Summary: Enid, a teenage human who have lived alone ever since her parents were killed by the Na'vi people when she was 8 years old living in a forest near the Awa’atlu village. She was on her own and solving the biggest mystery in her home when an Omaticaya boy, Neteyam, bugged her life.
“Who are you?” I asked bravely after watching the Omaticayan na’vi entered my territory inside the nearest forest of the Awa’atlu village. No Metkayinan ever entered that forest because they know nothing of that kind of place and they were never fond of lands.
I was facing behind him with a bow aiming at him. He could feel that weapon even from far away so he did not dare to move. “You’re one of the sky people.” He announced, quite certain.
“I said, who are you?” I repeated, this time I was more intense and eager at releasing the poisonous arrow across his head.
He slowly raised his hands on his head and carefully turned to see me, in return, I grasped my arrow tightly, ready to shoot at any moment. "I'm Neteyam."
"Go back. You can't be here."
"This is a forest, I'm an Omaticayan, this is my home."
My eyebrows arched in annoyance. "Well, not this one. Go back or this arrow will go through your skull." I moved forward unhesitatingly to show him that I'm not afraid of doing what I said. He stepped back, fear on his face.
"Look, I just miss my home, okay?" he started explaining as he lowered his hands. "I've been in the ocean for too long and I just want to somehow enjoy the home I used to call. They told me this place is very dangerous and I've been ordered to never come here. But I want to see myself."
I studied him and when I confirmed that he's just a mindless na'vi, I drew back my bow and hung it behind my back. "You should have listened to them. This is no place for any Na'vi."
Confusion flustered on his face. "Then why do you live here? This world is even more dangerous for you"
Suddenly, a rasp sound occured somewhere behind the trees. I got tensed and kept a keen eye around me, forgetting about the na'vi in front of me.
Neteyam chuckled at my reaction. "It's probably just some wild harmless animal. If you live in this forest, you should now."
I ignored him and focused on the rasping sound nearly coming to our place. "Skawng" I hissed.
He was about to protest again and probably insult more when the sound became louder and nearer, his ears twitched. Suddenly, fear crossed his face as if the sound wasn't familiar.
I started locating the sound. Even though I'm a human, I've developed and practice my hearing to become sharp. Because I've been all alone in my life, I had to train myself to adapt and be wary of this dangerous world, for me at least.
The rasping stopped. But I knew that something terrible is gonna happen. And with a blink of an eye, two black angry forest animal came to attack the both of us. They were almost as big as the Na'vi in front of me.
While the animal was still on the air when it jumped, I released my arrow and it hit its arm. It fell down to the ground but didn't affect it, rather, it became angrier, growling, and charging at me. When it started running again towards me, I readied my bow and aimed straight at its head until it fell down and died.
On the other hand, since Neteyam was unprepared and weaponless, the animal almost knocked him down but he blocked it and threw it with all his strength against a tree. Unfortunately, he got scratch on his chest. He hissed in pain.
Neteyam was about to prepare himself from the next attack of the animal but he suddenly lost balance of himself and almost fell down.
"Shit." i murmured when I saw the wound on his bare chest with two scratches directly from the claw of the animal.
I didn't waste any second and before the animal even make its move, I prepared my bow and hit it right through its head which immediately died.
"You stupid fuck." I said then run to the na'vi. He was bleeding, but it's not the mere wound I was worrying about.
"It's fine, it's just some scratch." He said with a faint smile but his face is starting to get pale. "I can just go home and... and." he didn't finish his statement because he fell down to the ground, very unconscious and ill.

Neteyam's POV
There was something bothering me about that 'dangerous' forest these Metkayinan people were warning me about. Dad have strictly warned us to listen despite the temptation and I'm trying my very best to stop my siblings most especially, my brother Lo'ak from disobeying that order. We've brought enough shame to the family.
But I always find my self staring at that forest. Missing our former home, yes, but there's more.
Until one day, when I was riding my Ilu alone, I saw a small figure standing from there. At first, I couldn't believe what I saw, but then, it started to become clear. It's a sky person.
It's a female. Unlike those sky people that I've known for years who wear clear glasses of mask that cover their whole face to breathe, this one is wearing a black mask that only covers her nose and mouth. The only feature I could see is her eyes. Staring at the sea, examining something.
She didn't see me but she left and vanished between the trees.
I knew I had to follow her and do something. What exactly? Honestly, I don't know. I was too drown with curiosity.
Then next things happened so fast and I just found myself in pain and slowly fainting to the ground.
---
The first thing that I felt was my soul being forcefully dragged back to life and I had to open my eyes in shock and cough so many times. After being internally tortured, pain in my chest started occurring because of my sudden action.
"Aghh-" crisis started and I don't know whether to continue coughing to relieve my inernals or to stop to put an end for the pain in my chest.
But in the end, I decided to calm down. My eyes were shut trying to feel my whole, body.
After few minutes, I finally calmed down and memories started to come back. I opened my eyes only to see that I'm curled in a small white bed with a mask on my face.
What's crazier is a sky person standing in front of my bed staring down at me, in disgust.
"You." I uttered when I saw the last woman I've been with before I've been knocked down.
Unlike before, she's not wearing her black mask so I could see her face now. She looks young, like spider, and It's very odd for me because I've never seen a young female sky person person before. But that's my least concern for now.
"Me what?" she asked sarcastically.
"What happened to me?" I check my self and found white cloth wrapped around my chest where the wounds were.
"You almost saw your God. But you survived..." she walked back to go to a table where I guess the medicines were placed. "...unfortunately." she continued.
"Why? I don't understand. I was just bruised by an animal but I lost my consciousness. And it's not even that deep."
She turned to look at me with an angry expression pasted on her face. "Yea, that's why I told your stupid ass to get the fuck out, because this place is not for outsiders. Those venomous animals smelled you and attacked you. You could have died, which in my dismay you did not. Now you're in my place and I don't know why I even healed you." she burst out, shook her head as she turned around again to clean the mess on the table.
I looked down. "Thank you for saving me."
Her body stopped from doing anything and looked at me in disbelief.
"Okay, umm, I'll just go home. I need to get home before eclipse." I looked for any windows inside her small place but found nothing.
"It had passed. You've been out for about 15 hours and sun is about to rise." She explained which shocked me.
"What?!" I burst out. Mom and Dad's gonna kill me. "I really need to go." even with pain in my chest I got up and was ready to run when something hard on my wrist stopped me from running away.
"What the.." I looked at my hand and saw a round metal connected to a chain glued to the wall. "What's this? Take this out, I need to go." I tried to break it but it didn't bulge a bit.
A sarcastic smirk played on her face. "And risk my place? No."
Anger occupied my head. "You need to let me out of here. I'm not telling about your place, I promise. Please. They may be looking for me now, furious, and I'm telling you, they will not stop."
"What? Am I supposed to believe you and let you out?"
"I'm telling you, by not letting me out immediately, you're risking your place even more." I was hesitant to say anything further, but I was eager to be freed. "My father, he's a warrior. He was the Olo'eyktan of my former clan and he's not gonna stop until he finds me. And I'm sure that they're targeting this place maybe not now but soon enough. And I'm warning you, he would kill you. THEY would kill you if they found that your specie lives here. He's toruk makto."
With my last sentence, her eyebrows raise. "Shit. You're Jake Sully's son?"
I was not shocked that she knows my father so I nod. "Yes. And you don't want to experience his wrath."
But she didn't seem to hear what I said. Suddenly, she laughed. Laugh that sounds amused and challenged. "I can't believe it. I kidnapped his son. But I don't get it. You don't look like him. You look... stupid."
I rolled my eyes and try to maintain my temper. "I'm not stupid." I whispered doing my best not to oppose her insult. "I'm a warrior like him. And once I get out from here, you wouldn't like it."
She laughed. "Warrior? Yea. You almost got killed by a wild animal in a 2 second battle."
I gritted my teeth in annoyance and in embarrassment. "It was a surprised attack and I have no weapon."
"You expect your enemy to schedule a fight for you to prepare?"
I was taken aback by her statement. I was speechless.
When she noticed that I wasn't able to answer back, she a sky people's cloth with long sleeves and put it on her. "I don't care who your parents are. You're staying here where I know you wouldn't spill about my place." she said walking away.
"Wait, where are you going? Let me out of here! What am I supposed to do here? You can't use me for anything."
She laughed as if it was the dumbest thing she have ever heard. "I know that fact. And I'm still thinking what to do with you. Probably starve you to death? I don't know and I don't care. Plus, I'm not actually really fond of 9ft tall blue cats so who knows?" she said as she wore her black mask then opened the door and walked outside.
"Hey! Hey!" I shouted trying to call her but she never returned.
Cats?? What's that?

Enid's POV
It's getting worse
Right after I got out from my small lab/house, I wandered around the forest. I made sure that I sprayed this repellant I made that removes my scent against the nose of the animals here.
The sun is already up and I was examining the plants and trees I see. Their colors are starting to pale, some even fall indicating it's dead.
Trees have small black spots on their trunks meaning that they've also been infected.
It's almost seven months since this epidemic has started. I have no clue where this chemical came from, but it's affecting mostly my forest. Animals started to get wild, venomous, and dangerous. Plants are starting to die and be poisonous. I always have to run a test at every food I bring home before cooking it.
Before, I was chill and safe around these living things, not until one of the wild animals, with big nasty open pores on its back, attacked me. When I dissected it after I killed it, I saw something wrong with its system.
And I knew then, had to put an end to this.
My neighbours-- the Na'vi people which doesn't know I exist near them-- soon will be affected. If this unknown chemical infected the water; their home, no matter how vast it is, it'll be dangerous for them.
I went near a tree with the worst infection that makes it look almost black. Taking the little knife in my pocket and gloves on my hands, I burried it to the trunk to get some samples, and to my horrify, it's like digging some dirt.
It's totally black, sticky, and disgusting. I wrapped it around this small fabric I brought then carefully putting it in my bag.
Roaming my eyes around, I can't help but feel sorrow. It used to be very healthy and lively, now, it's like gasping for breathe.
I closed my eyes. "I'll save you. I will give everything I have to repay you your kindness and shelter for the past years."
---
It's already sunset when I came back to the lab with samples and couples of food to test and hopefully to eat. The small garden I built in front of it can't seem to bear fruits which I think because it's also affected, that's why finding foods became a lot more struggles for me.
As I opened the door, I was almost thrown back by loud scream, growls, and barks from the inside that I had to slam the door close after going in, afraid that some creatures might here the noises.
"Get away from me!" Neteyam tried to frighten the small animal on the floor by hissing like a cat, but to no avail. He's standing on the bed and because he's too tall, he had to bend while his bruised wrist was tied in a chain.
I rolled my eyes. I've almost forgotten about this blue creature I kept.
I clicked my tounge and the Baby Mongrel stopped to look at me. "George, here." its enraged face turned into a thrilled one as it run to me, brushing its head on my leg.
"You keep that as a pet?!" Neteyam exploded, panting. "You don't keep a mongrel as a pet."
I shook my head as I laid the things I gathered on the table including my mask. "In case you don't know, I'm color brown, 5 and a half. I'm not a Na'vi."
I didn't waste any time and took every samples out of the fruits to run the test in the machine. It usually takes 10 minutes or so, so I also pulled the sample from the infected tree.
"Are you really not planning to let me go?" He asked, sitting down. He's looking at his wrist which turned to red probably because of his attempt to run.
With the use of tweezer, I detached a bit from the nasty trunk. "Nope." I answered, almost in a whisper.
He bit his lip. "I hope you know that I'm actually thinking about your safety and your place as well. I'm okay being scold at, but this is your home and they'll destroy this." he explained which I didn't give much care about.
"Mhm..." I answered again as I put the sample in the microscope slide and place it on the stage of the microscope to look at it.
"They could just toss you around then kill you."
I nodded. "...mhm..."
"What's that?" I didn't know what Neteyam was talking about because I was busy investigating, so I didn't answer him.
My eyes widened with what I saw. Unlike before, I could only see the chemicals combined with the cells of plants, but now, because the cells are dying, I had a better look at those molecules. It's very familiar.
"Shit." I said as I backed away.
"What? Why?" Neteyam seemed to be intrigued and wanted to take a look too but he couldn't reach it. "What's that, tell me."
"It's from a substance on Earth." I said in amusement knowing well that it's a statement for myself.
"Tell me what's going on." he demanded, uneasy maybe because he wanted to relate to my reaction.
I was hesitant to tell him but I was dumbfounded. "The chemical that's killing this forest came from a substance on Earth. Which means..." i paused for a bit. "...they're here. Near this forest."
"Killing the forest? This forest is dying?!" he said in awe. I didn't entertained him more because he's in no need to catch up. It's my business, not his.
I started thinking about the possibilities of how it happened. I've been roaming around for months, there's no sign of sky people. It doesn't make sense.
"Let me help you. Come on, let me help you cure this forest."
I shook my head trying to solve my mystery. "No" but I still answered him.
His chains started to make sound as he, again, tried to get out. "Please. Forest is my home, I can't just sit here and wait for it to die. I want to help this forest. Please--"
In annoyance, I rolled my eyes. I can't think properly with his noises. "Okay, help me."
His face brightened. "Really? How?"
"Shut your trap. You're fucking annoying." then his shoulders dropped.
George might have felt my anger so from licking its legs, he started growling as Neteyam again, which in return Neteyam hissed at it.
"George." I called so he went back to licking.
"Look, let me help you. I know you know that I'll be a great help. An Omaticayan on your side, we can totally save this forest."
I raised one of my eyebrow. "You really have that confidence with yourself?"
"No, I'm just stating a fact. I'm not trying to show off or anything. I could help you, big time."
I checked him out. But nothing in him convince me that he's not reckless and a mess. His overall looks shouts disaster. Even his annoying begging smile disgusts me. "No." once again.
He started bit his lip as his fists rolled. "You won't succeed." he finally said. I could hear the emphasis in every word. "You're alone and, well, small, you'll gonna consume more time. And before you even find a cure, this forest will die. Don't try to be independent, it won't do you any good."
I sighed shakily, trying to control my temper. But it seems my temper IS controlling me. "That's it." I went to a small drawer nearby and pulled out a magnet.
I hastily walked to him then crawled to the bed. He was confused when I grabbed his big hand where the chain is and put the magnet on the metal on his wrist. In a second, the chain opened. And I got up, presenting the door.
"You're fucking free. Get out."
His mouth fell down. Not in surprise, but because he's angry. "No, I'm not getting out. You kidnapped me, you have to take full responsibility." he said, sitting at the edge of the bed.
I rolled my eyes. "That's why I'm letting you out, you fucking. donkey."
"No, I'll help you. I've decided."
"You really wanna die?"
He smirked. "Why? You're gonna fight me?"
"No, but the oxygen will."
"You can't fool me. I have a mask--"
"--which lasted probably an hour ago and you're just breathing oxygen now."
His face started to burn in anger, thinking what to do. He know he can't just dismiss what I said. He can't risk it.
"ARGH!" After a minute of contemplating, he finally stood up, throwing his mask on the bed. He looked down at me, I thought he was gonna say something but he was just enrage.
Stomping his feet, he walked to the door, his braids swaying with his aggressive actions.
I smirk knowing I won. "Call your Ikran. You'll die on the road."
He opened the door and slamed it shut behind.

My morning was a cloud 9 because I had very long sleep after I didn't get enough the other night taking care of Jake Sully's son. He was also in my bed, may I add. And knowing that I'm one step closer in solving my mystery, I was at bliss.
I cooked some foods for myself from the fruits I picked yesterday. From a small door made just for George in the lab, he entered wagging its tail happily. It's a good thing that George is a picky eater. It's like he's really made to be a house pet, he doesn't eat anything in the wild I didn't serve for him. Therefore, I don't have to worry that he might anything poisonous along his way.
I served his food on the bowl I made just for him and made him eat it as aI eat my own. After our breakfast, I took some papers and pen to list down all the things in the forest that could possibly be a cure or part of the cure. It took me a whole page to finish it. I've got no much time. I need to find a temporary cure as soon as possible.
I wore my jacket on me then my mask that I just refilled with oxygen. I, then, opened my door together with George to feel the fresh wind.
"Let's go George." I joyfully announced then we walked away.
"Good morning, sunshine." my body froze and George growled hearing that voice coming from the roof of my small lab. I shut my eyes tightly then slowly turned around, hoping this is all a nightmare and I'm just sleeping on the wrong side of my bed.
"What are you doing here?" I asked the Na'vi sitting at my roof as if it's some branch of a tree eating some fruit in his hand. A smile was playing on his lips as if we were some friends of sort.
"Come on now..." Neteyam threw the fruit as he finished then jumped landing right in front of me. "...it's not like I didn't tell you last time that I've decided to help, right?"
"And it's not like I permitted you to do so." I argued back.
He tilted his head as he looked down at me as his height literally towered over me. "Don't be rude. It's so early in the morning. How about you just lay back to your soft bed, tell me what to do, and I'll do all the job for you--"
"Aren't your parents looking for you?" I asked seriously trying to intimidate him.
"Maybe..." He looked around then back at me. "...but I can handle a whole day scolding just to help this forest."
I stared at him a bit more, realizing that unlike his father, he's got no eyebrows nor fifth finger. I think he got it with his mom.
I rolled my eyes trying not to ruin my day. I didn't say any word as I started walking away to god-knows-where. And I think Neteyam took it as a sign that I approved of his presence because he was gracefully following, like a kid jumping most of the times.
"So, what's your name?" he asked, smiling, his fangs showing. He was bending his neck to see me and it kind of annoyed me.
Without any notice, I changed path. I saw the tree I need to get the first element on my list.
"Hey." Neteyam called but he easily caught up to me. Now, we both stood in front of a tall tree. "I was asking you a question."
"And why would I say my name to you?" I answered just for the sake of talking while checking on the leaves that sit at the very top of the tree. I can't use dry leaves, I need fresh one, unfortunately there's none reachable for me.
"Because you need to get used to me. I'll be tailing you around."
I sighed. "Enid." I simply answered then went around the tree to try my luck and find an accessible fresh leaves in which he followed me, clueless.
"Init?"
I rolled my eyes. "E-Nid." I emphasized.
There was a big "O" formed in his lips as if he was amused by my name. "Enid." he said dreamingly. "That's very beautiful. We can work on that." he nodded continuesly.
My shoulders dropped when we circled back to where we arrived, yet, there are no leaves to be found.
"Well, what have we got here?" finally, his attention shifted to where I was looking-- the tree. "You need something from there?"
I looked at him having a clue what might happen in the next minutes. "Yes. I need fresh leaves from this tree."
He nodded smirking. "And you can't reach it, can you?" he was trying to keep it cool, but he can't seem to hide his playful smile.
I scratched my forehead. "Unfortunately." it was almost a whisper.
His smile grew wider that he had to look at his side to hide it then bring his gaze back at me again. "Well, that's sad. It seems you need someone expert at climbing trees to help you."
I tried not to look at his teasing face. "Yea."
He started checking my face, probably having fun because he'll finally hear something he wants to hear. "But you don't need any help, right? Just like what you said before. So I was thinking that maybe you could handle it yourself. C'mon, climb it--"
"Could you please..." I looked at his eyes trying to control my temper. "...just climb the damn tree and get some leaves?"
He pouted and stepped back, acting scared, playfully of course. "Why are you acting mean? You're just asking something from me. Could you at least be nice about it?"
"There's no way I'm going to beg for you to do a simple task."
"Oh it's fine. It's fine. I can also easily decline you and we can both stare at it until Eywa give it to you."
I bit my lip. "Fuck it." I hissed. "Fine."
I rolled my eyes and sighed in defeat. It took me a few seconds to build the words in my lips. "Neteyam..." I swallowed annoyingly when he started smiling again, like a kid waiting for the next lines, as his tail started to wag. "...can you climb this tree and get me some fresh leaves..." I was planning to end the statement there when Neteyam raised his non-existing eyebrows like waiting for the most exciting part of a story. "...please?"
He smiled proudly. "See? It wasn't that hard, was it? You look better being nice." he, then, started to examine the tree.
I looked at George who have been staring intensely at Neteyam ever since he joined our walk.
Neteyam, like an expert climber as he actually is, held the branch above him and pulled himself up. It's like the tree was actually made for someone like him to climb due to the big gaps of its branches, which is a fact. I saw how he whined in pain due to the wound he has on his chest. But he did not stop. It just took him three branches to climb before he finally found leaves.
I was shocked when, instead of taking few leaves, he split the branch out of the trunk than wave it to me, joyfully. I was about to tell him to just take some but he was back at focusing with his way down. In a swift second, he's beside me again.
"That was fun." he greeted.
"Why did you take the whole branch? I just need some." I scolded because it will be too heavy for me carry.
"Oh" he looked at it and snapped small branch from it but didn't present it to me. He just keep it with himself.
"Give it to me."
Suddenly, he smirked again and my world shattered once more. "You know, I made some realizations up there."
I clicked my tounge. "Just state your goddamn cost."
He laughed. "Okay, chill. How about we make a condition. Every time i've got to help you, you will answer my question. Any question."
I looked at him boredly. "You're really annoying. I want to fucking crush you."
He laughed again. "Trust me, I know."
"What's the question?"
He act as if thinking, putting the back of his hand under his chin. "How old are you?"
I didn't waste any second thinking whether to answer his lame question. "Eighteen, now give me the leaves."
"You're eighteen?" he asked in amusement as he give me the leaves and throwing the rest of the big branch on the ground. "That's cool, I'm nineteen."
It's not like I even care.
I started walking again as I store it in my bag, leaving him behind knowing that he'll follow me once more.
