I love the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG because it sounds something that a person who doesn't know much about TCGs would make up in order to parody the medium. Like, what if there was a TCG that hated keywording and just stuck a full paragraph of rules on the card whenever a slightly complicated effect comes up, except it has no editorial consistency, so seemingly standardised effects may in fact have multiple variants with subtly different wording which causes each variant to resolve completely differently in specific edge cases? And also, judges' rulings at major tournaments are considered to be precedent-setting for future tournaments even if their conclusions are not subsequently incorporated into the rules, like some sort of TCG Supreme Court, but the lack of keywording and inconsistent phrasing mean that whether a given ruling on card A applies to card B is based on a subjective assessment of "substantial similarity" which is, itself, subject to precedent-setting rulings, such that knowing with certainty what a card actually does may require a complete knowledge of its history of use in tournament play? That'd be fucked up, right? Just kidding, it's not hypothetical at all – it's fucking Yu-Gi-Oh.

not to mention how they finally “officially” added a new zone after the community had been just. using one? For decades? To the point where even the official card sim(s? it's complicated) had it there were even multiple (meta defining!) archetypes that relied on it for whatever reason (kashtira my beloathed) and it didn't even have a name until the year of our torment 2024 it was only an action you could take like “banish your opponent's will to live” or in earlier prints and when we got it the name sucked like “Banishment”? really you're gonna send my pet Beelzebub not to mention Literally Everything Else don't even get me started on the fuckery of getting around non-targetability or whether you can activate an effect based on if it was discarded as a cost or as an effect or how “destroying” is a keyword that has a crucial difference from “sending to graveyard” despite them BEING THE SAME FUCKING THING and that's just the everyday stuff just wait until you hear about the different types of effect activation and how that leads to game boards that literally cannot be played because oopsies! someone played a card which specifically targets a quality that due to another continuous effect lies in quantum flux …and unfortunately it is non-voluntary so the game infinitely recurses on itself until a judge has to come over and make a Decision because technically the game is following all the rules it's just that the rules suck yippee i will say though
