The Eagle & the Serpent in The Sign
As a lover of tattoos, I noticed in the trailer that Phaya has wings tattooed on his back as well as another design.

Also in the trailer for the show, there was a shot of a book titled Legend of Naga & Garuda.

They are important mythical (and religious) entities. Garuda is a birdlike deity and is in a constant battle with snakelike Naga.

We saw them in the trailer as well.

The title card for the series also features them. The eagle is on the left and the serpent is on the right with its tail being the top of the wording.

This is Naga in creature-form confronting our Garuda in human form .

Phaya comes from a wealthy family (in any life).

And was in the air force before being recruited into the special investigations unit, which could be the reason for the wings tattoo.

So who could the serpent in human form?

And because I always pay attention to colors, Chalothon wears green ties, so this could be him or someone sent on his behalf watching Tharn.

In the trailer, Phaya speaks to a woman wearing a gold serpent crown and serpents on her necklace.

She mentions her sister will find Phaya in any life, and when we see Wansarat, she shares the same accessories with a serpent belt and bracelets as well but in green.

She was Naga's in their past lives.

But in this life,

she will be Phaya's.

Because Phaya is "of the air" he will struggle with water.

And he has since he was a child.

In the tale of Garuda and Naga, their conflict stems from powerful water that Naga possessed.

Note that there are three kids who see Phaya drowning: Tharn, Yai, and another unnamed kid.

One kid appears to wear green.

Wild Ass Theory - That kid is Chalothon and he had something to do with Phaya being in that water.

Tharn's parents died in an accident when he was a child, and he almost died as well.

He has the gift of foresight, and Garuda's most known wife is Unnati who was known for her wisdom. His gift is tied to karma, and as a child, he was told to free himself from the person he was tied to in a previous life, he needed to return a protective amulet to its owner.

Two Theories - I think for Tharn to no longer be tied to Chalothon, he had to save Phaya who is the person Chalothon has wronged in the past (and possible present) or Wansarat betrayed Chalothon by saving Phaya in a previous life therefore tying them together forever, and she must save him in every life now.

So when will the necklace reappear?

Because Phaya seemed to be wearing some sort of necklace when he confronted Tharn in the bathroom.

Bonus: We have a lion on the squad.

And Yai's girlfriend, Sand, is played by Yoshi who is transgender and Miss Tiffany's Universe 2017, so Yai better keep his eye on the prize and quit looking at other girls.

ok I started watching the sign just to figure out what the hell all y'all's posts are about but tbh i'm even more confused now. like. cop school for cops? prophetic visions? bare ass? why is there a sea serpent?? and why is the sea serpent Freen Sarocha???
The Sign is about special forces cops, a murder mystery, mythical creatures, and supernatural abilities ... but will that stop someone from pulling out a guitar and making one lead sing to the other???
NO.

I feel compelled to do another Saint appreciation post. He started in the business so young, went through some super unfair shit, and came out of it not only determined to be a total boss, but also deeply caring about good LGBTQ+ representation and good storytelling. Not to mention his ability to listen to what people want - not just what producers and sponsors claim that people want. He is pushing the industry, finding amazing talent to work on his projects both in front of and behind the camera, and is bankrolling it primarily himself, because sponsors are fucking dumb and don't understand how horny we all are for these types of stories.
Well done Sir!

I don’t think the freen that lured Phaya into the river is the same as the one that saved him in episode one. The crown and necklace are different. Even the outfit is slightly different. Plus Tharn sensed that Phaya was in danger. I don’t think the real one would do that to Phaya. There’s also the smirk as Phaya is walking towards her in a trance. Also the birthmark on the left eye is missing. lol maybe I’m reading too much into it. The show really does live rent free in my head 😂
Wait ... is that Lhong (or whatever he's called this time) crying on his shoulder???
Hmmm. The plot is plotting.

My Evil Naga King
The Sign has everything. Reincarnated gay soulmates. 'Everyone I love dies' curses. Drunk shenanigans. Hot sirens. Psychic visions. Vigilante serial killers. Butts. Gays with guns. Supportive ally bros. DRAGONS. Queer found family. Tourism adverts. Trans icon Yoshi Rinrada. It's like someone polled a bunch of queers about what they like, couldn't choose from the results, and just decided to go with everything. Phenomenal.

The Garuda and Naga fight we are waiting for...

Let me tell you what it's too damn early for
Dreams?
What I really want is for Phaya and Tharn to find out that these aren't just dreams, but that they're sharing them and projecting into each other's dream world. Here me out.
Last episode, Phaya "dreamed" Tharn in his bed as his bolster, but dream!Tharn was wearing what he wore to sleep that night -- an outfit Phaya didn't see because he was still fully clothed during that video call that the Dr interrupted.
Dream!Tharn in Phaya's bed:

Real Tharn in his own bed:

So how did Phaya's mind know what Tharn was wearing to sleep? The last time he saw Tharn during the video call, he was wearing this:

This episode, Tharn has a sex dream about Phaya, then they BOTH wake up horny. Tharn is feeling himself up while cooking breakfast and Phaya is making a series of over the top innuendos.

The Sign Cast Reaction:

RELATABLE
Hi! I love reading your opinions and I have just started The Sign. What are your opinions on the show and what route are you hoping it would take for the second half of the show? Take care and happy new year!
Hello anon! You picked such an interesting moment to send this ask. We’re halfway through the show and I think its strengths and weaknesses have become fairly clear. Let's talk about it!
Strength: The Chemistry

I think this is the thing that had all the girlies losing it right out of the gate: Phaya and Tharn are hot and their interactions are hotter. The pull and chemistry between them is palpable and the set up for their romance is compelling. Kudos to whoever found Babe and decided to pair him with Billy: you, sir or madam, are incredible at your job and deserve a fruit basket. We are all dying for these two to finally fuck.
Weakness: The Pacing

Which is why it's kind of frustrating that the show is dragging its feet on letting their relationship advance. The first four eps were delicious tension-building, but as the show starts to stall and use dream sequence fakeouts to provide smut without actual relationship development, the audience is clearly getting antsy. The show's pacing is all over the place in general, with wildly varied episode lengths and inconsistent action and plot advancement from week to week. And the desire to drag out the romance without a compelling alternative plot to fill the show in its absence is causing some damage to the characters, most notably Tharn, who is just starting to seem unreasonably antagonistic to a person we know he likes, not to mention unperceptive in his continued inability to notice what is going on around him.
Strength: Production Values

This show is absolutely gorgeous; you can tell most of the money went into making every frame of it beautiful. The strength of the production values and hard work of the crew to create the look and feel of the world was evident from the first episode with all those beautiful training sequences on the beach. And this is used to particularly strong effect whenever we visit Phaya and Tharn's past lives and see the magical world that exists around them come to life.
Strength: The Supporting Cast

The show also has a great ensemble, with Yai especially a standout character who brings a lot of fun to the show, along with his girlfriend Sand and the police squad bros. This is not surprising, as big, messy, chaotic, endearing queer friend groups are an IdolFactory staple. As of last week, we officially have a lesbian side pairing! Tharn and Phaya also have interesting family histories with sweet grandmas and loved ones who lend depth to their characterization.
Weakness: The Copaganda

It was perhaps too much to expect that this bl about cops would have a more sophisticated perspective on law enforcement, institutional corruption, and the so-called "justice" system, but that does not stop me from groaning out loud every time they pause the story to let these characters wax poetic about the nobility of their jobs.
Strength: Thai Folklore

This show is teaching all of us some things about real Thai folklore about the garuda and nara, including local customs associated with celebrating these tales, and the depiction of these stories in the show is just beautiful. Despite it basically being a tourism advert (complete with couple shirts for no reason??), I really enjoyed the episode that took us to Nong Khai and the Mekong River to see how modern Thai folks interpret and celebrate the myths at the center of this show’s story and ground us in something real.
Weakness: An Underdeveloped Take on Toxic Masculinity

This show uses violence quite a lot in its story, including violence in interpersonal dynamics, and it sometimes seems to want us to be alarmed by uncontrolled male anger, and sometimes impressed by it. At this point, Tharn and Phaya have both struck each other in anger during personal disagreements, and there hasn't been any real reckoning with the fallout of that. On top of that, the show has given us some crime cases that highlight the harm of toxic masculinity while also seeming to glorify and revel in it, most notably in the framing of a man who kidnapped and retraumatized sexual assault victims as a hunky folk hero. It's a confused take, to say the least, and I'm not sure the show has the depth and precision necessary in the writing to take on some of what it's throwing at the wall.
Strength: Villains

All I can say is Heng was born to play an evil snake god. The show has done a good job at making him feel like a real threat and building the antagonism between him and Phaya to the point where Phaya has been isolated from support and made to look crazy in front of Tharn. Dr. Slow Motion is very good at this.
So, what's the TL; DR? This show is a lot of fun, but has some obvious weaknesses in the writing, so do your best not to take it too seriously if you can. I am ready to see Phaya and Tharn get together and finally start working as a team, for the full backstory and epic battle they are waging to come out, and for the motivations of the rest of the cast of characters to become clear (I just know there are some additional past life reincarnations waiting to be revealed). It's a great time if you don't think about it too hard, and I really hope the back half will pick up the pace so that we can all just enjoy the ride.
This is probably my favourite reaction to Phaya asking Wanwisa what the story of Sakuna and Wansarat has to do with him in episode eight.

“What does all of this have to do with me!?”

*checks to see if Billy has a fever or is ill in full blown sassy gay man mode*

Billy: “She said a lot but he didn’t listen at all!”

*taps next to Billy’s ear* “Did you hear that?”
