Day 3: Impulsive

Day 3: Impulsive

Who Shrunk Daniel Funk? by Lin Oliver

When I saw that today's prompt was "Impulsive", Pablo Funk was the first character that came to mind!

The series of four books, Who Shrunk Daniel Funk?, is a really fun G/T series! I would recommend it to anyone who likes size-shifters and heartwarming G/T! It's a children's book series, so it's a pretty gentle story, but it is SO well written!! It's a hilarious series!! I really love that this story embraces the G/T elements instead of just using them as a joke or a gimmick!

Spoilers for the Who Shrunk Daniel Funk? series below

This is one of my favourite book series (along with all of my other favourite books)!! I found it when I was young, and I felt drawn to it! It feels like it shaped my sense of humour! Looking back, I don't think this was the first G/T story that I loved, but it REALLY contributed to my love of G/T stuff!!

The G/T elements are inseparable from the main story, and the author writes about G/T stuff in a fairly well-thought-out way! I really loved that Daniel's size-shifting powers have some rules to them!! I always love when magic has its own rules and quirks in a story! The rules of magic don't have to make sense or be logical, but it adds to the world-building!

The characters are vibrant and full of energy! Although Daniel's whole family has quirky personalities, there are moments in this series that just feel so REAL and it is so good! I love that this story is really character driven! The characters take initiative, and sometimes they make mistakes, but they always need to learn from their mistakes!

The book is written in 1st person POV, and I can't imagine it any other way! The author writes Daniel's voice in such a fun and genuine way. Daniel is clever and sarcastic, but he is a kind person at heart. Pablo is the definition of impulsive, and he's a very creative and bold guy! I love the way that Daniel grows as a person (pun intended) during the series!

This story made G/T look so fun and inviting!! It's not perfect, but it enthusiastically embraces the G/T parts of it and it is a very comforting story to me!!
