“do you believe in fate?”
your sudden question takes wonwoo by surprise, and he lowers his phone to look over at you. you’d been reading before, curled against his side, but at some point you must’ve put the book down — because now you’re gazing at him with an unexpected question and earnest eyes.
he takes a moment. “fate? like, everything happens for a reason, that kind of thing?”
you consider, tilting your head to the side. “maybe. but i mean more like pre-destiny, you know?” a pause. “like you and me, maybe?” you say, softer, more unsure. “do you think we were always meant to be?”
a small smile lifts wonwoo’s lips, and he drapes a loose arm over you. “what brought this on?” he asks curiously. he loves the way your mind works, he thinks, and he wants to know all of you. everything you’re willing to show him.
you shrug, glancing away and back. “just thinking.”
“well,” he continues, after a moment — his eyes drifting off somewhere past you, as he thinks. “i’d like to think we chose each other. on purpose. maybe fate plays into that,” he adds, “but either way; i love you on purpose.”
that makes you smile, a soft, sentimental smile. “i like that,” you say, almost shy in your delight. “on purpose.”
then you clap your hands gently over his cheeks, giggling as you do it: “i love you on purpose, jeon wonwoo!”
