I really don’t understand what the move was behind making another watchmen adaptation (well besides the obvious). Watchmen 2019 failed and to my knowledge there wasn’t an announcement for a comic series (maybe yet to be announced). I’ve known about the movie since July of last year (the potential release motivated me to make a watchmen blog) when DC announced it along with the Crisis movies. I guess only time will tell?
Not to mention DC’s been dead silent on the movie up until two weeks ago. Doesn’t give me much hope
I just feel like if it were for money they would’ve hyped it long before now, y’know? Maybe the whole upheaval of the DC cinematic universe and all that drama lit a fire under their asses, so it’s being plopped out. Idk. Perhaps I’m just a pessimist
I’m just glad I was wrong about it being a Doomsday Clock adaptation
What I’m not looking forward to is Rorschach’s voice. His voice was always described as monotone; nothing more, although the broken speech bubbles may have implied raspiness.
When Jackie Earle Haley played him in 2009 he opted to give him a gravely voice. This was most likely to ride the coattails of Christian Bale’s Batman voice, and in all likelihood Haley’s normal voice was just too sweet and soft for the character (seriously, listen to interviews with him). Of course, I love Haley, and I love his version of Rorschach, regardless of Snyder’s directing.
However the VA for the 2024 movie seems to just be copy-catting Haley for recognizably. Which is annoying to me, just because “gravely” was never what his voice “sounded” like to me in the book!
The closest was the Watchman Motion Comic’s narration. The narrator for that actually did an excellent job capturing the slow, monotone, emotionless tilt I always imagined in my head
He looks so different in the trailer but I can’t really put my finger on it?
I also have a framed picture of my psycho ex in my basement
Once part 2 of the new watchmen movie releases we will have 4 separate versions of Rorschach getting Ligma’d
I want to formally apologize to Alan Moore right now because if/when DC drops more Watchmen merch I’m snatching it all up
Me, stupid: I’m going to avoid trailers of the new Watchmen movie so I don’t get spoiled (I have read it numerous times since I was 15)

So many thoughts so many feelings. Rorschach sounds so strange still and not my favorite. However now I headcanon Walter trying to replicate the Comedian’s voice when he’s acting as Rorschach because they sound so damn similar, haha
