Dola, by any chance is your favorite color blue? 'Cause it's mine... and I associate it with you. You're my favorite 🥰

—&&. @kaiakaya !! 🤍

What a coincidence because I just so happen to adore blue—though perhaps, not as much as I adore you?

Good, good, because I wouldn't either~

Though I have to say, pink looks pretty good on you too.

Dola leans further back into the plush backrest of the sofa she was sitting on, cheek bit as she quickly thought over the question.

"I'll come over," she answers. "Want anything specific for snacks during our brainstorming session? I can pick something up on the way to your place."

She glances to the mess of fabric and lace scraps strew about in a small pile to her side and the open sketchbook full of samples of dainty calligraphy. Swatches of textiles were stuck to the currently open spread too; hopefully the glue will dry down enough for her to pack the sketchbook soon.

"I'll be there within the hour if you don't mind?"

"Kaia, any chance you'll be free for a bit of brainstorming over some tea sometime soon? I have an idea for a little project I'd like to work on, and I figure you'd be someone I can trust for the job."

"Hmm?" Kaia places the phone between her shoulder and her ear, reaching up to grab a book from one of her shelves. But Dolasach's words make her pause, and her expression immediately brightens. "A project? I mean, sure! I'm actually free right now, you did call at a pretty good time! D'you plan to meet up somewhere? Ooorrr... You could come over, if you want?"

Dolasach heard the commotion unfold from the other side of the call, her brow instantly furrowing as she tried to make sense of what might be happening. Surely she won’t have to drop the call to contact emergency services instead?

“Kaia?”

She breathed out a sigh of relief when she heard her voice and laugh come through, glad that she was at least okay enough to keep talking as though nothing really happened. For a moment, she wasn’t sure of what to even say or address first. In the end, she just trusted that Kaia was fine and that she wasn’t calling at a bad time.

“I’m—okay, yeah, I can bring some fruit. See you in an hour, and um, stay safe, yeah?”

After bidding her goodbyes, she ended the call and got to work packing a few things for reference. Concern for her friend aside, she was looking forward to a productive day talking over some ideas for this project.

By the time she arrived at Kaia’s place, about 45 minutes had passed. One hand held onto a small bag of assorted berries and fruit, while the other gave the door a few knocks. Hopefully now was a good time to be here?

Dolasach greets her friend with a grin and a little wave, very quickly checking her for any signs of injury as she responded.

"Of course. It's been quite a while, somehow." She chuckles, a hint sheepish. "I've been so immersed in my work that I didn't realize I've barely left the house this month."

The cookies don't take long to be spotted as she entered Kaia's home, the delectable scent working to excited her even more about their little meeting. The fruits were neatly unpacked by the cookies; she popped the container full of mixed berries open, though instead of taking one, she reached for a cookie instead before sitting down.

She takes a bite and chews it thoughtfully. “So… I’ve been thinking of trying my hand at calligraphy and mesh embroidery, and I thought it would be fun to mesh the both of them together.”

From her day bag, she pulls out her tablet and quickly opens it to a few examples of elegant calligraphy that had been embroidered onto sheer mesh, as well as a few more typically embroidered themes such as florals and lace-like detail. She hands the tablet to Kaia, a hint of excitement in her eyes.

“Something like these. I’d like to try something that’s… also a little abstract that could pass off as a pattern, but for that I need more than just a handful of words to play with.”

“Hey, I get plenty of sun! The windows at Mo Art are massive,” she says, but she very much understood what Kaia was getting at—especially with that pointed look she got.

“But I’ll get out more, swear. Don’t complain if I start showing up here more often, though.” She narrows her eyes at her friend and gestures warningly at her with her cookie, all in good fun. Especially since now that she thought about it, she’s probably only left the house a handful of times since quitting her job as a Hunter. Though she certainly isn’t going to tell Kaia that.

She nibbles on her cookie as she waits for Kaia’s reaction, almost choking on it at the praise and turning a little pink.

“You’re too nice—I’m more than certain that several other textile artists have had similar ideas. I still want to explore what I can do, though, and I’m happy you’re into the idea too.”

To the point where Kaia’s offering to write something herself? The grin on Dolasach’s face was massive, and there’s that excited twinkle in her eyes again.

The cookie gets finished off and she leans back into her seat, thinking. There’s a small lingering smile that keeps her expression light and bright.

“The themes I work with are usually about dreams, longing, death… But…” She tilts her head. “I kind of want to try working on something a little happier, more hopeful. I’d like my first project with a dear friend to be something less morose, you know?”
