cutie ✧ luda

1.2k words, luda, fluff, my first request, from @lurrito: WJSN Luda scenario where she gets jealous that her female best friend that she secretly loves spends a lot of time with other wjsn members

this was unlike luda. in fact, it was totally out of character for her. when you had stepped into the dorm, she had engulfed you in her arms and squealed with excitement, she had called to the rest of the girls, she’s here!

now, as you sat in front of xuan yi and beside juyeon, laughing with them and listening to stories about their performances (things you had missed out on, since you’d been out of town for such a long time), luda didn’t seem so happy.

“it was embarrassing, i guess,” xuan yi blushes, giggling as she held a hand over her mouth.

juyeon lowers her voice to a hushed whisper, “yeah, well, at least you didn’t trip over on stage like jinsook did-”

“unnie, i heard that…!”

“i don’t think anyone noticed it, though,” you add, comforting xuan yi, “and i haven’t stopped listening to the song since you released it.”

juyeon pushes your shoulder affectionately, “aw, you’re too sweet,” she jokes.

“really! and the music video was amazing, too,” you praise them. “and your stylists must be so clever. you all look so good.”

dawon smirks from beside juyeon, “especially me, of course.”

while they continue to talk, you can’t help but take a glance over at luda, fitted between jiyeon and yeonjung on the other couch across the room. she fidgets with her own slim fingers and looks up occasionally at another girl to reply to a question.

when she lifts her head (seldom, for some unknown reason) and her eyes connect with yours, it’s almost instantaneously that she turns her head away. of course it’s strange - you had arrived from being out of korea for a while and she was your best friend, so why would she act so distant from you? had you done something wrong? maybe she just wasn’t in a good mood today, or…

dayoung’s chirpy voice pulls you out of your thoughts. she appears from the kitchen with mei qi following close behind her, calling, “dinner’s ready, everyone!”

the others jump up at her announcement, and you do too, but you linger a little, waiting for luda. you throw an arm around her shoulder casually, smiling at her. it’s odd how she reflects your expression for a brief moment, before returning her gaze somewhere else. you’re almost shocked, but you don’t mention it.

during your meal, you’re seated next to luda (as insisted by sojung.) you seem to converse more then - she asks you about your trip out of korea, tells you how her promotions have been, and passes you the salt when you need it.

if it’s any consolation, you make a mental note of how nice luda looks. she’s only in sweats, and it wasn’t any special occasion for her to dress up, but somehow the natural look suited her so well.

still, you wonder what was on her mind just a few moments ago. you decide it’d be better to wait until you were alone to ask her.

so, instinctively, you jump eagerly at the chance to spend time individually with her. when she offers to wash up after dinner, you volunteer alongside her.

it’s not awkward with luda - it never has been, now that you think about it. and you’d hope so, anyways, what with being so close since forever ago. so there you are, stood beside luda with a towel in your hands while she washes and you dry, and–

“luda!! in my hair, really?”

you scrunch up your face, faking exasperation as you try to locate the soapy bubbles she had blown at you from the sink. her giggles fill the empty air around you - which, worth mentioning, is one of the cutest sounds you’ve ever heard.

when the laughter dies down, you decide to seize the chance. “um, luda?”

“yeah?”

you swallow thickly. your heart starts to race, but you open your mouth before you regret it. “uh, earlier… i just… was everything okay?”

she doesn’t look up from her last plate, reaching into the sink to unplug the drain. drying her hands, she mutters, “why are you asking?”

“well, i…” words crowd your mind, and you struggle to find the right ones to answer her. “i don’t know, you just seemed different. or something. i don’t know.”

unintentionally, she pouts her bottom lip as she looks at you. her eyes are dark, and you watch how her cheeks paint themselves pink.

“i… it’s just that… i was jealous, i guess.”

huh?

“huh?”

before she answers, you shake your head, “wait, what are you jealous of?”

she casts her eyes downwards, and she shrugs, “just, because… well, you just got back, and i wanted to spend time with you. but, you were with xuan yi unnie and juyeon, so… i don’t know. it’s just stupid.”

you feel a lot of things at once. most prominently, guilt.

“luda, i’m sor–”

“there’s also… something else,” she says, voice barely above a whisper.

you pause, and you lick your lips that have become parched. you don’t even know what to expect.

she hesitates as well, eyes still not meeting yours. “i, um… well, i kind of… i like you.”

thoughts gather in your mind again like a storm cloud. your mouth is dry, and when you look at luda you feel a million different emotions in your chest.

“you don’t have to say anything,” she mumbles, clearly disheartened, “but i wanted to tell you before you left again. i know you don’t feel the same way, s-so it’s fine, like, you don’t have to like me too, but i’ve been thinking about you for a long time - well, that sounds kind of weird - you know what i mean, so, yeah, and please don’t tell xuan yi unnie that i was jealous of her, and not juyeon either, that would be so embarrassing…”

typical of luda, to make something so serious so comical in the span of a few moments.

amongst her flurry of urgent and nervous words, you see the utter adorableness that radiates from her - her hands framing her flushed face and biting her lip at the stutters she makes.

“luda, don’t worry.”

“no, but really though,”

“luda,” you say, reaching out for her right hand. you flash a consoling smile, “i really don’t mind.”

she lets out a bated breath, and she’s not quite relieved yet, but just glad that you didn’t end your friendship with her right then and there.

“you don’t?”

“no,” you shake your head, “and, i mean… i’ve always thought you were pretty cute.”

she doesn’t stop herself from grinning widely, or from pulling you close to her and enveloping you in a tight hug. when your face is close to her neck and her lips are beside your ear, she whispers, “i’m not cute.”

you scoff, rolling your eyes playfully. “yeah, whatever you say, cutie.”

"are you two done yet or what?” cheng xiao’s voice comes from the living room.

luda raises her eyebrows in panic, “o-oh, yeah, we’re coming!”

flustered and shy, the two of you quickly put things away and scurry out to the living room.

dayoung snorts, watching you both. “geez, guys… how long does it take to wash dishes?”

you and luda exchange knowing glances.
