Elva had been getting dinner ready when Elizabeth said she had to run out to pick something up. As Elva checked on the food in the oven, she just called out over her shoulder to her twin saying that she better not take too long or else she'd have dinner without her. Since finding each other a couple of years back, these dinners were a way for them to check in with each other and see how they were doing.
So as she began to plate the food and the doorbell rang, she laughed as she ran towards the door. ❝ Don't tell me you forgot your keys! ❞ The smile fell when a man was what standing before her and not her sister. She hadn't said someone would be coming over, they wouldn't have planned dinner tonight if she had other plans, right? She never pried into Elizabeth's life, knowing that her work kept her traveling all the time and sometimes it was dangerous. And Elizabeth never pried in hers, always letting Elva share what she wanted and not anymore. They were letting each other in slowly but found that there was also no secrets between them. The only men she knew about in her sisters life were AJ and Charlie, and this man was neither.
He surely had to have been at the wrong house. ❝ I'm sorry, can I help you? ❞

The words the man said took her by surprise. He obviously knew her sister. Looks like her sister did have a secret after all. ❝ I could ask you the same question. Would you like to leave a message? She's not here at the moment. ❞ One thing that the two shared was a sense of curiosity, something that Elva had learned had come from their father, through stories Elizabeth told her anyway, she herself had never met the man before he had died.
It was that same curiosity that had opening the door wider and changing her demeanor. ❝ Actually, she just ran out for a second. Dinner is ready, why don't you com in and wait for her? ❞ She held her hand out to shake his. ❝ I'm Elva. Her sister. Twin sister to be exact, and yes we're not identical but in the right lighting we are.❞ She smirked knowing the tricks they've playing on Charlie before. ❝ You are? ❞
Rafe had left his cellphone at Elizabeth's from the night before and hadn't realised it when he hadn't heard from her about a trip to Madagascar, he had recently learnt that although both he and Nathan Drake had found Libertalia the Pirate Colony, that it had not be reported. While the gold was no longer an option there, there were artifacts that they could get a hold of.
Knocking on her door, he waited patiently until the door opened. "Evening beautiful, I think I left my- you're not Elizabeth. You," He stood puzzled, Elizabeth had never told him she had a sister. "Who are you?"
"Hmm," Elva sighed. "Nope, sorry. She left in the middle of our cooking to go pick something up but didn't tell me what or where. But I'm sure she won't be long."
While Elva was not dumb and could tell that just as Elizabeth had not told her about a man named Rafe in her life, he knew not of her existence either. "Please." she stood to the side, opening the door wider. "It seems you were looking for something, don't let me stop you. This is her place after all, if I kept someone she trusted enough in her space from coming, I'd never hear the end of it."
Closing the door after him, she began to head off to the kitchen. "Please do consider staying. I'd like to get to know some of my sisters' friends better. You must also work with Charlie then, right?"
Rafe felt uncomfortable, he'd called someone not Elizabeth beautiful, regardless of her being attractive or not he can almost her the smartass remark at his words. "Well do you know when she'll be back?" He really did need his cell, not just as a way to reach her, but to contact Sage and Ashley, have them get things ready.
"Oh, dinner-" He started taking her hand to shake when she said she was Elva, Elizabeth's sister and not just a sister, but a twin sister. "Well its great to finally meet you Elva," He didn't want to tell her that Elizabeth had never mentioned her before. "Rafe, Rafe Adler. I work with your sister from time to time. I'd be happy to come in, if you're okay with that."
There was one thing that the twins shared in common, curiosity. And right now Elva's curiosity was at its highest, a smirk on her face as she watched him navigate his way. Obviously he had been over enough times to find his way around.
"Thanks! It's a new recipe, something our dad liked apparently. Hægeldaður lambaskanki með ost-." Unlike her sister who had spent some of her life with their father, Elva was still new to learning their fathers language. Her tongue stumbled and was sharp around syllables that didn't need it, languages were not her strong suit, she gave up and simply said. " Its lamb and cheese and potatoes."
"No, please stay!" She exclaimed not ready to let this man go without knowing what he meant to her sister. "We made a lot and I'm sure she'll love to know someone would enjoy our creation. Unless you're vegetarian. Come on," she said as she led him over to the dining room table. "Have a seat. I haven't had Charlie or her mention you before. Do you guys work together often?"

“Of course, but I also don’t get to spend a lot of time with the people she knows. I’m not sure if you know this but we didn’t grow up together.” Elva was not a person to keep secrets, unlike her twin, she was an open book. She continued to talk as she got another place setting out for the man, knowing now where everything was in her sisters house. “ Our parents had a bright idea of splitting us up, a la Parent Trap, when we were born. Our dad took her. Our mom took me. Then when I was about a year old, ended up in foster care in Ireland. I’m not sure how but I just know ween I was six I was adopted by a very nice family and the rest is history. When I got curious I went looking and found that she and Charlie and had already known but didn’t want to approach unless it was something I wanted. And here we are.”
She smiled at him, huh, they are were all dating each other but he didn’t mention her sister. “Ah. So you’re all dating? I hope you don’t mind, but you know she already.” Elva tries to sound as casual as she could. “Do you know if she’s dating someone. She’s been a bit different lately.”
At mention of their hunts she froze. “The scion, yes. Didn’t mention it was more than the three of them. But the book of the dead? Is that what she did recently?” Maybe her coming back different wasn’t a result of her dating someone. There were times she hated that Elizabeth kept secrets. This was one of them.
He'd not heard of it before, and when Elva explained what was in it, he felt his stomach rumble. Making sure he ate regularly was not something Rafe was good at, eating only when he remembered or hunger actually hit.
"I'd love to, but surely you want to spend time with Elizabeth?" He was trying his hardest to get out of being there. But it became quickly apparent he had no choice in the matter. "Okay, yeah. I'll stay. Not vegetarian, so no problem there." He followed her to the table and sat down.
"I work with her, Charlie and AJ." A pause as he thought about. " Well, we've all worked together enough that Charlie is dsting Sage, who works for and with me, and AJ is dating Ashley, another that works with me. "Has Elizabeth ever told you about some of the hunts we've been on? Like for the Scion, or book of the dead?"
Elva could tell that a lot was going through the man's head. There was a lot going through her's as well. As much as she knew that they didn't owe each other much, just barely trying to build some sort of a sisterly bond a dinner a month, when they could, she also didn't think that she'd keep things from her. Elva shrugged. "I don't remember her much, don't consider her my mom. Aoife, the woman and her husband Theo, they're my parents in every sense of the world. Made sure I had everything I needed, wanted." Then she frowned knowing that her twin hadn't.
"Oh," Elva tried to feign surprise. She had surmised so when he had shown up looking for his phone. Listening to him talk about everyone, Elva realized that the family Elizabeth had always been looking for was the one she had. She just hadn't realized it. "So you all just got close while working together. I can see how that happens, working and being together all the time can bound to do that. I would love to meet everyone else some time."
"Huh," She smiled, liked that the man was being honest as much as he could. "Yeah, a family get together sounds nice." The sound of a car pulling up into the driveway made her sit up. "If I ask you to see if everyone is willing to come over next month, would you be able to get them here? It's our birthday and I want her friends here. But you know how she is." Reaching over she placed her hand on Rafe's. "She tends to push those she cares the most away. Not because she doesn't want them there but because she's scared of them leaving. She had a harder time than me growing up." That's all she could say before the front door opened and she had hoped he understood what she meant by that.
"I found it!" Elizabeth's voice rang out as she made her way from the front door over to the kitchen. "Brennivín, it's the first drink I had when I turned 20, the legal age there is only 20. I hop-" She stopped midsentence as she saw her twin and Rafe sitting at the dinning room table. The smile on her face didn't drop but strained a bit. Unsure of what to make of this.
"Rafe." Elizabeth said softly, not sure what to say.
"Isn't this great, Lizzie." Elva said as she got up and around, putting her arm around her and leading her to the table. "Rafe was just telling me about your hunt for the Scion. You guys never mentioned you had teamed up. Come," She said as she took the bottle from her sister and began to pour them all some to go with their dinner. "You guys can tell me more stories over dinner."
That was something Rafe didn't know, but how could he when he didn't even know anything about Elva? After all, he had told Elizabeth, gave her something that she could if she ever desired to hold against him, and yet she hadn't told him about Elva. A frown pinched at his brow, but he was quick to hide it. He started to question them but squashed the thought immediately. "No, I don't believe she ever told me that. Must have been hard on you. Do you know what happened to your mother?"
"I, uh." Decisions, decisions. He shouldn't lie to Elizabeth's sister. "Yeah, me. Kind of. Guess I still have a lot to learn about your twin. But yeah, not sure how it happened, Sage and Charlie hit off immediately, Ashley and AJ, well, we thought they were just a pair of nerds nerding over the same things. Turns out they were nerding out over each other." A laugh that didn't quite reach his eyes.
"Yeah. That was our latest one. We've taken some time off as it ended up being a far bigger hunt than expected." Though conflicted right now, Rafe wasn't going to just drop Elizabeth's death on Elva. "We learned a lot of strange things about Ancient Egypt, but that's a story for a more macabre setting, not a nice little family get-together."
