That Arent On The Trail !! - Tumblr Posts

hi! fellow wildlife professional in training here. I wanted to say there is definitely a way to get into conservation work that doesn't require so much travel if having a pet is a necessity to you. I know of several people who have done it. you may not be able to take the same kinds of jobs, but you can still work in conservation. I will say it is much harder and you may have to put more work in because it will be even more competitive for you if you are unwilling to travel. most jobs get snapped up really quickly and it can be hard to find local opportunities, depending on where you live. I would suggest doing research into local institutions and looking into conservation work that isn't field and trail work. on the flip side, i am kind of struggling right now because, due to health and personal reasons, I can't travel for long periods of time, but field work is still a passion of mine. I am hoping to make it work, but it definitely is much more difficult. if i can't do it, i will probably pursue something less field based myself. it can be discouraging, but I do think there are niches for different types of work in this field. my heart does ache to be able to do the kind of work you seem to be doing, but I have to believe there is a place for me out there, too, you know? maybe that sounds naive. I don't know. either way, I love your art and I hope to see more about your adventures! sorry if this is a little rambling, I am really bad at sending asks.

Yes, absolutely! This is a really great summary. There are a million ways to participate in conservation, and if your heart is in something, you'll make it work! And anon, I'm sure there's a place out there for you, too - that's not naive at all. ♥️
