; from the weight of his hand against his hip, holding him close against aksel's side. "careful, darling, we already have quite the audience. we wouldn't want to traumatize these poor people." he teased with a soft smile and lick of his lips. "it's not even our anniversary."

@unveiledvagabonds; for akeselric to get a little frisky with maeryne.
even after centuries — and they’ve only been together for a little more than two — akeselric had not tired of maeryne; nor would be any time 'soon' or ever, if he was being honest and if he had things his way. he just could not imagine a life without the other. though with the advent of their legs, everything had certainly been a new experience; relative to their lifespan of course.
one would not know they were hundreds of years old with the way they acted. still full of youth and energy, full of love and affection for each other — something that aksel had no trouble displaying, even in public... though you could argue a little too much.
here they were on one of their many date nights, having a quiet but romantic evening in a restaurant. much of their booth was vacant, aksel having crowded into his beloved’s personal space long ago. the merfolk was sure the couple across them were staring but he couldn’t bring himself to really care. not to mention, for anyone watching it would be obvious there was an age gap between them... but not in the way most would think. and now didn't that thought just constantly excite him. aeryne was old than him but aksel looked much older because he'd spent many years scouting and traveling the surface, returning back to the ocean sporadically, all before his husband had joined him topside.

his spaghetti laid on the plate mostly finished. his hand curved around the other's back, dipping just below the waistband and resting on the older's hip. and his lips came up to the shell of his husband's ear, “now do you want dessert, my love? i know i’ve got mine right here already.”

"you flatter me darling but don't discredit yourself. i'm not the only one they tend to have eyes for." that's all any of them would ever be allowed, if they were so lucky; he only strayed, or shared, with their sons. aeryne had no desires for anyone else. he didn't mind them looking and, on occasion, he had his fun with their wandering glances but he already had everything he wanted right there at his side; everything he needed. "how long has it been since our last scandal?" aeryne poised the question with a soft smirk on his lips as his hand fell to rest on his husband's thigh; gripping at the muscle as he leaned up closer against aksel's side. "maybe we're due another one; it'd be so easy to clear the table off for you..." he teasingly tempted.
craning his head back, allowing more access to his throat, fluttering breaths and whispered groans of approval settled on his lips as aksel began to trail soft, quick kisses against his jaw and down the stretch of his neck. whining, so quietly that only a select few would have been able to hear him, goosebumps peppered across his exposed skin and over his arms as he felt his lovers thumb brush against the inch of flesh that had been revealed by the shifting of his shirt.
"the bill," his voice broke a bit as he whispered his answer. aeryne considered trying to drag things out a bit longer, to torment his husband and truly test how patient he could be, but the merman was too intoxicated by his needs now to play the long game. "the bill." aeryne answered again, his voice stronger and louder this time, as he turned his head so he could meet his husband's gaze; a darkened look in his own eyes silently conveying that they had mere minutes, seconds really, before aeryne was all over him.

aksel grinned. "they would be so privileged, to bask in your beauty, elskan mín." he didn't share (well, except with his children). but a tease; to let them see what they can't have? aksel was very much for that. he had an insatiable hunger for maeryne. and most times he didn't care for the time or place. (within certain reasons of course.) "oh trust me. if it was, i would be having you on the table already." there was a reason why those were mostly private affairs. usually near or by the lake. they'd get lost in each other way too often in public. and it was certainly shaping up to be that way tonight — there was no physical way he was going to be able to wait till they were home.
the merman placed a kiss on the other's jaw; before he trailed down to aeryne's neck in soft, quick pecks. nothing too scandalous yet. his arm lifts a little, causing aeryne's shirt and tee to ride up slightly. his thumb stroked the exposed skin on his husband's hip. "now come on, dessert? or the bill?" aksel doubted he could wait for dessert. they'd have to call the waiter over, then order, then wait for it to be delivered, then eat... certainly sounded like too much trouble. he also doubted that his other half would be that cruel to him but maybe he was trying to push his buttons. "before i start eating you up right here."
