It's not a literal parallel, just a small similarity, where one of them was the favorite and the other had to go out of his way for an ounce of validation.
Each one took their own path, they got hurt and turned their backs on each other, but deep down they still love each other, because between that feeling and the pain there is no distance.
(Don't think I'm comparing Toph's upbringing to Yakone's, she didn't want weapons of revenge, in my head Toph didn't know how to regulate the competition between her daughters and she let it become a nest of toxicity and aggressiveness).
