The Evermore Grimoire: Potions
Nightlock is a potion that can lock anyone within their own worst nightmare. Due to its harmful nature and the deadly consequences it bestows on anyone who ingests it, makes it a forbidden potion within the magical world. No one knows the ingredients to make Nightlock but some believed it included slaughtering magical creatures for certain magical elements and body parts which was also a forbidden witchcraft practice. The reason for this lies with a family of witches who used Nightlock on their own kind for decades in order to expel those who were not of pureblood status. They perfected the potion so much that no antidote or spell could break the potency of Nightlock. Thus leaving their victims stuck within their own mind suffering their worst nightmares over and over until it eventually killed them. Eventually the family's heinous crimes caught up with them when they kidnapped a powerful witch with the power of telepathy who was able to unlock herself from the poison of the potion. The family were stripped of their magic and records of their existence were destroyed. It's believed that a council of elder witches then forced them to ingest Nightlock reliving every nightmare of their victims as punishment until it killed them.
