I’m still unhappy about the falling out between O’Brien and Thomas because I think, even though she had a kind of bad influence on him, she was his friend and of great help to him in the beginning of the series. 

Look at the black-market-scene and tell me that she doesn’t display genuine sympathy. But maybe her heart was too small to care for more than one person at the same time, and so when Alfred came Thomas had to go. Nevertheless it was cruel to let Thomas down.
