Needed to put together another post about the uncooked dough that is Leo
What can go wrong: A list of gem defects
This post is simply a very long Theory on the different types of defects that a gem can have. Warning: VERY LONG POST. On with the show!
Under/overcooking.
This defect causes notable differences in stature. Undercooking causes longer and thinner stature that normal, whereas overcooking causes shorter and stockier stature. This defect varies in intensity, but if too intense the gem may have issues holding its form together.
Unusual/harmful Impurities
Most gems have some impurities in the form of trace minerals, that cause harmless individual variation in appearance. Some of them, however, can be actively harmful to a gems' appearance or purposes. Common effects include:
Unusual coloration
Specks in gemstone
Lack of or Unintended abilities
Unusual gemstone shape/cut
This occurs when a gemstone forms in a shape not intended for the gem (i.e. amythest with a Jasper Cut). Its effects include:
Coloration issues (the example gem may have an orange tint and/or stripes)
Undesirable or broken features
Unusual weapon
Severe Essence imbalance
Two forms of this defect exist. The effects the first originate from an unbalanced or odd mix of essence. The effects of this form can range from minor coloration issues to the entirely wrong gem emerging from the injection site. This is the less problematic form, in that it doesnโt nessecarily damage the gem and can result in new discoveries.
The other form occurs when the essence is not mixed properly or at all, resulting in a bicolored gem. This form is far, far more volatile than the first. Dangerous features include:
Multiple personalities
Difficulty holding form
Extra or missing limbs
Higher vulnerability of major impurities
Injector errors
This is umbrella term for issues with the injection process. They include:
Inert gemstone: These gemstones won't form a gem and canโt be used as a power source.
Underdrilling: The injector does not drill deep enough for all limbs to form. In some gems, this can be resolved by poofing and allowing to reform naturally, but this doesnโt work on gems not designed for combat.
Overheating: The injector gives too much initial heat to the incubation process, causing a mishappen or cracked/broken gemstone. These gems are almost never able to form.
Undernutrition: The earth around the injection site is lacking or devoid of minerals and nutrients. This results in anything from a pale gem, low energy and fatigue, to an inert gemstone.
Thank you very much for reading!!!
