See, I think the reason they chose the pink one was because the directors already KNEW the movie goers would be fanning themselves every time he showed up on screen; plus they didn't want him to outshine the main character, who is also rather good looking in my opinion, so they told the costume designer that instead of putting him in a sort of pale blue or dove grey or even crisp white kimono, or the brown one like he would later wear in Shogun that makes him look like a Jedi Master, to instead, put him in a pink floral one to minimize the casualties.

Because I know for a fact, that I'd have never been able to finish the movie otherwise because I'd have to keep pausing it every five seconds like I did with The Last Samurai because HEEEEEECK!

That pink silk robe and the moustache must have been an attempt of the costume department of The Promise to actively undermine his sexiness because there's no other explanation for that hideous thing 😂

I think we can all agree. Men look really good in armour. ♥️♥️ And by men, I mean this man, specifically.
