What is Undershade?
hi! I’m really happy that you asked that, because I figure most people won’t want to go digging for that very first post i made about it.
So Undershade is an AU of mine where, instead of monsters being trapped underground, they’re trapped in this world-between-worlds sort of place. This place is called the Shade! Like in their canon counterpart, monsters were sealed away, but in Undershade the humans wanted a more permanent solution to their problem.
See, the thing about the Shade is that as time went on, the magic that held it together began to lose substance, destabilizing the world (and humans knew this would happen). Monster magic helped keep the Shade stable enough to live in, but not enough to completely reverse the destabilization. This makes the Shade a dangerous place to live in, as weak monsters run the risk of destabilizing themselves if they’re caught in the wrong place
In Undershade, human souls have the power to make the Shade more real, more solid, less glitchy or floaty or melty, and it’s for this reason that monsters are desperate to capture humans!
Now, as for how humans get to the Shade, it’s merely the act of getting their soul knocked loose and being lucky enough to pass through the veil that separates the worlds. Once in the Shade, humans are one solid color– the color of their soul!

Seriously though, thank you so much! I believe that I’ll be able to start drawing the comic within a week or so? depends on when my ugee comes in. But in the meantime I’m gonna try to post at least once a day!!!
In Undershade, how do the color schemes/outfits work? Are the outfits different (Ex: Dancetale, Outertale)? Are color schemes based on the the soul color during their fight (Ex: Undyne=Green) or are they a color relating to the character (Sans=Shade of Blue, Papyrus=Orange)?
heh, honestly their outfits are just slight redesigns, not straying terribly far from their canon counterparts other than me adding some flair for personal asthetics. It’s only Frisk that’s super different, what with how humans appear in the Shade an’ all.
Originally I had planned on having a unified color scheme for everyone, which really would have been varying shades of purples, blues, and greys, but ultimately decided that it wouldn’t make any sense at all, as the only big change here is in the setting. There’s no real reason to stray too far from canon designs for this AU, as this is more story driven than design driven, unlike some of the more popular AUs out there ;;
But everyone’s color scheme is fairly close to how it is in UT :)

how does the "asriel crosses the barrier with chara's soul" thing happen in undershade?
So I was gonna do the usual doodle that goes along with my responses, but I’m too tired now aha. But ahhh in regards to chara and asriel, I’m wanting to keep things a bit of a secret :3c it’s nothing too big, but I gotta have some mystery for the comic, right?

uh oh it's looking like someone else has made an AU called Undershade now Part of me is wondering if I should say something or let it lie, because all they share is a name but... Yknow, it's one of those things where you wanna hear the name and know which AU it is without thinking "is it THIS Undershade or THIS Undershade?"
