<prev tags this is abt spencer reid from criminal minds but i see this take EVERYWHERE in EVERY fandom and i just. i hate it so real sorry to hijack your post but i also see a separate but similar problem of people who do (claim to) like the character scrubbing them of all their “”ugly“” traits and leaving only the likeable and pitiable behin like. i think you might not like that character actually? that's a whole other guy. im thinking abt zuko from atla right now but reid too tbh anyway i feel like both come from this feeling of a character not being the Right Kind of traumatised (always good and always pitiable) it's just the response that's different. whether they're like “that character is BAD and EVIL” or “it's okay i fixed them ❤️” (theyre unrecognizable now) SORRY again for the hijack. i have so many feelings on this and i need to make it everyone else's problem
