Persona 4 AU where Adachi is kidnapped instead of Nanako
Adachi gets kidnapped instead of Nanako. And you go through the whole thing you went through with the rest of your team and Adachi joins the group.
Now you have an actual detective (sloppy at his job though he may be) working close on the case to give even more insight, and he has a pretty strong Persona as well. But that’s also how you find out about his “wonderful” actual personality and it’s a real shock at first, but deep down past all that he is still a good guy and you and your gang are close with him, though it took some time.
While Adachi does feel a certain type of way about women, he seems to make an exception for Chie, Yukiko, Rise, and Naoto.
Chie’s a strong fighter and outspoken. She certainly made sure to call Adachi out on his opinions and had no qualms about “negative reinforcement” when he opened his mouth.
Yukiko is poised and polite, stern but also kind. She carries herself and such a dignified manner even Adachi couldn’t find a bad thing to say about her.
Rise’s bubbly personality did grate on his nerves for a time with her being a teen idol and all, but eventually he saw it just for her being a kid happy to have found a place where she belonged and friends she’d go to the ends of the earth to protect.
Naoto reminded him of himself when he was younger, focused, determined, studious and a bit cold sometimes trivializing her brilliance would mean trivializing himself.
He even made exceptions for the boys too. Yosuke is always good for a laugh and a free cabage or two from Junes. Though he is a bit of smart ass.
He’d seen many men like Kanji at the police academy, strong and tough with a notably softer side. That’s what makes a great crime fighter, after all.
Teddie was strange, over the top and perverted, but would anyone be in their right mind after spending their whole life in the tv world? He could cut him some slack for that, right?
And you, you were silent and strong type of leader. He certainly had worse people to take orders from, and you didn’t run him ragged like your uncle so he was content to let you take the lead role.
He’s like the older slob brother of group for all his crap. And though he’d never admit it, he can’t bare the thought of anything happening to you “damn nosy brats”. And if he ever did, he’d say it’s because he wouldn’t want to deal with filing the paper work, and not because you kids are like family he never knew he needed.
So now all of you are still hunting clues, tracing evidence, and fighting in the TV world. People around Inaba think it’s strange for a grown man to be hanging with these kids, but he always replies that he’s keeping you guys out of trouble and that’s enough of answer, even for Dojima amazingly.
The case goes cold for the police and the investigation team but you all never stop looking. Meanwhile the fog is getting thicker, everyone is feeling under the weather constantly. Soon investigating is the least of your worries when all of you are bed written for days at a time. Sometimes it gets so bad one or more of your gang is in the hospital. Everyone esle who’s able always visits, and your slob adoptive nii-san will always bring his “world famous” cabbage stew (which tastes pretty good considering who’s cooking).
He’ll tell an inappropiate joke, then blame your constant sickness on all that junk food you brats scarf down everyday (even though he eats twice as much junk as any of you on any given day). You see the faint trace of doubt in his eye and you know he’s lying to himself but you just don’t realize the extent.
He goes home through the fog, feeling perfectly fine, and he sinks to the ground right behind his front door, holding his head in his hands, trying not to cry trying not puke, trying not to run screaming into the tv world hoping something there would put him out of his misery.
He was just supposed to keep you brats off his trail, get rid of you. Sure it was more hands on than he would have liked, but it was effective. You accepted him into the fold and he could make sure you wouldn’t affect his game anymore. But that’s just it, after spending time with you brats he didn’t need his game anymore. There was a point where he’d keep up the kidnappings just to spend more time with the investigation team and after a while he didn’t even need that anymore.
You kids infected him with that ridiculous nonsense you call “friendship” and he no longer needed a cruel game to occupy the loneliness he felt. He thought he could slink away. The murders would be left unsolved forever but he’d always have you all. It would all be alright, right? But the damage had been done, and the fog was coming ready to swallow up this world, unless…
“If I never went to that bitch’s hotel room, if I never watched that freaky channel, If I met you dumb kids just a little sooner…”
All regrets he has as he pushes his gun to his temple. A signed confession sits on the table in front of him. It’ll serve as a decent enough suicide note. He sent out personal apology letters to you and the investigation team. He didn’t want you guys getting caught up in the actual investigation after his death and you risk you all becoming named as accomplices. Sure you’re all stupid enough to get fooled by him but that isn’t worth going to jail over or being labeled murders and having your lives ruined.
“You idiots have such bright futures, y'know!” he mumbles to himself.
He even sent one to Dojima apologizing for being such a lousy partner and subordinate. To think, a few months ago he would have never gone through all this trouble for anyone but himself.
“You brats really did a number on me.” he says, tightening his finger on the trigger.
“Maybe in the next life you kids will get to me before I screw up my life again.” he wishes. He prays.
He pulls the trigger tighter, hears the bang, and feels the world go dark.
You all are standing over him looking worse for wear after a fierce battle with Ameno-Sagiri, but still in one piece all in all. He can only vaguely hear the echos of the horrible things he said to you while possessed. He’s weak and hurting deeply.
He mentions through labored breaths, that he’s happy to that you all are feeling better. He asks to be left here to die, to atone for his sins and says another apology, even though you all got his letters. You have to get him out here fast.
You and your gang proceed to lift him to try and carry him out of the tv world. He protests, says he should be left to die. You all don’t care. He mentions his original intention to join your group was so he could kill all of you. You all don’t listen.
Because whether or or not his intentions at the start were genuine, he still made very real bonds with you all.
hunger It’s not your body that’s hungry, Nowhere Man. That emptiness isn’t so easily filled.
I was invited to do some guest art for the Pixel Drip Persona Tournament event, and was lucky enough to snag the spot for my favorite S.Link in the P4 games. :’) It’s actually been years since I last drew him. It was a bit of a struggle to make him wretched enough.

I translated another comic from a Persona 4 comic anthology. The title is ‘Flea Market at Junes’ and it was created by Touka Ouno. It’s a short story about Nanako and Adachi at Junes.

Persona 4 AU where everything is the same except Adachi is a tiny, pocket-sized man. Bonus points if you can figure out how he can do the murders at such a tiny size.

I would assume with Adachi’s previous suicide attempt and the Inaba police force being less then optimal that him getting a gun from someone would be more then likely. Thankfully Dojima is there to save the day!
