The Nice Found Family/lack Of Romance Focus And Incredible Commentary And Story Are Everything To Me - Tumblr Posts
As a historian, One Piece has always held my mind in a vice grip because it has such a fascinating story about the role of history and how information plays into the present and development of societies and people. A whole aspect of the world is the power dynamics and how the rich (celestial dragons and Imu) have completely erased and suppressed any of the past because it would mean their downfall. They are not good people. They never have been. They do everything in their power to keep their power. Then you have the role of the average person. People like Luffy who only do as they please but have strong loyalty to their friends. Luffy who leads revolutions because he can't stand seeing anyone's freedom suppressed much less his friends.
The amazing juxapostion of Koby, Garp and every good hearted Navy solider is something I adore. Koby tries to fight from within the system as much as possible because he wants to do nothing but good. He wants to save people first and foremost and he acts that way. Also the role of the revolutionary army as another opposition to the pirates and navy. It's just such a fascinating tale about humans and how they interact and develop.
My genuinely favorite part is the background story/history of the world that Luffy and crew have unintentionally unleashed and unraveled just through being themselves. There are so many real life parallels that can be made that make me so crazy /pos.
After over a year, I am caught up on One Piece once more and let me tell you. I'm Insane.
The amount of mysteries and story told in those 40 or so chapters I missed is insane.
As someone who's favorite arc has been Skypiea and one of my favorite aspects of the series is just the world and its history as a whole, this is legitimately everything.
Oda's incredible storytelling and ability to maintain such a consistent story this whole time is so admirable honestly. The amount of call backs and full circle moments is incredible.
